Sub first always. Give the dub a try after if you're curious (I've only seen clips of the dub but JP Kotaro is irreplaceable imo) but I can't really recommend listening to a series based around songs and not listening to the original song
Zombieland Dub is good and the songs stay in japanese.

The only weird thing is how janky the 3d animation is for the first season.

I'm glad someone else remembers Arpeggio of Blue Steel. I picked it up that season alongside Kill la Kill, Golden Time, Nagi no Asu kara, and NouCome (among others) for the hell of it and I was legit blown away by how it looked and that the premise wasn't actually as stupid as it sounded. That it's continued to go unnoticed is a damn shame. What a hidden gem.
I'm glad the series was given a proper ending with the 2 movies, that's more than you can say for many 1 cour shows. Being a massive Garupan fan as well as a militaria nerd I was on the lookout for any series that had a similar concept, and Arpeggio popped out at me while I was doing some googling.

On a related note, is there an airplane/fighter jet series in a similar vein? There's things like Strike Witches which don't really have the same feel, or in recent memory something like Girly Air Force which was just blah. I don't even want to think about Kotobuki because that CGI made me want to vomit and it felt like the show had zero plot for the first 10 episodes. I recently watched and enjoyed Yukikaze but that's still not exactly what I'm looking for.

The Shirobako OVA Third Aerial Girls Squad would be perfect for what I'm looking for if it was it's own series and not a 1 off thing.

That is honestly rather jarring to me, personally. Even though dubbed lyrics have a super hard time working with the lip-flaps, the dubbers should really try their damndest to try and make the song work in English like it does in Japanese. That's what makes anime musicals such a challenge that really puts the dubbers to the test. FUNimation has done this before (ex. Beck, Show By Rock!!) and has the actual talent to do it, so why not even bother to make the attempt? It being a simuldub shouldn't be an excuse 'cause they did this with the Space Dandy musical episode just fine and I think even Show By Rock!! was a simuldub.

Have you seen Area 88? If not, you may like it.
Lol. Where's the goddamn NANA bluray? And the license rescue of Paradise Kiss tbh
Sentai is releasing it this year. The episodes are up on HiDive and if you don't feel like pirating, there's a free 30 day trial on their site.

I just finished up the first season of Kaiji. The character designs can put some off, but the gambling risks and tension really kept my attention. I know there's a spin-off and I'm looking forward to the second season. I even picked up the first volume of the manga.

Dunno what release this is from but found this is on YT and it's a bit rough, even when not compared to the original

The 3D's looking much better this time round, hopefully its not a frontloading of budget

Zombieland Saga dub or sub? Bluray says the songs are dubbed.

>dub
>song dub
>not wanting to get blown away by junko's singing voice
>missing out on sailor moon grunting and growling

I smell heresy

but seriously, original VA is great with great performances, really shows the difference between the effort JP puts in compared to EN in general.
case in point:

or for comparison (fuck cr but it was the easiest to find):

one theory is the CG is delibaretly improving the same way idols are, the last performance is hardly comparable to the first guerilla show
also it fits the autotuned version almost perfectly as some meta commentary

or it's simply the studio improved/had more time or they used different ones

I always find it interesting how low effort a lot of new dubs are, though this might just be my ignorance talking since I don't watch many new dubs. Sometimes they dub over the songs (typically poorly by people that aren't singers) or just jarringly leave it in Japanese. I remember back with Gundam Seed's original dub they actually bothered dubbing Lacus' song into English which, in my opinion at least, is pretty good.
Yet, for the new dub they didn't even bother from what I've heard, just cut back to the Japanese version.

I don't know, the few times I've heard modern anime dubs they've just sounded pretty sterile if that makes sense. They might not be bad, but there's nothing that stand out and a lot of it just sounds samey. Sure, early dubs varied wildly in quality because there was way less standards and a lot of the people doing dubs weren't "anime voice actors" but rather whoever they could get there hands on so you'd get a mix of truly awful, so bad it's good, and actually decent it seems.

The anime adaptation of manga Girlfriend, Girlfriend (Kanojo mo Kanojo) is set to hit screens July 2.

That’s the word from the anime’s official website.

The series, about a guy who’s dating two girls, is directed and penned by the team behind The Quintessential Quintuplets: Satoshi Kuwabara and Keiichiro Ochi. It features character designs by Akiko Toyoda, and it’s animated at Tezuka Productions.

It’ll star Junya Enoki as Naoya Mukai, Ayane Sakura as Saki Saki, Azumi Waki as Nagisa Minase, Ayana Taketatsu as Rika Hoshizaki and Rie Takahashi as Shino Kiryu.

Here’s how Kodansha Comics describes the original manga by Hiroyuki:

Naoya just got a girlfriend, the gorgeous Saki-chan, and though their intensities often pit them against each other like ice and fire, they’re totally, uncontrollably in love with each other. He vows never to cheat…when out of the blue he receives another confession! Nagisa’s cute, sweet, and she’s made him lunch to boot! He knows he can’t cheat, but he can’t let a cutie like this get away…so he does the logical(?) thing: Asks Saki for permission to date them both! The confidence! The arrogance! The very gall! No matter the outcome, Naoya’s future will be lively!

The adaptation of Girlfriend, Girlfriend was first announced back in November.

What’s up with all the manga that I’ve read for the last couple of years now getting anime adaptations? I’m not complaining and all, but it’s pretty funny to me.

If anyone wants a somewhat spooky series to read I recommend I want to hold aono-kun so badly I could Die as I just re-read it myself with the new volume that just came out. Author's really good at drawing unsettling things even if it isn't as graphic as something like Junji Ito. Don't really want to spoil the story too much as the slow reveal on the mystery is part of the fun, but I will warn it's not a title to be reading while in public.

Series is also great for out of context humor.

Is that the old shoujo title? I remember trying to read it years and years ago but quickly dropping it because I couldn't stand the MC + ML came off as rapey. Mind you I only read like the first book, but nothing about what I read made me interested in continuing. Ended up reading Mars instead back then and enjoyed it even if it was messed up.

I remember reading this ages go and completely forgetting the title, been trying to find it actually. Neat.

Both versions are fantastic for different reasons. The 80s OVA is beautiful and really hits the theme of never being able to leave the battlefield. The TV remake still manages to nail those intense fight scenes and feels like it's more in-depth on the supporting characters which is great. It also has catchy trance music in the fight scenes (IIRC has some famous names from the early 00s) which works surprisingly well.

I predict this will be the next “nontroversy” anime Twitter screams about.

I always thought the mangaka of this manga's previous work would spark some since the main guy keeps hitting the main girl.
Luckily enough, it was pretty funny and the slapstick humor helped. There's some great jokes in that show.
This upcoming anime will be the fourth adaptation of his work. Not bad at all for a mangaka.

Read Ten Count in its entirety yesterday. Felt I had to make myself known with the source material, since ordered a figure of Kurose from the series. Anyway, still don't like fembois, but kinda felt bad for Shirotani and the manga didn't even touch the problem at its roots. He got a problem yea, but maybe Kurose should begin with his childhood trauma? Fits his sadistic side to never want him to actually get better, but it's odd of the mangaka to not bring it up.

It's a lacklustre manga, but good on them for having an actual story. Instead of only fuck & suck like every yaoi out there, even though it was a bit too much of it in this manga too. It's a bit confused, but there was an attempt.

Finished the Ghost Stories dub recently. Anime is shit, but dub is actually funny.
