As someone who's been watching seasonal anime for almost 10 years now, the way I see it there's always going to be trends that spawn a lot of copypaste shit. I remember how before the isekai boom there was a flood of magic school battle harems which even lead to two shows having almost shot for shot the same setup of a dude fighting a pink haired chick with fire powers after seeing her in her underwear. If you take the time to look around on anichart, though, you can still find interesting stuff. It's just that interesting shows such as Odd taxi, Shadows house and Mashiro no oto aren't going to cause as much buzz cause clickbait sites and youtubers are too busy cooming over waifus or writing outrage article about how sexist japanese wish fullfilment trash is.

I don't care either way but any potential controversy could easily have been avoided by not virtue signalling about pronouns in the advertising and instead letting the small subset of anime fans who care about pronouns in magical genderbending romantic comedies* laud Discotek's pronoun use in their reviews.

* Yeah, I know, in this particular case, it wasn't so much "magical" as it was "alien resurrection technology that also reversed his gender because [reasons]".
But they have to! This faggy spic that works for Discotek (and does restoration under the name Femboy Films:christine: ) had to make the show "in tune for trans acceptance" and "make its language as inclusive as possible." I have no idea how a show about an alien turning you into a girl is trans acceptance. I ended up getting the Media Blasters DVDs since this new release won't dare to mention he was a guy before turning into a girl.

He finds certain Japanese styled fonts subtly racist and even defends that crazy Sarah Henshaw and her shit translation.

In other lines of work this kind of petulant behavior would get you fired immediately, yet for some reason localizers for Japanese media have been getting away with this for the past five years or so and continue to do so. And what's worse is that they're applauded for it.
That's the power of having a total monopoly on a market, you can brag about your anti-consumer practices openly and face no consequences.

Oh shit, you're right. I had almost forgotten the magic battle academy harem was the 2010 trend, everything blended together by 2015.

You will never have your house rotoscoped for an anime background.

I am so glad Ramna 1/2 was made and adapted before clown world. Can you imagine the outrage and 'localization' bullshit?
I feel differently, imagine the fucking shitshow it would be to try and shoehorn all the genderspecial words into the show that change daily. Also all the editor's notes that would digitally pop up on screen blocking out the actual action with paragraphs explaining what the words mean and what the audience should understand and accept.

It could give Ghost Stories a run for it's money.

Just for the lols, a few tweets from one person responding to the fact that anime and manga is outselling Western stuff by a lot, along with it being much more creative nowadays and not being all woke.

I would unironically say that isekai is more creative than whatever trash the mainstream american comic industry has the gall to put out. At the least, it has more variety than "quirky superhero has to deal with beating villians and having a social life?!"

Also I hate it when retards try to pull "Well anime is political because they talk about justice". You could say a that sort of garbage about anything.

Edit: I actually have read it, and did actually enjoy it, though the latest arc has been really dragging. While I'm not usually a fan of genderbends, it feels more like a bl comedy more than anything else, probably because I've heard that either the author or the artist (I forget which) is a woman. That being said, the dub is probably going to be nauseating, and I wouldnt be surprised if they try to add stuff to the sub.

Call me a faggot or a troon all you want, but I really like the manga of Fantasy Bishoujo Juniku Ojisan and I'm both excited it has been announced for an anime adaption and nervous about. I'm pretty concerned the West is going to make it about trans politics and fucking ruin it.

Anybody else here read it though?
I haven't read it but I'll check out the anime. Sounds like it could be entertaining.

That goes for way more than just anime.
I remember the example with Die Hard. It came out and then what followed was a bunch of shit movies that were essentially "Die Hard but with [blank]"
Sometimes, a piece of entertainment catches on so well that other studios are going to want a piece of the pie.
I'm sure tvtropes has a name for this.

Excited to find out that Fist of The North Star is getting the official Ultimate Edition manga treatment.

Maybe I’ll pick up both this and the first few volumes of Berserk, come next month. Even though FoTNS is still famous and well-known, you don’t hear the anime fans in popular circles bring up the manga adaptation of this that much. Not that I’m complaining, of course.
Fuck yeah, I've been thinking of reading of the manga recently so I pay pick this up.

I realized today that I really enjoy - I’m not sure exactly what genre to call them... tsundere? mixed signals? nuisance girls? flirteasers? series. Like, I’d call them “romcom”, but they’re more specific than that.

I think Teasing Master Takagi, Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out, and Don’t Bully Me Nagatoro are the best known.

I found one recently called “Please Go Home, Akutsu-san” which seems like a cross between Nagatoro and Uzaki-chan, but with a delinquent girl. Chapters are super short, but some of the setups are clever.

My favorite, other than Nagatoro, is definitely Yancha Gal no Anjou-San, another series about a gyaru messing witha nerd. It’s still got some really funny teasing and harassing, but also has some genuinely sweet and nice scenes.

And on the topic of gyaru - Gal Gohan is more on the romance side, with a girl falling for her Home Ec teacher. Also part of the already full cooking manga genre.

Kaname Bandai Wants to Play is funnier and lighter. It’s also a weird nostalgia piece, though it’s strange reading a series that has to explain to kids today what the toys of my childhood were all about.

Sorademo Ayamu no Yotorokisu is actually a nice gender-flip, done by the person who wrote Takagi. Because of that, the feel of both the flirting and the teasing is a little different, which I actually found impressive considering it was the same writer doing a very similar concept. I need to catch up on this one.

Also on the gender-flip is Yankee-kun to Hakujou Gaaru which, if you liked Koe no Katachi, but wanted something that didn’t feel like a knife through the gut, this one is good. It has some good romcom stuff, while also having some good growing up moments for a character who’s falling in love with someone with a disability and learning what that really means and what it means to be respectful without babying them.

The one I keep asking myself if it fits is Tonari no Seki-kun. On the one hand, I feel like it’s close to these, and predates them, so if anything it‘s maybe a proto-example. On the other hand, it’s very hard to the humor and teasing side and very low on the romance side.

Anyway, that’s my thoughts on a bunch of them, so if anyone else has some recommendations, lemme know. I always feel weird about just dropping lists.

Doujima-Kun Won't Be Disturbed is a lot like Teasing Master but gender-flipped.

The Dangers in My Heart is a real good one thats a usual recommendation.

I'd also recommend The Story Between a Dumb Prefect and a High School Girl with an Inappropriate Skirt Length. Its drawn by the same guy who did Onani Master Kurosawa and Destroy all Humanity It Cannot be Regenerated.
