The thing that always gets me is how much they misuse the defence of "Localization doesn't need to be 1:1!" due to it sometimes being the proper response to a dub change in limited cases. The only time I think it's a legitimate defence is when it's to do with a line that either won't translate well into English without a giant translation note or when it's a pop culture reference/joke/phrase/etc. that wouldn't make sense to viewers outside of Japan. In that case, I don't mind them replacing it with a similar English equivalent that conveys the same meaning.

In the case of Nagatoro's sus usage it would make sense to me if she was actually using that phrase or was using Japanese slang that has a similar meaning that might not make sense to English audiences. The Sk8 one doesn't fit into either category to me.

I think they get a complex about that due to people who bug them and say "Why don't you translate everything literally and put a giant translation note to explain things that don't translate?"

I can forgive the "sus" line in Nagatoro because even though it's blatantly forcing a meme it does make sense for teenagers to use slang variations of longer words.
That line seems to be the reason that a search of the Nagatoro anime on Nyaa shows such an insane amount of sub groups you'd think we're back in the late 00s where fansub groups were everywhere. Incredible.

They warn you not to use slang in writing since it dates your writing, and meme shit ends up dated insanely fast. A lot of manga like Nagatoro-san is meant to be ambiguous as to the date, so there's no reason to translate it with Current Year slang or memes. It's the same thing as seeing something like "talk to the hand" in a 90s dub or sub when there's a better translation.

I think I saw it in the weeb wars thread where some funi staff on twitter responding to someone criticizing their memespeak in dubs said something like "We have to appeal to a western audience when we localize" but in their typical arrogant fashion, to defend their usage of meme lines like "Yeet!" or "Chungus".

Is anyone watching Odd taxi? I picked it up not really knowing what to expect and it's definitely one of the more peculiar things airing this season. On the surface it looks like a down to earth slice of life show with animal people and mystery elements but two episodes in and it's already starting to look like there's weird shit going on. It's possible the animal people aren't even really animals and the main character somehow started hallucinating everyone as animals after an accident.

Yea, it's fun. Better art style than Beaststar at least.

Koreans are really doing well over the past couple years of making the isekai genre not seem like complete shit. Survival Story of a Sword King has been really enjoyable.

I know it’s only been three years, but it speaks volumes that for me, these three fictional girls managed to make watching school life anime great again.

Instead of the isekai tropes, let’s add more school life/slice of life anime to the mix for the next few years.

I would like it if there were more college life anime along the lines of Yurumates and Golden Time, although Golden Time dragged from what I remember. Or following some of the lives of the teachers like in Gokusen where the main character is the daughter of a yakuza clan (but hides that fact from everyone) who's been hired to teach for a group of delinquents. Haven't seen Great Teacher Onizuka yet (I am so ashamed), but it's like the gender-swapped version of that from what I can tell.

I dunno, I guess I'm definitely feeling the fatigue from all the high school life and would like to see more adult characters forging paths for themselves, but also it would make any love scenes that happen that much less awkward 'cause then you're not watching high school students fuck. I know 16 is the age of consent in Japan, but still. I don't like how the only times I have to see adults actually go at it is through those short TV josei hentais which aren't all that good.

Eh, they tend to make japanese powerleveling wankery look decent and they jerk themselves off way too much so I tend to stay away from manhua that isn't villianess. I'll check this one out though.

I can recommend it. I'm mostly a shonen guy but Onizuka is such a great character that he carries the series hard. If it weren't for him injecting humor into everything it'd actually be a very serious drama about late 90s/early 2000s middle/high school problems. Instead it's a comedy about him fucking up everything out of his lust/greed/stupidity 90% of the time but pulling it out of a nosedive at the last second by suddenly being a good person.

The officially licensed anime/manga translator community is pure cancer. Like Zack Davisson, a KickVic supporter and conslut simp who believes his name needs to be on the cover of the manga he translates next to the original author and gets very pissed if you tell him otherwise. Or that one bitch wondering why everyone was so mad at the "big brudda" line. These people have zero skills in life aside from knowing enough Japanese to read a manga or a script and sucking the right dicks at CR or Funimation. They have zero skill as translators (despite their endless translation) and disgrace all the actually good translations of foreign works out there.

But at least they aren't the people who write the dubs, even if they'll simp for whales who do like Jamie Marchi.

At least shitty fansubs you just laughed at because the people who run them want to fuck with you.

I went into Uzaki-chan not knowing a thing about it aside from "big tit girl who triggers Twitter SJWs" and found it surprisingly good and the college setting refreshing from just another high school show. It felt more relateable to me than your average high school setting, I guess because Japanese high school is rather different than Western high school and Japanese college felt more like Western college.

It could be an untapped market. Maybe they'll make an adaption of the K-On college spinoff or something.

Odd Taxi? Is there any Offspring music? Do customers demand to be taken to the KFC that's only 60 metres away? Does Wolfman Jack say "It's time to make some Crazy Odd money!" in the intro?

I hope they make another season or an OVA for Takagi-san. Netflix could definitely make another season since they are really focusing on anime.

Katrina is that bitch, and she always pulls the same old shit on social media when it comes to translation. Long ass threads justifying a shitty job and using memes to drive the point home.

I miss GG and their, oddly decent, troll subs. Their Code Gayass and Gundam double L00L were the only subs to use for the years Sunrise decided to troll everyone. Also, the absolute massive butthurt they caused just by existing.

Adding onto my endless pile of animes while watching Gundam Zeta and Gundam Origin

Dorohedoro is something I watch here and there and it's just an absolute treat esp the OP's and ED's.

Jujutsu Kaisen is SURPRISNGLY good.
I wanted to start reading it when I found it in a store before the anime aired but I didn't have money but I started the anime recently and I was pleasantly surprised. The only reason I was a little deterred was from the idiots of the internet going "ItS bEtTeR nArUtO/ NaHRuTO CoDeD".
Like don't get me wrong, call me a normal fag but i'm super late to the Naruto party but I like Naruto so far (ep 88 as of rn) but the say jujutsu kaisen is better naruto just feels wrong?? I think the only reason people are saying that is because of the designs and that's it, or they're some kinda SJW types "down with sexist kishimoto" or some shit I dunno.
Like alright the characters look like "we got naruto at home" but to me it's nothing LIKE naruto. I'm doing the dub and i'm enjoying where it's going even if i'm on episode 5.

Also I started Redo of Healer since I saw it pop up in the thread a few times. Yea the plot is fucking stupid but like it's some weird train wreck you can't look away from. I don't hate it, I have the chance to just put it DOWN since i'm not super invested (i'm on ep 3 now) but like I just want to see what kinda whack ass shit happens if episode 2 is any indication of where the FUCK shit is going.

Also is chainsaw man worth looking into? The art look's really good.

Chainsawman is good imo, its a pretty fast read too. It has a second part coming out on Jump Plus soon, at some point.
I'd also reccomend looking at the bonus ovas for dorohedoro since it has some scenes that were skipped in the show.
On another topic, JJK is getting its prequel one shot turned into movie which is surprising. I thought they'd just skip it.

CSM is a pretty gritty manga. So if you can handle the hardcore grit. Then you'll love it.
