But I need to see some of the most off-model animation in the genre in 1080p.
:c
We never get our fun.

Apparently Gainax lost the 16mm reel for episode 15 of EVA. Kind of a shame, since that was one of the more visually interesting episodes IIRC, but oh well.
Sad to hear of that, but not surprised.

So I saw Resurrection F
First of all, I really need something clarified. I thought for sure there was some rule with the Dragonballs where you could only bring back to life people who died in the past year? Was that just a rule with the old set, or am I making shit up? I thought this was supposed to be an explanation for why they never brought Grandpa Gohan back, but maybe they just didn't care. I saw the dub, all Shenron really says is "it's not recommended"
So anyway, they bring back chunks of Frieza with the dragonballs and put him in their brand new resurrection chamber. I thought the explanation for Frieza becoming so much stronger, that he'd never really trained before, was pretty reasonable. He's so fucking lazy he doesn't even bother flying around with his own power, he has a machine do it for him. So OK.
It's nice to see both Goku and Vegeta are training together on this faraway planet/whatever with Whis. One thing I think has been a fatal flaw with Vegeta's training is that he simply doesn't train with others, or take on masters like Goku does. He prefers to train alone and that's a real weakness of his IMO. So it's good to see him training with a superior fighter and hopefully learning from him.
Piccolo babysitting Pan was pretty funny. But why, why did they make Gohan such a pussy in this? It doesn't make any sense. Mystic was supposed to unlock his potential for pretty much forever, right? So "he hasn't been training" isn't much of an excuse when he was probably the most powerful individual at the end of Majin Buu with his true potential completely unlocked? I know Toriyama/crew struggled for years with trying to make Gohan a hero but balance Goku being the fan favorite but I feel like they are just scrapping everything with Gohan and that's really, really disappointing. Moreover, I truly wish Videl was doing more, I know she can't compete with any of them and DBZ has never really been about female characters but she's one of the reasons I first began watching this show and it's sad watching her not doing very much even though she's being kawaii as fuck.
On that note, I really want to see 18 more :/ I watched the dub of this, but I felt like her whole "by the way, I'm still way stronger than you" to Krillin was maybe dubbed in? Or was that more or less the translation? Has anyone seen the sub? I felt like it was added in by Funimation to cater to the female audience. Not that I mind, it was funny and it got a good laugh from everyone in the crowd. I don't mean to sound like Anita Sarkeesian here but the sidelining of the female characters is making me more and more hopeful that the upcoming female Whis character is actually interesting.
Anyway, aside from that, I liked it, the blue hair was a little silly but whatever, I liked Jaco, I liked Vegeta finally winning at the end but then of course it gets time reversed, I hope someone explains it to him lol. I know Toriyama has said in the past he'd like to see Vegeta defeat the big baddie for once and this was kind of a cop out but also satisfying in a strange way.
Overall still fun to watch but I liked BoG better.

The one year limit was only ever applied to group revivals. Singular revivals never had a precedent in the series. Toriyama himself stated in an interview before it would be possible to bring Bardock back to life, but there'd be no point because he'd be too weak.

As for the movie, Jaco was amazing. I loved him when he debuted in Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, I loved him even more in the movie. He just doesn't give a fuck about anything. "Sorry, they have a strict policy against suicide missions."

I don't know if you're making up the rule about the Dragon Balls, but Grandpa Gohan stayed in Heaven because there were "a lot of foxy ladies" there, at least in the manga. Yeah, it was fun to watch, but BoG was the better film. Also,
Freeza in Hell was great.

I finally finished Part V today.
...
Didn't care for it. I adored some of Giorno's crew (Buccelleti, Mista and Narancia) but overall, I just didn't like it. That last fight felt so underwhelming and Giorno is just a boring Jojo (the worst kind). Hell, he rubbed me as a more Gary Stu character than Jonathon. Also, nothing comes about his connection to Dio despite meeting Polnareff. WTF?!

I was really looking forward to Part V but man, such disappointment. Onto Stone Ocean now, and looking forward to SBR.

I felt part V was really a letdown but still enjoyable. Stone Ocean and SBR will have you on the edge of your seat though.

Baccano is an example of an anime where the dub is way better than the Japanese voices. And a series that desperately needs another season (or 5).

I skipped Vento Aureo after a few chapters because the translation was so awful. Not really Duwang-tier terrible, but very dull and unemotive. The scan quality wasn't great either. I still haven't gone back to it, I was hoping at the time that Invincible Trio would pick it up after they finished Diamond, which they did an excellent job on.

I haven't even finished part V yet.

I think I'm just gonna move past it for now(like atm said, the scans aren't great) and come back after Jojo's Colored Adventure finishes redoing it.

I find it ironic how part 5 is considered such a low point in the series and yet it's one of the most popular parts in Japan. Mista, Giorno, Diavolo, and Bruno even made it in Araki's top 10 favorite JoJo characters list. I think it's unpopularity may be related to it's shitty scans (doesn't really change the fact that it was still pretty boring). Stone Ocean is much more superior. Better protagonist, better villain, cooler stands (Limp Bizkit, 'nuff said), and is much more connected to earlier parts than Vento Aureo was.

Here's the Araki's top 10 list if you wanna see. His choices are definitely....different from others:

latest

Shingechi's number 9? And better than DIO? Odd choice indeed. Though he is right, Kira's better than DIO, and Josuke is the best character in the series.

It is weird seeing Shigechi in the list at all. He never really made impact on me besides having a kind of cool stand. I also thinks it's weird seeing Diavolo and Giorno ahead of characters like DIO, Jotaro, and Joseph; then again part 5 was more well received in Japan. The list was made back when he was still making Steel Ball Run so I don't think the list has changed too much. Kira's definitely the best villain in the series, but Josuke was always behind Joseph as best JoJo for me.

I liked Part 5 better than 3 and maybe as much as 2 (so far, 4 is my favorite) because it has some of the best fights and Stands (Sex Pistols, Sticky Fingers, King Crimson, Beach Boy, Green Day..). Also, King Crimson looked really threatening. But Giorno is the worst Jojo so far and it has the worst story, nothing about it makes sense.
Araki's taste is weird, Giorno and Shigechi stick out a lot. At least the list has Jotaro in it, not the best Jojo but I think he's underrated.

King Crimson wouldn't be so confusing if Araki didn't make mistakes with it.

It erases time, and can't attack during the time that was erased because this attack will be erased too. And everyone skips time to 10 seconds later and don't remember how they walked up stairs, for example, because they never did it. It was skipped. So far it's okay.
But then, how did Bruno see his future double? How did King Crimson kill Narancia? Did he just close the door on him during erased time?

I guess this is still the best explanation

Started watching the Broken Blade movies, since I've had the DVD for like two years. Really fun, enjoyable movies so far. TV series worth a watch? Heard it was just the movies cut in half with a few bits of new animation.

Sad to hear of that, but not surprised.
Honestly, I'm not either. I remember for the longest time, it was believed they lost all the masters. Gainax in general strikes me as the type of place to lose all their shit constantly.

I know ya might not want to read it again but I found a translation that doesn't have shitty scans. The translation themselves don't look too bad.

That's the Colored Adventure team. They're slowly going through each part and retranslating parts of the series using the digital full color scans. They aren't done with Part 5 yet, though.
