Are Californians Human?

I'm thinking no. But what do you think?
So I've been reading CS Lewis' Space Trilogy lately, and he makes a rather interesting observation throughout. In the books, he posits the existence of a class of beings - the hnau, as they are called in the Old Solar Tongue. These hnau are, essentially, sentient beings - they include otters, giants, mermaids, and all manner of strange alien lifeforms, including man. What makes a hnau a hnau is the capacity for reason. The hnau differs from a beast in that it can think, and speak, and grow wise through interacting with the world, making choices in accordance with God's commandments.

Importantly, Lewis identifies hnauness, not species, with what constitutes "humanity". A space otter who can reason and grow intellectually is just as "human" as any biological human from Earth, while a biological human who has lost his capacity for reason - perhaps due to the corrupting influences of modern, progressive society, which Lewis associates with the Bent One i.e. Satan - is no "human" at all. Such a man is nothing but a receptacle for the Ruinous Powers; a literal NPC made flesh.

If this is the case - if "humanity" is not a biological state, but rather a mental one; a condition of being capable of independent, rational thought - then I think a strong case, a case potentially even supported by concrete empirical data, could be made that Californians are decidedly less human than most, yes. While I would hypothesize that the majority of Californians are, in fact, biologically human, their minds, and indeed their spirits, may at this point be so compromised that they have lost the spark of true hnauness.

They were once men; great kings of men. Then Barack the Deceiver gave to them nine Cock Rings of Power. Blinded by their greed, they took them without question, one by one falling into darkness. Now they are slaves to his will. They are the Nazgûl, neither living nor dead. At all times they feel the presence of the Ring, drawn to the power of the One. They will never stop hunting you.

Wishful thinking to assume they're not. California is what happens when you build paradise on Earth; it corrupts people. I think the state itself is cursed, and everything that comes out of it carries that curse far and wide. Not just movies and big tech; California produces something like 20% of the USA's agricultural products. Think about that next time you're picking out stuff from the produce aisle.

Its a state blessed with gold, oil, temperate climate conditions, diverse flora and fauna, multiple biomes and up until recently very large natural aquifers that allowed it to become the farming mecca it is at the moment. You couldn't find a more perfect place on this planet to base civilization around. Yet look at what all of that abundance has produced.

I love the fact that Oklahoma and Texas just share a mutual dislike of each other and California is in the background thinking "Hey Texas, please notice me" while surrounded by loads of other neighboring states that hate them.
Us Texans rarely ever make jokes about Oklahoma other than it being flatter, less well off, and having more tornado risk. We despise Californians and want them banned from residency and voting rights in Texas.
