Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

Discuss.

New threads should be made like this.

I think there could be some room to do something fun with the top image, like maybe a collage of cows from both sides of the aisle or art of them battling?
Or maybe something really gay

Blink once if this is all part and parcel and blink twice if this is because retards kept @'ing Null
@Useful_Mistake and I had been talking about the best execution for this during the week and mentioned it in the thread (which now I can see was a mistake between the threads being colossal and people incapable or unwilling to read).

There's always been a plan to have a new thread and there isn't some concerted effort to stifle discussion here. It's a little insulting that some believe this to be the case given how much Thunderdome staff have participated in the discussion in that thread.

Like I mentioned, I believe the US Politics General will be reopened by next week, once the Election thread has run its full course.

Better idea than what I thought, especially with Trump already announcing his staff. Just let the last embers of the election itself die out so the thread can be more about that and the potential political shifts about to occur instead of having so much of it taken up by more election fallout.

I didn't really think it was stifling discussion per se, though I might joke about that.

I appreciate that you guys consider the thread important and are thinking about it seriously. It just came off as overly trying to "structure" the discussion instead of letting it flow organically.

I get moving the discussion to Happenings the night of, but I was just figuring after that we'd get back to the smaller, more slow moving thread with nuanced discussion by a fairly regular group.

Not that I want it insular, anybody can come in. It's just the sheer volume of the Happenings thread, even after the election, is tough to keep up with. I like to read all the posts, and I can keep up with 20 pages a day. 100+? I'm just blowing through highlights and missing a lot of good discussion. But I can't spend all day on the Farms reading one thread!

Thanks for clarifying though, and I hope you put up a new thread or reopen the old soon.

PS: I thought the new banner ad with Trump was perfect.

Why does the text size in my gay little article change randomly, around the line containing 'herculean', despite it all being the same size in the preview? Nothing but the image subtitle is sized anything but 15 points in the editor, too.

Is it some A&H formatting thing if the article is too long? Probably not.

Because you scraped an article and spent zero seconds looking it over. If you click on "toggle BB code" you'll see that you ended up resizing the text (twice).

I spent quite a long time looking it over, actually. As I mentioned in my post, the first resize was intentional, to show that the text is only a caption of the image, and was not that way in the original article. I just couldn't work out why it was changing my font size a second time and not showing up in the standard editor.

I don't usually look in the BB code for my posts and I will make sure to do this in the future.

Thank you.

The way the thread prefix drop-down menu is formatted right now kind of irks me.
thread prefix old.png

Right now, this is how it looks. The flag icons take up an entire row to themselves, creating a bunch of negative space and shoving all the other prefixes out of immediate sight. (Also, everyone is directly below India... imagine the smell.) The off-topic/A&N prefixes have a similar problem, where two prefixes could comfortably fit in the space currently occupied by just one.

I am proposing something like this instead. Eight flag icons to a row (added Canada to make it fit better), two A&N prefixes to a row, CatParty gets his own row. Looks cleaner, allows for every option to be immediately visible, and if you wanted to expand the amount of flags available now that there's room to do so, doing so would be trivial:

Is it possible to do something like this?

> *fat autistic janny guy in the back of the pressroom
> drooling over the press badge.mp4
> "mr. president, what are you going to do about the cheese situation?"

This is a potential future now.
