Okay...whats the general consensus on Cross Ange? Aside from the incredibly unrealistic outfits and rape I was thinking of watching it. I've had Yoko Takahashi's theme song on my iPod forever.

I know ANN threw a fit about episode 1. I have heard that despite the show being fanservice central (the villain spanks the rival girl on his lap for some reason?) Ange actually, through all intents and purposes, develops as a character.

Cross Ange was the type of mess that’s fascinating in the same league as Valvrave and Darling in the Frankxx. In my opinion since the character designers are the same ones from Gundam SEED, I always took it as some weird deep seated fan shipping of Cagali and Kira.

After watching all the episodes of Nagatoro, Ijiranade-san, I’m looking forward to watching the first episode of Kanojo mo Kanojo. The manga is well-done, so I’m looking forward to see what was in the anime that follows directly from the manga, and what was not.

Still, I’m also looking forward to seeing Jahy-sama, soon.

Unfortunately the episodes before that and the controversy surrounding them is what this show will be remembered for:

We even had a thread about that:

What's the main controversy with this anime. Never saw it but every time it is mentioned people act like it was this huge thing that was a piece of shit. Something about episode 16 or 14.

Cross Ange..................erm, how do I describe it?

It's basically Sunrise at their most insane, much in the same vein as Valvrave The Liberator. So you can expect tons of crazy plot twists, ridiculous scenarios, and characters who aren't exactly the brightest. But it is highly enjoyable because of all that. And yes, Ange is the main reason it all works, as she goes through a pretty decent character arc, to the point that she may actually be one of my favorite Sunrise heroines (almost on par with Rukino Saki from the aforementioned Valvrave). Overall, I'd actually recommend the show, but just be prepared for some insane hijinks.

And personally, I actually liked Valvrave (or at least its first cour) more, and wish Sunrise would make more of it.
You mean Valverape the Penetrator?

I unironically consider Cross Ange a 10/10 for the sheer entertainment value alone that it gave me the whole way through. Ange is also a stand out character to me, Hilde and Top Maid being tied for second favorite, in that she is unapologetically a massive bitch and learns to embrace that fact as she spends her time on the lesbian prison colony. The plot is also quite bizarre, but it just kind of works because it fits within the messed up logic of the world where none of the out there plot twists really break that logic. It's a show that on all levels should have spun out and sucked, but somehow it didn't due to good old Sunrise magic. I personally rate it higher than Valvrave, which I also enjoyed disregarding the second season, though below the masterpiece Samurai Flamenco which I also consider a 10/10.

I'd also say that the main villain worked great and I found him genuinely creepy in how he acted and the fact that he had a massive meltdown over Tusk saying Ange wasn't a virgin because he fucked her still makes me laugh.

Also, Nana Mizuki voices Ange so that's another point in the shows favor.

God, I love Sunrise original mecha so much. They are almost always batshit wild for no reason. Even if I can't remember what happened for most of something like Buddy Complex I still remember the big twist of Evil leader of the enemy nation being an older version of a pilot that seeks revenge against the MC (even using time travel to attack him) all because he cucked him of the girl he liked and have a laugh.

Valverape was also great for shit like Moses and Jun Fukuyama screaming Eru Erufu in increasingly extreme ways. So many memes.

The main controversy is the insane lost potential. It was really promising and had some good stuff, but dropped the ball HARD in the last stretch where the main story/themes are dropped for… some fucking alien conspiracy.

I know trannies got mad because the plot had the children grow up without acknowledging their gender, only for them to rebel and assert themselves as their biological gender. Because they are vindicative hypocritical motherfuckers

The only isekai parody that needs to happen is one where somehow light novel out there tells the target audience to read something good instead of self-masturbatory garbage and that somehow prompts NEETs worldwide to stop being not just degenerate, worthless losers but degenerate, worthless losers that like different things than I do. The gall of them...

I still say they should make an isekai where the demons and monsters of the Earth end up in another world like Michael Myers, The Thing, Dracula, Deadites etc. and they end up destroying said world and there’s nothing they can do to stop and they someone from Earth to stop them

Have you heard about the killer shark isekai?

They forgot the JSDF
I haven't really seen anyone talk about gate for awhile and while iirc it sold pretty well I don't think it caught on very much since there haven't been to many military isekai, which I find a little disappointing since I'll admit that niche is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me when they don't go completely "Nippon Banzai"
Off the top of my head I think I can name 4
Gate
Youjo Senki
Japan Summon (weird one where the entire country gets trucked, so Gate turned up to 11)
And a time travel one where kid gets reincarnated in 19th century England and fights Napoleon as a riflemen.

I've also heard there's a new one where the MCs class is literally "non-commissioned officer" in a world where there's only knights and adventures, but I haven't been able to find it do it's either fake or a obscure web novel.

I watched the welcome to demon school anime and it was ite 3/5 I liked the characters and the fact they didn't over sexualize the children like other shows in the same genre

I liked the MC acknowledges he's a beta loser and all of his powers are gifted to him while he actually has real skills and a good explanation for having them (being able to fix stuff and dodge attacks well due to shitty childhood)

I also like that the side characters have personalities and lives outside being around the MC

Might even pick up the manga

Realistically if someone made an isekai like this, that author would be out of a career. NEETs don't care and Japanese NEETs never want to work because of how the work culture in Japan is.

I'd love a gag manga where a summoning ceremony grabbed a not-Jason or similar for their hero and it using horror movie logic. Princess plays the straight man and never faces death because final girl trope or something. Added fun if they attempt other hero summons to fix the problem and just get more knock off versions of popular horror slashers/villains.

Started reading Dungeon Meshi from a recommendation of a guy I used to play DnD with and it's pretty alright although I did get a little whiplash in the first chapter with the characters almost being whipped out by a dragon (and one being outright eaten) to suddenly start cooking monster bits.
Aside from that it's pretty funny but most most of the jokes seem to revolve around this over and over so I'm a bit worried it'll get a bit stale.

I'm gonna give another dozen or so chapters and decide if its worth reading.

As somebody who is fully caught up, the series doesn't get stale and starts going deeper into the plot around the halfway point of the manga. I highly recommend it and it's probably my favorite fantasy manga that's currently coming out. Also the expressions from this manga are top notch.

Is there some kind of unwritten rule in Japan where they feel the need to repeat certain words ad nauseum? For example, Nanomachines (MGS4), vocal cord parasites (MGS5), Celestial Being (Gundam 00), darling (Darling in the Franxx), etc.

I would make a reverse Isekai where a powerful male character ends up in Japan without his powers. He tries to become a member of japanese society but turns into a fat otaku neet at the end.
