My canceled/dead manga is Somali and the Forest Spirit. Best way to describe it would be a wholesome combination that excludes the questionable parts of Made in Abyss and If It's for My Daughter, I'd Even Defeat a Demon Lord. A forest spirit stumbles across a human girl, but in this world monsters took over the human realm either by killing, eating or enslaving them. Despite the forest spirit getting up in age (they only live to be 100 years of age) he decides to help this little girl named Somali to try and find her family or any other human while trying to keep her a secret from a world with malicious monsters and the spirit tries to learn empathy and parental care for the small child. Unfortunately, the series went on indefinite hiatus due to the author's poor health. We won't get a second season of the anime. It's bittersweet, but it's better than nothing. I was hoping it'd win best drama at the anime awards, but no luck. Even if those awards are meaningless, the series is great and deserves some more recognition.

Stuff like this and Log Horizon's new season give me the ever so slight hope No Game No Life will finally get a second season.

please....
We're all going to make it, brother.

The truly fun experience is those Hiatus that are broken by random chapters that make it hard to determine much. Black Lagoon is such a pain, especially how the author is inching Rock and Revy together at such a snails pace (even if they already practically act like they're dating). Such a great series that I feel will never get an actual conclusion.

Which reminds me that Hellsing author still hasn't finished Drifters either, don't really know why I expected anything different after seeing how long Hellsing took to actually get finished.

I've legit lost hope on some series getting another season, Shin Mazinger Z literally ends on a huge cliffhanger of Kouji thinking he'd beaten the big bad Dr.Hell only for Ankoku Daishogun to pop up in the very last episode. It was rumoured that was to lead into a Great Mazinger introduction since that's somewhat how it happened in the original with Mazinger Z being beaten by Daishogun with Great Mazinger being the one to actually defeat him, wanted to see how they'd pull off Great Mazinger in a possible season 2. *sigh* Closest to seeing that confrontation is the old Mazinkaiser OVA + Movie, but it's just not the same.

Stuff can still happen out of the blue like what happened with Fafner that caught everyone by surprise, nothing coming out of that franchise for years and now they're getting a bunch of movies after several new seasons.

Dunno if this is the right place to ask, but it did say Manga, hell feel free to PM me to prevent shitting the thread up, but does anyone know of some good places to read manga? A friend and I are looking for a place to read more up to date stuff, since well mangadex is more of the older translation stuff.

If anyone does want a good old finished manga, Pet Shop of Horrors is a goodie. It does start out as kind of creepy due to the earlier chapters, but then it kinda turns a little less about the pets and focus more on Leon Orcot the cop, his brother Chris, and Count D. Ngl, it's actually really good and I wish somebody would bring it back from the dead since there was only 4 episodes ever made of the anime. It was REALLY enjoyable actually.

Discotek's announcing new stuff. They have apparently cancelled their planned release of Project A-ko...

Because they found a 35mm master and will be restoring from it instead.

And Rose of Versailles will be coming on BluRay from them this April. I wonder if they'll decide to get the rights for, say, the live-action Jacques Demy adaptation and release that on BluRay too?

Mangakakalot's worked well for me, although it had several duplicated chapters of Yotsuba&! for some reason. They also seem to use the earliest scanlations so the text/typesetting/terminology/honorific usage can change from one chapter to the next.

Mangafox is pretty good too, but I think they delete fansubs when an official version is available, I'm not 100% sure on that and I might be confusing them with another scanlation site.

Anyone still following Goblin Slayer? I'm all caught up on the main story in the LN and have been waiting for the Year One stuff to trickle out in the manga and I really love how much more of an autist he is in his first year of adventuring

I hate how they're clearly going for the vaporwave look with their promos but their company logo looks like something out of the early 2000's with the graffiti bullshit.

Yeah, I've still read it whenever anyone uploads the latest chapters to nyaa. It's all fairly simple but still an enjoyable read.

They've already released a clip of Project A-Ko remastered directly from the film masters.

I think this will be the first time that there will have been a western home video release of Project A-Ko that was mastered from anything other than a Japanese Laserdisc.

I mainly use mangadex (with an account) and for any official releases I just torrent off of nyaa. If you're into webtoons Batoto is where all the official rips are posted.

Dear Brother
Holy Shit, I've wanted that series for so long by the old dvd release is super oop. Also glad they're mentioning that their license period for it is much short than normal with doubt they'll get it again, lets me know I need to pick it up as soon as I can. Wonder how tough it was to get in the first place.

I mostly just get by with Mangadex, although Jump stuff I just read on their site because it's there and the most recent chapters are not behind a paywall.

Ah, Discotek. From it's humble beginnings releasing movies such as the wildy offensive Ebola Syndrome, to now "fixing" the subtitles in efforts to not offend the anime troons. Funny that they didn't do a disclaimer ala Angel Cop or Lupin.

Maybe it sounds like they're saying you're censoring and politicizing it because that's exactly what you're doing? Changing the subtitles to be "more careful about gender and pronouns" is directly censoring not only the old subtitles but what the original creator intended for the scene as well.

I hope more people make a stink about it and they start to learn their lesson on this stuff ( :optimistic: ).
I'm so sick and tired of woke American companies bastardizing the medium with their bullshit identity politics.

That's what doesn't make any sense to me about sanitizing content. There could be an option to choose the original version along with the edited version. They should apply this to video games that have "problematic" content or just put a disclaimer in front of it. Justin responded and is using the excuse that Caleb Cook was harrassed by the My Hero Academia fans regarding a translation for pity:

I haven't seen the series yet, but I think I'll go ahead and get the Blu-Ray so I can watch it. The fact the license is on a strict time-limit is what's convincing me to get it while it's hot. The news about Grimm's Fairytales I think is pretty neat, though there's no mention the release date has been pushed back like with Project A-Ko.

Sgt. Frog is the most exciting one for me, which is funny because I haven't watched it, yet. It's huge and I'm a fucking procrastinator, so I haven't gotten around to checking it out like I did the abridged series (I don't even know if it's still online), but I've always wanted to watch it. I hear the dub is amazing, but FUNimation never finished it because the license expired or sales were low like it was with Kodocha. Discotek is run by a bunch of moral crusader faggots, but goddamn they've been on a roll rescuing titles. You're tearing me apart, Discotek!

When was the release date supposed to be? I don't think they'd even announced one. But they went ahead and did it - they actually found the masters. Maybe they did get to Disney.

They're also the only company that would only bother with stuff like this, is the thing. Few other companies would license the other two Tezuka Animerama films, much less find an English dub for one that was so lost I genuinely thought someone had made it up.

I don't care either way but any potential controversy could easily have been avoided by not virtue signalling about pronouns in the advertising and instead letting the small subset of anime fans who care about pronouns in magical genderbending romantic comedies* laud Discotek's pronoun use in their reviews.

* Yeah, I know, in this particular case, it wasn't so much "magical" as it was "alien resurrection technology that also reversed his gender because [reasons]".
