I knew Fantano was always a hack, but this is really fucking bad. He spends most of the time attacking the artist as a person rather than the music itself (whatever happened to separating the artist from the art, Anthony?) as well as getting basic details of a song wrong. It gets really bad when he starts critiquing Eric Clapton's This Has Gotta Stop claiming its blue rock when the only section of it that's bluesy is the intro and the vast majority of it is just a bland (mostly) acoustic pop-soul song. It even features a soul chord progression (primarily vi V I IV iii ii, not seeing that in here you worthless hack, its also not a 12 bars blues structure) with inane criticisms like the vocals are bad because... well he never really goes into why they are bad, they just are ok?

He really seems to have a chip on his shoulder about the message of the song as he spends 70% of his review going on about Clapton's personal character rather than the music itself, making it seem like he only included it because of a personal vendetta against Clapton. All posturing and no substance. What's morbidly funny is he thinks its just Clapton whining about lockdowns and vaccine mandates when in the song he is referencing some horrible side effects he experienced from the AstraZeneca vaccine where he said "my hands and feet were either frozen, numb or burning, and pretty much useless for two weeks, I feared I would never play again" after the second dose, which would be a harrowing experience for a professional guitarist.

It's strange to think that some people, on rare occasion, actually do suffer from pretty bad side effects to the vaccines. You'd think that he'd check his privilege and not be ableist about being able to avoid side effects.

The new age version of Nu-Internet Music Critics™ are basically only famous because of injecting personal politics that have nothing to do with them or the music. Most of Melon’s opinions up to this point can be chalked down to something you’d literally read in a Pitchfork or (ironically enough) a FADER article.

I'm not a conspiracy nut, but it's worth noting that the AZ vax got suspended within a month of use due to the side effects severely outweighing the benefits. So it must be nice for Fantano to sit there and armchair over something he'd likely not experience until lord beetus comes a knocking and reminds him that veganism has a price.

Jesus. He doesn't understand even the broadest, most bedrock concepts of modern popular music.

Fantano is as qualified to critique music as I am to do make-up reviews.
 
My older brother was real into his videos back in the day...he always struck me as an elitist hipster doofus, and that was long before he became a raging idpol sperg. Back when I was heavily active on RYM the amount of people who took his opinion as gospel always annoyed the shit out of me. But that site is also littered with trooned out poptimist dipshits, so I can't say it really surprised me. Also maybe powerlevelling a bit here, but idgaf...as an independent musician nothing irks me more than a baldheaded fuck who's never made any worthwhile contribution to either music or politics acting like his opinions are the final word and anyone who disagrees with him is an "chud" or a "TERF" or whatever equally gay term these losers use

Seriously though, I dunno who did it worse. Filthy frank made a shitty video promoting an incredibly shitty book then tweeted a couple months later he was never going to make frank videos again, and went on to make incredibly shitty music. But he at least didn't pull down all his old videos.

Fantano made a meme review that said to be continued then got scared by one magazine article and threw his fans under the bus, deleted his only good channel and cut his dick off.

I guess fantano did do it worse. Internets busiest music nerd sounds like Cole Smithey who calls himself "the worlds smartest movie critic". Except cole smithey is just related to a retard where as fantano is an actual retard.

I really don't like anthony fantano.
