The best way I can describe Redo is that the main character purposefully sets up situations so he can get revenge in the most heinous way possible. Especially with rape.
I can’t exactly blame him for being so fucked ip given what happens to him, but yeah. He will set up scenarios to “test” the ones he wants to get revenge on to see if they’ll be better people, knowing full well they won’t.

So has anime been killed by the west yet?...

Sorry just...I have nothing to really add just looking for some negativity because people keep saying it's gonna happen.

If it gets killed, other Asian countries will revive it? Sorry. But if they did it wouldn’t be very ‘anime’, not something the West might like which might sound like a good thing, but it won’t be like what we recognize. It would be geared towards their own kind, or they might make it an opportunity to step all over Japan for WW2.

Other way around tbh, the Deadpool manga is the best selling Marvel comic of the year. Hell, Demon Slayer manga outsold the entire US Comicbook Industry.

Honestly, it really does seem like anime and manga are kicking the butts of Western entertainment nowadays, at least in terms of animation and graphic novels. Heck, just walking into a bookstore, I noticed how, while American comics had maybe one or two shelves, the manga area contained over triple that size.

And to think, at around the end of the 2000s and the start of the 2010s, people were saying that the anime and manga boom was over.

We could thank the "woke industrial complex" who invaded Marvel and DC with their "social justice" to piss off many readers who decided to read mangas instead. :story:

Redo is essentially like a pizza cutter, all edge and no point.

I understand the main character went through horrid shit but to try and use that as an excuse for his actions is absurd and just create a story where no one is likable.

At the very least the writing is so bad it becomes unintentionally hilarious but that's just me and I'm usually more tolerant of bad writing than most.

I think there is a hope by SJWs and their ilks that anime and manga will be "bought out" by the western overlords and be corrupted to suck just as much as western comics, but the western overlords don't really give a shit enough to do it. It's easier to occasionally buy a series that's popular and shit over it with a bad adaption that people will watch because it's on Netflix.

Anime is by the Japanese for the Japanese. This hasn't changed. Redo of Healer is basically 'Rape: The Anime'. They do not give a singular fuck. As long as the Blu-Rays sell, they don't care. They listen to people who buy the blu-rays, because that's where the money is. They don't care about streaming because it doesn't bring in cash. Merch, blu-rays, licensing, all that they care about. They don't give a shit about Westerners who just watch on the streaming service and buy nothing else.

Japan has its own fledgling SJW movement, but I don't know how successful it is.

The problem is that manga doesn't work like Western comics. The Western overlords are perfectly happy to license properties for massive cash for normies, the Japs are happy they get cash to do what they want, the Western Overlords don't have to bother with creating anything or listening to danger hair faggots who go to HR every time someone forgets their pronouns and the Japs don't have to cater to the West. Its a good relationship for the both of them, I don't really see that changing very much.

Honestly? They're absolutely destroying American comics. Comics cannot touch manga. Nobody is buying American comics. They rot on shelves. As @Xenomorphs Are Cute said, Demon Slayer alone, by itself, outsold the entire American comic book industry. Combined. Manga is stomping on comic book's faces and laughing. I don't know anyone who buys comics anymore except retarded fanboys who insist it will get better.

Western companies simply do not give a singular fuck or desire to compete with manga and basically have just admitted manga won and hire the cheapest talent they possibly can. There's no fucking way Marvel or DC comics makes a profit. Western companies are more likely to hire mangaka to use their characters than just buy up the manga industry, like the Deadpool manga, which fucking crushed Western comics and sold well in Japan.

Its more than just that. Lets say I'm a 13 or 14 year old who wants to read a comic. I go to the graphic novel section. Lets say I want to start with Batman. There's 45 graphic novels, completely out of order, X-Men omnibuses, all these characters disorganized to shit, years and storylines all over the place. Its confusing and they're expensive for the amount of pages they have because of the glossy colors. Meanwhile, I look over to the manga section, and its just Demon Slayer 1 2 3 4 5, or Hellsing 1 2 3 4 5. I know exactly where to start, and what I'm getting. Not to mention mangas are longer for basically the same price and I really don't give a shit about the glossy coloring and inking. Plus mangas have cool shit 13-14 year old males like, gore and fan service. Meanwhile, comics now seem relatively tame and boring.

Manga offers less confusion, more for your money, more variety (not just capeshit) and well drawn art and stories compared to the West which has been cutting down on that. Comics don't fucking stand a chance. Then you add the woke shit? Oh my fucking God. Which do you think a male teenager is going to pick up? Berserk 1 or Gay Captain America? Yeah. American comics don't stand a fucking chance in hell.

All Western comics function as IP farms and content so they don't lose the IP itself. And still, the movies have to rely on decades old characters and stories because no one wants a scrawny, LGBTBBQRTW+^& Captain America. Who the fuck is it even for? Its almost insulting to gay people as well, like Steve Rogers couldn't look the way he does and be gay. Its absolute fucking insanity. It is all self inserts of them and their friends and drama bullshit. Of course it isn't going to sell. They're not serious about writing stories and the editors don't give a fuck.

Just look at that disgusting creature who is allegedly Starfire's daughter (Starfire needs a paternity test because that fat bitch is adopted). A normie kid in the shadow of a superhero could be interesting, but again its just the author's self insert and "FUCK YOU DAD". What gets me is that the self insert is never the idealized version, its always identical. Even in fantasy, they can't imagine anything different. They HAVE to be identical, which is why they demand EXACT representation of everything, because their minds are so little and their imaginations so small they can't conceive of anything else. Even fucking Twilight's Bella, Stephanie Myers self-insert was a hot teenager with just her hair and eye color to resemble her. These people can't even do that. Who the fuck wants to buy that shit?

