There's several reasons. The job first and foremost is killer. Combined with Japan's workplace culture, these artists can work themselves to death. For example, One Piece's artist is forced by his publisher to take a week off on a regular basis otherwise he'll work himself into the hospital. Unfortunately, not all artists are seen as valuable and don't have the same kind of policy in place for them.

There's also the high number of chain smokers in Japan. Combined with the reality that sitting at a desk for hundreds of hours at a time doesn't lead to the healthiest lifestyle can lead to predictable results.

And lastly there's Japan's terrible mental health care. They have many advances in the medical field but the stigma of mental health and publicly asking for help to your problems really sets back Japan in dealing with mental illness.
Iirc the author of World Trigger actually had to have his editor convince him to go to the hospital because of neck injuries.

Afterwards, the manga went on hiatus for about a year or two while he was recovering before they cautiously set him up a much more relaxed schedule in a seperate magazine, its one of the reasons why its tournament arc lasted so long.

It's especially painful because the story was entering its final arc and we were finally moving towards the final confrontation with the God Hand.
The first REAL fight with Griffith was coming up from what I heard, but I probibly just read that in this thread or somewhere. Still 400 chapters of filler to go, Wouldn't have finished even by 95

This week's ZLSR was a bit of a curveball narratively, but ended up working really well IMO. Things are really starting to pick up now.

Kotaro was particularly interesting in this one, his actions and reactions at the start has me wondering if one of the first ever theories I saw floating about for this show (he was the driver of the truck) might actually have some merit. 112 had pretty much killed that one as it gave a reason for him to be so attached to Sakura but after this it is worming it's way into my head again.

Still Yugiri focus for what we can guess is 2 episodes by the part 1, I had a guess that Yugiri would be the last backstory we get since it seems inevitable she has some tie to the bartender but looks like I got that one dead wrong what with Tae still being Tae even after her episode.

Something tells me we'll never find out who drove the truck from episode 1 of Season 1. It'll probably be a mystery like the way Tae went out.

Isn't there a prequel manga about Tae being released? Zombie Land Saga Gaiden. Don't know if its really "canon" or not though.
That's the thing, if it's non-canon, then there's still the possibility it could never be explain within the show itself. Chances are it could be a way to throw people off, after all (and this is my own autistic canon thoughts), given how Tae and Sakura's familial graves are next to each other, the prequel could be just a way to throw off fans if they reveal that Tae was the one who accidentally hit Sakura with the truck and both died that day (hence why the former was the first "person" the latter saw upon re-awakening).

Or it could be the guy from near the end of Season 1 that hits Zombie!Sakura. Or maybe it's like other anime where trucks hit the protagonists and we'll just never find out because the writers or animators never bother showing them. I mean if the creators are being this resistant with revealing some character backstories (Kotoro especially), it's entirely possible they could have the answer, but are withholding it just to troll the fans.

Oh I assume they will never show who hit her unless it's plot relevant and even then I'd say they would imply it at best but outside it being Kotaro or Tae there really isn't much likelihood of that., I've just assumed it is just the classic case of Truck-Kun hard at work.

I just saw that shortly after I posted, an interesting backstory if canon and for now unless it contradicts something weather it is intended as her true past or just a joke it will be taken as the truth. Been around enough fandoms to know that they will latch on to anything when nothing is provided, I want to say I saw people take a misprint on some tie in soap product or something in that range as gospel before but all I have is some vague memory of something like that happening so no idea if that is something that happened or just some delusion from the past.

That's what I'm thinking too, but we still got half a season left, so it's entirely possible they'll explain it. But I doubt it. Like I said, they've been hesitant to actually talk about some characters' backstories either until recently like Tae, or at all like Yugiri, small details like that are probably just going to be fandom speculation until whenever (if ever).

Of course, the possibility of them just simply not thinking about it at all, and it just being standard "random truck hits protag" is also something to take into consideration. Seeing as, like I also said, most writers or animators don't really think these through completely.

New Nagatoro manga chapter has officially set the stage for the next arc.

Also the spirit of the President lives on despite her graduating.

I wonder if the latest chapter (192) of WataMote was teasing a twist similar to the new character in Nagatoro-san who is just the former art club president's cousin who has the same family tendency to strip.

It's a vignette chapter and the third vignette features Tomoko Kuroki (now in her third year of high school) meeting with her first year kouhai, Shizuku Hirasawa. Before Tomoko arrives, someone who appears to know Tomoko calls Shizuku and the caller knows that Tomoko's meeting with Hirasawa and wants to ask her something about the meeting. I think it's most likely Tomoko's cousin Kiko Satozaki a.k.a. "Kii-chan" (who met Hirasawa in chapter 142) but a popular WataMote fan theory is that Shizuku Hirasawa is a close relative of Megumi Imae, the former student council president who showed kindness towards Tomoko during Tomoko's rough first year in high school so Tomoko looked up to Imae as her sempai the same way Shizuku Hirasawa looks up to Tomoko as her sempai.

Regarding truck-kun in ZLSR, the obituraries Okaba was looking at in the final scene were translated on /a/
Most notable was the truck driver saying he had been blinded by a bright light. This could have just been a 'sakura has a big head and her forehead reflects' gag or indication of something else

Episode was fun, bit filler-y but its a nice point to mark how far Sakura has come
Also what the hell are they feeding the people in Saga, god damn

Yeah, I knew I couldn't be the only one who noticed Maimai's maimais. Like damn.

Looking forward to finally getting some Yugiri backstory. Only took one and a half seasons, but better late than never.

Jun Mochizuki's new series Vanitas no Shuki had an anime adaption announced and with the latest pv they've confirmed that Yuki Kaijura is doing the ost for it. Studio doing it is Bones, so it'll probably look great, and there's apparently enough source material that there won't be a weird Bones ending.

Reminds me that I have to get back into reading the series as what I read was pretty great. Might end up being a sleeper hit of the season because I can see a bunch of people being repelled thinking it's just fujoshit. Maybe if it does well they'll finally give Pandora Hearts the full adaption it deserves.

I didn't expect to see the Digibro defense in the new manga by the Konosuba guy:
