TV is more watched then movies in Japan which is why people like Toei are remaking a dragon ball movie into a long series. Over here they get made as live action movies due to the cartoons are for children mindset people have.
 
Really nerdy question, but are there any sci fi anime or manga series with interstellar travel and exploration like Star Trek? I know there's a manga adaptation of ST out there, but I'm talking about more original series here.

It seems like virtually every manga and anime series is set in high school in Japan nowadays...

Legend of the galactic heroes. It's based off a 10 Novel series(novels coming out in the U.S. Starting in March), and is considered by many to be THE science fiction anime. The anime is coming to the U.S. Sometime, but for now, it's up to you to find where to watch it. Start with the film 'my conquest is a sea of Stars'.
 
Rewatched Kyousougiga, Uchouten Kazoku, and Gatchaman Crowds.
Kyousougiga and Uchouten are my all time favorites and rewatching them made me love them even more. Going to start seriously watching Gatchaman Crowds Insight now.
 
One Piece got really freaking epic with the foundation of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet.

In other One Piece news, I am planning on purchasing the Saboady Episodes in a few days while I am still in the United States. I haven't gotten any new episodes since the Merry's Funeral, and while I am gonna be skipping out on a huge chunk of the story, I really do not want to miss out on this arc. I love Camie so much, the confrontation with Kuma will drive me to tears, and of course, Impel Down is going to be downright amazing.

I'll just be getting Thriller Bark later on a Collection set (I don't care about differences between Voyages and Collections, I just care about getting all the episodes in some way).

Well shit, they just announced season 3 of Sailor Moon Crystal. At the very least, one of the staff left, so things might not be as horrendously shitty this time around. I'll probably end up watching it either way.
 
Just watched 50 episodes of Legend of the Galactic Heroes recently and all I can say is holy FUCK it is so good.
It's got some good space politics, epic space battles, great characters, and feels packed into just one show. The relationship between Reinhard and Kircheis is brotastic and I enjoyed every interaction they had together. I also really like the relationship between Yang Wenli and Reinhard. They respect each other deeply, even though their beliefs are so different.
 
I finished watching Tiger & Bunny today, and it was fantastic. The show was funny, the characters were likable, the CGI was actually great (unlike the Berserk movies). I haven't really seen much of the superhero genre in anime, One Punch Man is great, the first half of Samurai Flamenco was good, and although I haven't read it, I've heard My Hero Academia is great as well.

All that's left is to check out the show's movies

MHA is pretty good so far, but I find that a lot of my enjoyment is kind of reserved, since I'm just waiting for it to turn into the endless power up death spiral that 99% of shonen manga end up as.

Having a team manga where people other than MAIN CHARACTER, RIVAL, and LOVE INTEREST are actually relevant is really nice, though.

EDIT for actual content: Someone recommend me a manga that is a) short or a series of shorts and b) weird. I just finished Nickelodeon again and I'm jonesin' for some surrealism.

I started reading Berserk a few days ago. I know this is a really long (and explicit) series, but I just got to the part where
Charlotte wakes up and catches her father licking her nipples
and said "oh my god" out loud. This shit is so dark and twisted, but that's what makes it great.
 
Berserk is one of my favorites. And it only gets darker from here.

Started reading Gintama. While good, the anime still takes the top priority due to not taking as much time.
 
Started watching Aldnoah.Zero. I kinda love how emotionless Inaho is. Things are going to shit all around him and he's just kinda blank. He sees his friend die and all he can do is say his name in a normal speaking voice.

It's fucking hilarious.
 
One of the shows that's currently airing that I'm really enjoying is Ushio to Tora. It's outside the realm of what I usually watch, but damn is it engaging. I love it so far.

Given that my favourite anime is about jackass highschool boys playing basketball, this is a pretty big change. Definitely didn't expect to like it this much and I only picked it up because my favourite voice actress is in it (at some point, lel).
 
One Punch Man's OP is amazing.


EDIT: Just finished the first episode of Gundam, Iron Blooded Orphans. It's pretty great. If you wanted to ever jump into Gundam, this would be the best place to do so.

I watched this whole thing last night...

It's apparently a legend of bad anime, and it did not disappoint. Anyone else here know about Dracula: Sovereign of the Damned?

Yeah. Dracula basically acknowledges that he just mugged a man for money just to get some food.

*Edit: Considering the wheelchair kung fu scene, it's funny to consider the old guy attacks someone in public with a bladed cane. One can only wonder, where is the police?
