I've heard this kind of stuff is pretty common with anime dubs since they don't pay union rates or whatever. Most anime VA aren't unionized and once they get "big" enough to join a union it's hard to do non-union approved work. If they do they usually have to work under a fake name.

Probably the production isn't up to whatever standard the union has or doesn't meet all their other requirements, so they're barring any members as a means of pressuring.

But Canadian dubs can't use American actors. They're bound by a different contract entirely.

Was Ocean trying to get some of their old Canadian voices who now live in the U.S. back? If so, I assume they'd be members of the American and Canadian unions, like most Canadian voice actors who came here, and thus can work for them.

There's some disagreement online about the translation of Nagatoro, the usual people are defending the use of words like "sus", "scrub" and "derp" and so on, and apparently only white nationalists object to Western "localizers" cramming their translations with hilarious meme talk and socially aware nonsense. The people who argue for this sort of garbage only have this opinion about certain Japanese media. I don't think they'd approve of vintage films being translated as such, like having Gamergate references in the subtitles of The Seven Samurai, or "heckin amazeBALLS!'" in French films from the 1950s.

I mean, if this is OK, then I will ask why they shouldn't get Western localizers for Do the Right Thing and have Mookie say HOLY SHITBALLS!!! SICKO MODE before he throws the trash can into Sal's Pizzeria.

But you wouldn't put those things in there anyway because it wouldn't work in the context.

I don't know anything about the show, but I assume it takes place in the modern day - the here and now, where it wouldn't feel out of place.

I’m fine with some slang being put in, as it’s still the same in-context comment. Its when they add in stuff that has nothing to do with it, like “GamerGate” with Prison School or “the patriarchy” with Dragon Maid where it annoys me. It’s deliberately changing what’s being said just to cram in your own retarded political take.

I didn't know where else to put it.
Not Happenings, would be my guess.

ETA: Also is this sped trying to argue that sus isn't an old word? He's wrong.

He's posting about John money and calling troons pedophile groomers. I'll be beyond shocked if he still has his account tomorrow.
