This show and Voltron basically awakened my loveboner for mecha in general. Pure high octane dumb robot action, love it to death and in my moment of weakness i sperged and bought the soul of chogokin GaoGaiGar figure.

The only other shows I'm on the fence of doing that for are Big O and Shin Getter. Luckily I've managed to stave the urges off for now but lord knows when they'll come back again.

Despite the Jojo part 4 movie(s?) being nonsensical plot-wise, the costume designs are on point and the stands actually didn’t look half bad. They somehow made the completely ridiculous clothes that Jojo characters wear actually fit in the real world, and they even did Jotaro’s hair/hat combo (doubly difficult because he wears his white costume in pt 4) in a way that doesn’t look stupid.

I've posted recommendations a couple times for the series I've enjoyed, but I always fear my posts would get too long since if I were to give full recs not tailored to someones specific tastes I'd rec everything I've give a 7+ (which is 309 series/movies/ovas atm since I'm pretty lax in my ratings). To narrow it down a bit I'll give 10 from each (Omitting Gundam) with a mix of series I really enjoyed to those I think are underrated, throw it all behinds separate spoilers to save space:
- Gatchaman Crowds (+ insight)-
- PROS: pretty interesting series that liked to delve into realistic societal issues with a fun cast of characters. Also features an amazing soundtrack.
- CONS: If you don't like Hajime as the protagonist you're not going to have as much fun, Tsubasa in the second season is super annoying. The Gatchaman stuff takes second stage so you aren't really going to get your superhero beating up a bunch of baddies fix.
- Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou-
- PROS: fun little SOL with a small but entertaining cast of characters, also has a cute love story thrown in. MC is also a pretty interesting guy to follow as he has a lot more character than a lot of guys in similar shows.
- CONS: Suffers from being an adaption of another work so nothing really happens or changes by the end of the anime, unlikely to get a season 2 where things actually progress.
- Africa no Salaryman -
- PROS: Basically just animated Japanese salaryman shitposting with everyone being animals.
- CONS: Basically just animated Japanese salaryman shitposting, humor isn't going to be for everyone since it's pretty mundane at times.
- Ao no Exorcist-
- PROS: Great animation due to Bones, personally I enjoyed the anime a lot more than what I read of the manga since it fleshed out the story more especially concerning Rin and stopped before his retarded brother starting becoming more of a focus. Really enjoyable anime only episodes which is rare.
- CONS: While I enjoyed the liberties taken I know a lot of people greatly dislike the series for that very reason, especially regarding the ending. It doesn't personally bother me that much, though I did find the ending overall meh the rest of the series is strong enough to make up for it.
- Knight's & Magic-
- PROS: One of the isekai I actually enjoy not only due to the awesome mecha, but the incredibly great cgi done by studio orange for the fights. Story is also not that bad.
- CONS: Does fall into some of the common isekai tropes of OP main character, but I ended up liking him anyway. Side cast while not that fleshed out is also decent, not much in the way of romantic interest since MC is very mechasexual. Story suffers from being an adaption of an ongoing LN so it speeds through some stuff and ends before a lot of interesting stuff, unlikely to get another season.
- Shin Getter Robo-
- PROS: It's a Getter series that you don't really need any previous knowledge of the series to enjoy, has some really great animation for the action scenes. Overall fun yet short series.
- CONS: Story is pretty forgettable and isn't very accurate to actual Getter as they play fast and loose with details.
- Bakemono no Ko (Movie)-
- PROS: Pretty decent Mamoru Hosoda film that tells a pretty touching story between "father and son" growing to appreciate each other. Great animation to boot.
- CONS: Isn't one of his best works, the main plot is kind of just decent outside of the father and son bonding scenes.
- Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale (Movie)-
- PROS: Fun to watch Kirito be actually awful for most of the movie since all his skills in game mean nothing when he's an out of shape nerd in real life. Also nice to see the main cast interact with each other, animation is also great especially for the fights. Story isn't too bad.
- CONS: It's still SAO, so if you have a burning hatred for the series don't bother since you won't enjoy it. While I don't think you need to watch all the stuff that came before it you might get lost as to who certain characters are or some story references.
- Young Black Jack -
- PROS: The series is a bunch of fun if you don't think to deeply about how strange it is, like Black Jack suddenly going to Vietnam then jumping to him being in America. Black Jack is great as a MC though still immature compared to him in the OVAs or Movie. The opening makes me burst out laughing every time I watch it.
- CONS: Its story is all over the place and it was definitely made with a fujo audience in mind if the opening didn't make it obvious enough. Final arc in particular is super weird and doesn't make a bunch of sense when you think about it, but I personally enjoyed how over the top the series got.
- Mikakunin de shinkoukei -
- PROS: Super cute series with an appealing cast of characters to carry the show. Humor was decent from what I remember. You've probably seen a parody MAD for the ending at some point.
- CONS: Somewhat forgettable and it's unlikely to get another season, don't watch if your not a fan of SOL.
- Uta no Prince-sama(No, this series isn't here as a joke) -
- PROS: Bizarre series that gets weirder the farther into the series you get, perfect show to watch with some friends after some drinks (Similar show is Dance with Devils in unintentional hilarity). Songs also aren't that bad along with the characters.
- CONS:
If you hate funIf you are only into more serious shows or can't get past its obvious otome game origins then you're not going to enjoy it.
- AKB0048 (both seasons) -
- PROS: A surprisingly great sci-fi series based around the AKB48 idol group that gets fairly dark at times and is definitely a writer given a lot of freedom outside of it having to be based around the idol group. Songs are also great.
- CONS: Unlikely to ever get another season and just kind of ends. The CGI on the idols dancing looks pretty bad at times. Does get dramatic at times.
- Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens -
- PROS: If you enjoyed Durararas large assembly cast all taking place in showing the underside of a particular city then you'll like this as it's more of the same. Characters are quite a fun bunch even if they all don't get much screen time.
- CONS: The central plot that ends the series is kind of meh in comparison to some of the earlier mini arcs and wasn't super memorable. It never really feels like there are high stakes since the series has an overall light-hearted tone as noted by every episode ending in a baseball match where you'll sometimes have the main cast having a game against some of the bad guys.
- Kemono no Souja Erin -
- PROS: Rare long fantasy series that spends a lot of time building up the world and its politics. Erin is a great protagonist who you follow as she matures from a child into an adult, secondary cast is also pretty decent. If you can find a high quality release of the series the art look amazing, especially with the background work.
- CONS: It's a kids show that's padded out compared to the LN or manga so it can get a bit dull at times and the humor is very childish at times. Also suffers from needing to pad the runtime and repeating information over and over again, also has two characters that didn't exist in the original that eat up runtime who are somewhat annoying.
- Planet With-
- PROS: Written by Mizukami, so if you like his manga you'll probably enjoy this. Cast is pretty enjoyable.
- CONS: Pretty short so it feels a little rushed at times, CGI is not the best during the fights.
- UN-GO-
- PROS: Very fun mystery series done by Bones, meaning great animation, worth a watch if you like yourself a good mystery/crime-solving series that has a hint of supernatural to it.
- CONS: Felt way too short and like it didn't even get started, it just kind of ended. Unlikely to be anymore released.
- Tenrou: Sirius the Jaeger -
- PROS: Glorious fights all in the unique set piece of 1930s Japan. Had a surprising amount of heart and the MC wasn't bad.
- CONS: Story is definitely its weakpoint along with the cast being pretty large but underdeveloped. Ending is okay.
- Skip Beat!-
- PROS: Classic romantic comedy featuring one of my all time favorite mc in Kyoko. Real treat to follow her and she makes her way through the entertainment business, has some great emotional moments.
- CONS: Early anime adaption of an ongoing series so it just kind of ends. Artstyle is a bit to get used to, especially the chins on all the guys making it hard to tell them apart sometimes (this is worse in the manga).
- Happy Sugar Life-
- PROS: One of the few series to actually make me feel dread/horror, Kana Hanazawa is absolutely amazing in this as Satou. Story also doesn't suffer from the usually problems of adaption as it feels complete at the end.
- CONS: If you don't enjoy disturbing stuff or can't enjoy following someone who does bad things (I read people dropping the series because of some stuff Satou does later on, if you've watched the series you know the specific scene).
- Kobato-
- PROS: CLAMP before they wanted everything connected, series is self-contained. Fairly emotional SOL episodic series. Also features one of my favorite songs from one of the more tearjerker episodes.
- CONS: The ending is just okay in my mind as I never really grew to like the male love interest. Last arc does feel a little rushed.
- Persona 3 Movie series(technically count even if I rated the last one 10) -
- PROS: Probably one of the best game to anime adaptions as they managed to condense it into just four movies. Really high production value with the whole thing, contains a lot of fan favorite moments to flesh out the cast. Their interpretation of MC's personality is probably the best I've seen for any of the persona game to anime adaptions because it makes sense.
- CONS: I have no idea how someone who hasn't played the game will enjoy this, a lot of my enjoyment came from having already played the game, so it might not be as good for someone new. It also isn't a 1:1 adaption and cuts most of the social link stuff for obvious reasons.
