How much do you want to bet that is going to be a piece of shit?
It's going to be a great shitshow, especially since the game director said that Dragon Age was always about social justice and inclusivity.
When was the last time that Bioware made a good game? ME2?

It's worse than it looks. I think that was specifically the lead producer, who abruptly left BioWare back in August in the middle of DA4's development. Senior staff departures during development are a nearly universal element to shitty AAA games and Anthem was one such victim.

judging by all of the high level departures.
considering those were the same people believing in "bioware magic" and shat out anthem, good riddance?

EDIT: and considering the hellhole that must be the bioware offices even someone competent that just wants to make good games will probably have to walk on eggshells and constantly have to avoid diversity landmines.

:story:

Social justice? Inclusivity? Dragon Age?

This is the same setting where the locking up of mages in monasteries and lobotomising them is arguably justifiable because otherwise they might just get possessed by demons?

Where conscripting people into an order of warrior monks who are above the law of any nation and whose initiation has a 70%+ chance of killing initiates immediately and the others invariably die in twenty to thirty years time anyhow is arguably justified because without the magical powers awoken by said initiation there would be incursions by hordes of chaos mutants every few decades that are led by dragons that are immortal to everyone except said warrior monks?

Where 90% of the population are peasants and the other 10% are either vainglorious asshats, French Jerks, or slave-holding fantasy Byzantines?

Where elves are second class citizens if they live in the ghettoes, and where their free brethren, the Dalish, sneer at said ghetto-dwellers as sellouts from their glorious fantasy Romani way of life?

But noooo. Because Dorian the Gay Wizard exists, and the Qunari are totally fine with all 58 genders and 71 sexualities (even though they are a hideous caste-bound society where you are born to your lot in life and fucking stay there), it's all about EQUALITY.

Ugh. The only people in Thedas who have any inclusion or social justice are the French Jerks at the Orlesian winter palace, Fereldan's feudal lords, and the Tevinter nobility. Or possibly the high caste dwarves. Coincidentally, you don't get to see many normies and the great unhosed after Origins, probably because the fanbase all wished they were in the gorgeous fantasy palaces with pimped out dresses being fabulous.

Good riddence indeed, however if BioWare ever wants to make good games again, they need to hire and retain actual talent - which is getting harder and harder to do as thier name gets more and more tainted by these disastrous releases.

I don't see them surviving much longer, but the actual heart and soul of that studio died years upon years ago. EA will probably give them another shot with an established franchise (Dragon Age) before cutting their losses outright.

Bioware is truly the lolcow of game designers. Nothing is as entertaining as one of their titles going down the shitter.
SWTOR, ME3, Andromeda, Anthem...
It's surreal.

I'd argue that Digital Homicide is a better example of a lolcow game studio than Bioware because Bioware was successful at one portion of its life.

Ion Storm, surely. Never in the history of game development has one company promised so much and delivered so little in such a hilarious manner.

Starts life with super luxurious offices and hiring John Romero's girlfriend and promises the existence of the best FPS of all time with advanced AI, NPC companions who you can order about and who are needed to solve puzzles, super awesome graphics, mega sized levels, and an intricate branching plot. The game is announced with the advert that says "John Romero's about to make you his bitch, suck it down."

Two years behind schedule, we got... Daikatana. A glitchy mess with stupid weapons, busted scripting, AI companions who were useless and made every level into an escort mission, and a time travel plot with added weebdom. Oh, and it looked no better than Quake which had come out three years beforehand.

(They also did the delightfully nuts Anachronox, which flopped but was at least a good game because it wasn't shackled to Romero's ego.)

and deus ex. how can you forget fucking deus ex? worse, eidos pumping money into ion storm meant less money for looking glass (or at least that's the rumor). we could've gotten a proper thief 3.

daikatana itself was always victim of it's own scope and expectations. iirc they changed the engine 2-3 times and were always playing catchup instead of just releasing a smaller game first and do a sequel later, they certainly crammed enough content into the game that would be enough for two and a half games.

anachronox was fucking great and I'll be forever salty we won't get a sequel.

I’d say the incredible decline makes them more of a lolcow. The arrogance from being critical and audience darlings for over a decade was huge, and seeing how fast they pissed it away while acting like their shit doesnt stink has provided a lot of laughs.

5 fucking dollars lmao.

Fallout 76 is $7 more than Anthem. And that's its own disaster. :story: who failed harder?
I'm going to say Anthem. Fallout 76 can actually break four digits in active players. They may be able to make the money back over time- maybe-Anthem on the other hand has hardly any players and it's micro transactions are just as bad last I remember.

Bioware Austin is now working on Anthem. The game is officially dead as Austin wont work on jack shit. Reason to send it to a lazy development team? EA is probably forcing Bioware Edmonton to work on the new Dragon Age game and their other new IP.
