I'm surprised him shitting himself on camera was mentioned but nobody's actually linked it yet.

Keep in mind he doesn't instantly decide to stop what he's doing, instead he continues playing for several minutes. Peak humor
Why is Dan laughing?

That’s fucking awkward dude lol

Even between 2 best friends (get it)

Surprised he didn’t walk out of the room

Why did they call themselves the Grumps anyway? They are never grumpy.

They always sound stoned.

I can only assume he thought it would be “funny” and “good for views”.

I really enjoyed GG when it was just Arin and Jon, they definitely meshed much better and both always seemed engaged in what they were playing.

One of my favorite moments was when Jon was spraying a canister of compressed air, and it actually made Arin so sick he ran out of the room followed about 30 seconds after of Jon doing the same. That makes for a much more funny bit than, say, having to listen to them both gag and/or possibly vomit on camera for 10 minutes, which if something similar happened in a more recent episode the latter would most likely be the case.

Honestly even if GameGrumps went down Arin isn't going to be without work or something to do with his time;

he might be an idiot but he's an idiot with a fingers in a lot of different pies.

While he's an ass there's always the slight pang of jealously you honestly can't deny; getting to dick around with friends, play video games and not have to work for any of it.

You’d think at the very least he’d ask Barry or Kevin or whomever to edit it out. I actually feel like he’s way more uncomfortable with Arin’s antics than he lets on.

YouTube fame is meningitis of the soul.

No seriously I can't imagine a worse fate than being a celebrity or public figure in any capacity, where you get harassed every day by strangers and could lose your job from an angry mob by just blinking in a racist way.

Arin may not be on DSP-level of bad, but he sure got the "ack ack ack" down. Maybe it's a common symptom of being a shit-tier let's player.

I did used to enjoy Arin's stuff. (Barring the Sequelitis videos which I always felt were narrow-minded.) And Game Grumps was really fun to watch.

The Sonic 06 series was hilarious, and even when Jon left, Danny proved to be an actually cool and chill guy. Sure, judging by how he apparently threw his pills into a lake and him continuing to work with Arin, he's got some issues as well, but I still like him.

Somewhere down the line though, something definitely changed. And looking back, Arin was always kind of an ass. The fact he's married to a harpy also says a lot about him as well.

As I recall Jon wasn't afraid to call Arin out on his bullshit opinions and lack of any skill. Dan doesn't know much about video games outside of old NES titles and just goes along with Arin's lowbrow humor. It's amazing how two people who really, really suck at video games continue to be popular let's players.

I see a lot of those "This is how you don't play" videos got posted about them. They're pretty good, if long and drawn out. I think this guy managed to capture the essence of Arin's incompetence much better.

A really good one is their short Star Fox 64 LP:

Arin starts playing and sucks complete ass at it as usual. Then either at episode 3 or 4 they read the comments and Arin say's "fuck it" and hands the controller over to Jon who does a million times better at the game while Arin makes passive aggressive comments about the comments they got.

I remember when the channel started and we got our first glimpse of what was to come.

Arin and Jon were playing Kirby Super Star and got stuck in the cave offensive. They needed to use an ability in a certain way, but Arin had refused to look at any tutorials. They eventually relented and looked it up. Arin got really snarky about how the fans were leaving tons of comments calling him an idiot for not just checking the pause screen which explained how to use the ability. Now a days Arin still refuses to look at tutorials, and in games that don't have them he refuses to pay attention to a games details, which is what his sequalitis videos were all about.

Then Arin and Jon played Nickelodeon Guts. Neither of them knew anything about the game and Jon won the first round because he figured out how the controls worked. Arin threw a massive hissy fit about it while Jon could have cared less. If you watch any of their vs videos today you'll see that if Arin is winning he is a pompous asshole, and if he's losing he gets very angry and spitfires excuses why it's not his fault.

Frankly I don't know how Dan manages to put up with him for so such long periods of time.

Has anyone seen this video of their Super Mario 64 LP that completely just cuts Dan out of the picture?

Christ, listening to Arin on his own is like watching the mentally handicapped kid in middle school try to serenade an audience full of over a hundred people with his off-key singing for his big talent show act. You almost have to feel sorry for the poor guy. The keyword being "almost."

I'd argue that Arin is actually on the same level as DSP, at least when it comes to playing vidya for a living. Both of them are shit at games (obviously) and like to blame whatever game they're playing for their inability to understand simple instructions. The only difference is that Phil was at least established as a fuck-up early on in his "career," whereas Arin, at some point, was regarded as some expert game design analyst and the go-to authority when it came to the ins and outs of video games.

god that's depressing. I kept musing to myself about how "see, that would have been funnier with dan there" and that really does speak levels about him as an entertainer. what a sad sack of sadness.

forgot to mention, the mumbling. the mumbling is so chronic. it's like actually speaking to the audience is impossible

The only difference between Arin and DSP is that DSP had the misfortune of playing fighting games, which are 1 v 1 and you can tell right away what someone's skill level was by how they placed in tournaments. It's the only reason people laugh at DSP for this "#1 American in SF2 : Tubro, 4th place EVO" finish because everyone knew at that point that he wasn't (and isn't) a top 8 player unless something drastic happens (In this case, people protested that game by not entering the tournament).

If Arin played fighting games he wouldn't have been able to fly under the radar as long, which worked out for him in the long run.

Something like that happened a little while ago when they were playing Paper Mario TTYD. Dan was the one playing the game, and even though he was having some trouble with it he remained positive and generally liked the game. Arin got mad because people weren't leaving angry comments like they usually do with him. He started playing up somewhat of a victim complex about how he's the only one who gets trashed on for playing badly. He also said something to the effect of "If you want to see the game played super well then go watch a speedrun."

ST was the only game Phil was good at once upon a time. He sucked ass at every other fighter he touched.

I would say Phil and Arin are at about the same level of competency. Only difference is that Arin is better at lolrandom humor and was smart enough to get a 2nd guy to do Game Grumps with so he can bounce off of. Without someone to bounce off of Arin is just like Anthony Cumia, only without a trans girlfriend (for now).

It's 100% the attitude. Sane and reasonable people don't expect someone to play something new to them and automatically be an expert. This is the defense Arin and Phil use all the time. It's their bitching and moaning for making mistakes they made that encourages people to criticize them.

No seriously I can't imagine a worse fate than being a celebrity or public figure in any capacity, where you get harassed every day by strangers and could lose your job from an angry mob by just blinking in a racist way.
And yet there are compilations on youtube of racist moments on Game Grumps that run 15-30 minutes at a time and they still don't catch any real heat from it
