Anthem - EA’s next PR disaster after BF 5

If you actually buy Anthem you deserve whatever's coming to you because you're the same kind of stupid fucker who would fall for pyramid schemes. In the future we will have triple A games straight up blowing up consoles with shills on Reddit writing out defenses on their iPhones from the hospital that it's perfectly playable as long as you sit away further from the TV to minimize the bleeding.

You know, one argument that I see being raised against some indy titles is that they sometimes are poorly optimized and buggy and in terms of game-breaking bugs, Kingdom Come: Deliverance was a bit of a nuisance, but it was patched and most kinks got resolved...
That being said, I have never, ever played an indy title that fucking wrecked my rig.

This is a new low. Being banned after 900 hours is absurd, having your console shut down and just be broken is inacceptable.

Then again, EA is the company that allegedly killed someone's father via a faulty subscription-billing system.
It's just a rumor from years ago related to a billing error that actually happened, but essentially, EA had a system that would deduct the cost of a player's subscription from their bankaccount automatically. At some point, there was a bug that deducted the cost for the subscription repeatedly (several dozens of times, in fact), in some cases until the bank-account was dry.
One guy claimed that this lead to his electricity-bill bouncing, which meant that his electricity-company cut the power to his house. Unfortunately, his father was hooked up to some medical device, which was necessary for him to live (like a breather or possibly some sort of medical emergency alert thingy) and without power, he died.

There were also some rumors that EA did this intentionally to boost their data for their quarterly fiscal report.
 
The only other game I can remember that straight up bricked people's consoles was NISA's terrible PS4 port of The Witch and The Hundred Knight.

I always thought Bioware started going downhill after BG2, to be honest.

While the Aurora Engine for Neverwinter Nights was groundbreaking, the single-player campaign was so poorly written it was a shock. If you couldn't tell fifteen minutes in which NPC was going to fuck you in the ass, you were officially thicker than Christmas gravy.
 
I will give it a month till EA promises to fix Anthem by announcing a very more mediocre and buggy sequel.
 
I doubt it'll warrant sequel money. Their 90 day plan is a couple open world events and a single new dungeon. I guarantee its half finished shit that was intended for release.

They're just making sure Bethesda does not take their place for being the worst video game company ever.

Maybe they just had a 2 year plan of making a game and the rest of the 10 years is scheduled to be used for heroin-infused parties with all the dosh they made by selling it?

To me it looks like they never really had an outline for this game and the directive from EA was "give us a game that we can use to sell lootboxes."

They did have a 10 year plan though.

They wanted to rush out this piece of shit and laugh about it for 10 years and maybe have Bioware interns release content at a snail's pace.

Also micro transactions and lootboxes.

Wha..... How the fuck do you even do that?! I’ve never heard of any program doing anything like that. How would you even fix it? I know Frostbite is a pain that every developer besides Dice has to half-build from scratch whenever they make a new game, but wow.

The state of video gaming: It took three months for a studio to release a AAA game which is worse programmed than Fallout 76. It cost 100 million dollars to make.
 
REEEEEEE post so take with a grain of salt but apparently all the guns and abilities are almost identical and the stats are basically meaningless.

Anthem's damage numbers are an illusion and the best weapons in the game are lvl 1 (UP: Bioware responds and says it's a bug)

I can certainly buy that the game is bricking consoles and crashing PCs (it sounds to me like it's causing overheating and the garbage consumer-grade console gear can't cope with it), but the "hard drive in raw mode" and "overwriting the BIOS" bits are absolute horseshit.

You don't get to write directly to the hard disk on Windows (or Linux or MacOS) without superuser (elevated) access and even then there's literally no reason you'd ever want to actually do this to a mounted volume -- you'll immediately wreck the filesystem and cause data loss. Unless you're writing a disk utility, you don't do this. It doesn't even make any sense anyway. Why would the game need to be writing things to the disk during regular play, and why would it need to write things at such a high speed that it'd need to "bypass" the cache? Also, writing data to disk has nothing to do with the paging system -- that's the memory manager's purview and paging is unrelated to file I/O operations.

As for "overwriting the BIOS," ever wonder why every motherboard manufacturer has their own custom utility for flashing BIOS upgrades, sometimes differing even between revisions of the same motherboard? It's because practically every board has its own ever-so-slightly-different procedure for flashing a new BIOS image or modifying CMOS settings. It's a very precise and specific sequence of steps and everyone does it a little bit differently. A game would have no idea how to try to flash someone's BIOS at random, and even if it did, it'd need elevated privileges to even attempt it. And overwriting video card firmware? Maximum kek.

Methinks the quoted 4chan post there is a troll or a very misinformed "enthusiast."

maybe I'm just a hardass bitch but Capcom released two stellar games in a row (RE2make and DMCV) and they're still not back in my good graces yet. I can't even imagine reaching the levels of cuck this dude has.