If it weren't for Disney and Warner Brothers, American comics would have been sold a long, long time ago. Most comic shops sell RPG stuff, manga, board games and Funcopops. There's this one shop near me that has one small wall dedicated to American comics and that is it. Basically the only thing American comics exist for is clickbait headlines and IP farms. That's why they hire the bottom of the fucking barrel and pay slave wages. The companies know they've lost. They just don't give enough of a fuck to invest in Western comics to compete.

I think they’re hoping China will buy it and they can convince them to change it. They either won’t or they would to take a shit in Japan.

I always find comparing manga to western comics more of a depressing task than anything because I feel there's a lot that they should take from manga but never do. Been reading comics as a change of pace from manga and it's made me realize that I was being far too judgemental of them based on my more childish "manga/anime is always way better" thoughts. Sure, there are a lot of dud series that I don't care for, but the same can be said for manga with the amount of garbage/average series put out. Both mediums you have to go digging for the stuff you like, though with comics it does seem to be having to look further back to find good stuff even if some of the newer stuff is enjoyable.

Japan and China hate each other with a passion. Due to their nasty history with each other. Japan will never sell out to China.

Japan is also a very conservative and nationalistic country with a homogenous culture and people. As such, It is very hard for outsiders to gain in roads into the their anime, gaming and manga industry.

In summary: Japan will be fine.

It’s just because American comics have so fucking little variety, it’s literally 95% capeshit.

With anime/manga, sure shonen/isekai might be the most popular at the moment, but if they’re not your thing, it’s SO fucking easy to find other genres you’ll enjoy.

Also, the one thing I’m just completely shocked that Marvel hasn’t copied is the entire anime business model where the anime is literally just an advertisement for the manga. You have literally the biggest pop culture franchise of the 2010’s that turned no-name heroes like Iron Man and the Guardians of the Galaxy into household names, and you DON’T fucking publish spin-offs and tie-ins and adaptations featuring the movie characters? How fucking braindead do you have to be to not capitalize on that?

Marvel is clearly allergic to success - they don’t want to make money, they want to proselytize and then complain about bigots when nobody buys their shit.

How has the new season been for shows? I haven't kept up with anything because I've been busy, but I'm wondering if anyone has any recs for hidden gems. I'm going to just say straight out that I have no interest in Mushoku Tensei, read a chunk of the series and I couldn't stand Rudy, so while the series might receive high praise I'm not watching it.

Probably just going to grab the first 3 episodes of the series I put on my plan to watch list and see what's good. Maybe I'll actually finish some of the series I've had on my "Currently watching" list for several years as well.

That is one of the big problems since that's all the big publishers would put out and even when they have characters that you could have a bit more non-superhero fun with that don't really use them. Like, DC has a pretty interesting roster of magic based characters that they could use to explore some weirder parts of the DC universe that either don't get used or are thrown in as side characters in generic capeshit.

It's so weird Marvel nowadays has largely stopped putting out cartoons of their popular works when they were big into it in the 80s/90s/00s with how much they put out. They'd do full adaptions of big arcs in the comics while exploring some weirder side arcs too. They even had some anime made of their big series that they just killed for some reason.

Same thing with DC even if they have started getting back into cartoons, though they always seem to be the edgy direct-to-video kind. I know they just announced a continuation for B:TAS for old school fans that I don't think anyone is actually looking forward to.

This part is really interesting because one of their big creators Jason Aaron that keeps getting series is super hated by both sides of the fandom, like sjws hate what he's done to characters like She-hulk for being sexist (which I actually agree with) and non-sjw also hate him for messing up She-hulk because he took the sexy out. He's also run the Phoenix force into the ground and messed up a lot of characters, much to the active criticism of readers, yet Marvel doesn't seem to care. I have seen like zero praise for the dude and he continues to put out an actually sexist comic, but probably because he's cheap Marvel looks the other way.

Really shows that for all their claims they don't actually give a crap about actually being woke and just use it as a defence or marketing pitch.

I think the issue here is twofold:
1. Disney doesn’t give a crap about Marvel comics. The MCU already prints an absolute fuckload of money, to the point that any revenue Marvel Comics could pull in if it were pushed to its full potential would be a drop in the ocean compared to the money they’re already making. For Disney, it’s simply not worth the effort micro-managing (or managing at all, apparently) Marvel Comics when they can make much greater returns elsewhere.
2. Marvel is run by faggy SJW’s who fancy themselves artistes and creatives, and people like that see financial success as equatable to being a sellout. They would rather “make a statement” than make something actually marketable, because they see that as “compromising on their artistic vision for the sake of DANG DIRTY CAPITALISM”.

Marvel Comics is basically kept alive by the fact that they’re so irrelevant that the amount of money they lose (and the amount of potential profits to be gained by pushing it to its potential) is so small that Disney literally doesn’t give a fuck what they do. After all, nobody actually reads comics, so it’s not like the dumb shit they get up to will affect the performance of the MCU, which is where the real money is.

The strange thing is that a lot of mangaka take inspiration from western pop culture, more so than vice versa from my experience, you see shows like Cowboy Bebop and Baccano and you can tell that a lot of care was put into making them work. Most comics on the other hand rarely if ever seem to do this other than many minor shout outs.

Slightly related as well but how many times have you seen a western show make an anime parody that was considered really well done? I remember Gumball and Regular Show making pretty damn good ones but those are the only ones I can think of from recent memory.

I don't think things will start shitting the bed anytime soon, but good luck trying to buy anything using the official streams if you don't want some shitty fuck translation that's purposely twisted to support an ideology.

Remember, people pay for Crunchyroll.
