Would any of you nerds be interested in Japanese superpowered high school student Iron Man? The first volume of the Ultraman manga is out.

Definitely. Probably gonna buy a few series I'm invested in before picking it up, but I will.

Has anyone read Assassination Classroom and My Hero Academia? Are they any good?

I haven't read the manga but I did watch the anime for Assassination Classroom and I thought it was great. The show's funny and Korosensei is a great character. I'll probably continue reading from where the show ended
 
Picked up the first volume of Terra Formars, and it's okay. There was some funny writing and the humor was a lot like Jojo(i.e: Taking itself deadpan serious during a stupid situation) which I liked a lot, but I don't feel it's worth full price.

Also bought Rurouni Kenshin, but it hasn't come yet. Saw the first episode of the anime. It was good, and that theme song is oddly catchy. Kind of like Yu Yu Hakusho's opening, but much less fitting.
 
I'll admit that I didn't finish Part 5 (read a bunch of spoilers so I can keep up). I didn't like much of the cast but maybe I'm not giving them enough of a chance. Like that guy who has Sex Pistols? Him talking about how he killed that cat that bit him doesn't make him sound like a hardass, it makes him sound like a little bitch with anger issues. Which is odd for me to say because when Dio did it, it made me interested enough to keep reading.

The supporting cast like Buccellati's gang and the stand fights were really part 5's only saving grace. If you ask me, Bruno was more of a main character than Giorno was. It's not like you're missing much besides the Green Day fight that had a 6 and a half page beating.

Started reading My Hero Academia. Give it a few chapters, and it's great. The best way to describe the first volume is Hunter X Hunter with American comic books mixed in.
 
Rewatching Steins;gate. The early episodes are a lot easier to follow if you already know the series premise, I think. I feel like it would appeal to a lot of people here. Basically, it's about a bunch of crazy nerds who accidentally discover time travel.

Fuck yeah, awesome show, recently just bought the VN on Vita, definitely a great time travel story with awesome characters, highly recommended.
 
Slowly wading my way through my manga folder lately, especially the Dynamic Pro and Go Nagai stuff I have. Caught up in Berserk, mainly, so I'm waiting for 338's translation to drop.

Devilman was pretty great, especially the goddamn Jinmen chapter and onwards. Also been watching Panzer World Galient, which is a fun fantasy mech show so far.

EDIT: Amon: The Dark Side of Devilman is pretty fucked up. Definitely shouldn't have started this before bed, lol.

I went to the Chapters in the city the other days. I love going to book stores since I can usually find something I'd like, but can rarely get away to do so. They didn't have the book I wanted (Fer-de-Lance, the first Nero Wolfe story), but they had the entirety of Phantom Blood instead. Didn't order the former (but will in the near future), and bought the latter.

Edit: I just finished reading through the Umaru manga. It's really charming, though I can't help but wonder what's going to happen with that new girl with the diamond hairpiece. I swear to God if they go "Urumu isn't Taihei's sister so let's hook them up" I will be so pissed.

I am literally Takeo irl. Not like, in a weeb way, but literally, I'm humongous (bigger than Takeo is supposed to be, that is to say, >2 meters/250 pounds), towered over my classmates in similar fashion, and my best friend was a ladykiller in waiting.

internally monologues about how he knows that the girl is interested in Suna and not him?

I know that feel. Oh, my brother, I know that feel. Damn good show.
 
Has anyone noticed how many anime shows there are based on classic Western literature?

Shows based on books are pretty rare over here, but they're pretty plentiful in Japan. Anyone know why?

Probably, though I can think of a few examples that came before the WMT became incredibly popular in the late 70s.

A lot of the shows adapting classic Western literature that came after that were probably influenced by the WMT in their style and tone, and choice of material...