- Big Windup!-
- PROS: Sports anime with a strong focus on its characters, accomplishes the feat of having a large cast that feels fleshed out even if they all don't get main screen time. Has some surprisingly good animation and the matches can get quite intense feeling at times. Mihashi is a break from the typically MC pitcher and watching his relationship evolve with his team members is a treat to watch, especially in how he influences his catcher Abe.
- CONS: Like real baseball each match takes several episodes and due to this there's never really a tournament arc since I think it's only practice matches. While I really enjoyed Mihashi I can understand if his attitude could turn a lot of people off, he's quite whiny at times.
- Romeo X Juliet-
- PROS: Very interesting fantasy version of the play that fleshes it out a bit and makes you actually like the two central characters. One of the few where I'd only watch the dub as they add a little Shakespearean flare to the way they speak which fits the setting. Overall story is nice and features a great ost by Hitoshi Sakimoto.
- CONS: If you know anything about the play you already know how the series ends, if you aren't a fan of tragedy I'd avoid. Plot gets a little funky near the end but manages to stick the ending well enough.
- Gunsmith Cats-
- PROS: Fun buddy cop series of two gun obsessed women that remind me a lot of Kei and Yuri from Dirty Pair in their attitudes/dynamic. Great animation and even better action scenes, has a great car chase.
- CONS: It feels too short and you're just left wanting more that is unlikely to ever come. Very much has the feel of being a sneak peek to make you buy the manga.
- Tsuki ga Kirei-
- PROS: Realistic look at first time romance that manages to avoid a lot of the typical drama cliches found in similar romance series. Main couple are a treat to watch in their equal awkwardness and the series has a sweet ending (if you watch the ending credits for the last episode).
- CONS: Due to it being realistic you're going to cringe at times because awkward middle schoolers and their parents. While it does dodge some cliches it still has some of them which not everyone is going to enjoy.
- Priconne-
- PROS: Same director as Konosuba, you'll enjoy this series if you liked it as the humor is pretty similar. Managed to do a good adaption of silent protagonist by making Yuki basically retarded and babied by the rest of the cast, makes him very endearing and not feel like he's taking up screen time or barely there. Fits a surprising amount of the girls into the series.
- CONS: Kind of feels like not much is happening in the series as the main plot doesn't progress very far by the end of the series. They spend time trying to introduce as many of the girls as possible, but not everyone gets much past a passing cameo. If you didn't enjoy konosuba's comedy you might not like this one.
- Mushishi-
- PROS: Very immersive series that is all about the atmosphere and the weird situations Ginko finds himself in. Almost feels meditative at times.
- CONS: Not a series for everyone, many might find it very boring or feel like nothing is happening. Due to the episodic nature the quality of each episode fluctuates a lot and they range from forgettable to great.
- Twelve Kingdoms-
- PROS: Builds a super interesting fantasy world that feels very unique, a lot of time is spent into making it alive. Youko is also a great main character who goes through a lot of character growth over the series, especially during the first arc. Probably one of the best early isekai series.
- CONS: Early 2000s animation looks really bad at times. One of the biggest sufferers of early adaption of unfinished work as some plotlines take up a bunch of time going over and then go nowhere because they author hadn't written it's conclusion in the novel yet. Some arcs are a slog to get through, especially when the focus shifts from Youko.
- Princess Tutu-
- PROS: Badass magical girl series that has some truly intense fights all conveyed through ballet. Wonderfully unique world with a great cast of characters, does a great job of making sympathetic villains or just developing them all to be likeable in some way. Features one of my favorite couples and dubs too.
- CONS: If you don't like magical girl shows or find the idea of fights being through ballet weird you probably won't enjoy it. Starts off very episodic and takes a bit for the central plot to kick in, which is where I found the series became at its best.
- Binbougami ga! -
- PROS: Really great comedy series where both central characters are assholes towards each other and keep trying to fuck over the other. Lots of references to other series. Has a nice secondary cast for the two main characters to bounce off of and can get serious when it wants to. Features an early role by Kana Hanazawa where she was able to go a bit more wild.
- CONS: Adaption of a work that wasn't complete and the series just kind of ends, unlikely to get another season to cover the rest of the manga. The main plot of the series also doesn't go anywhere as it was only later in the manga that it did, if you want to read the complete story you'll have to read the manga (which is complete and good). If you don't enjoy the two central characters you're not going to like the series.
- Natsume Series-
- PROS: One of the best episodic series, even the overall meh episodes are still pretty good. It's great to watch Natsume develop as a character over the seasons and open up to people. Series has an overall therapeutic feel to it even if it'll emotional punch you in the gut every so often.
- CONS: Put it in the same category as Mushishi where it's either a series you like or you don't. The central plot that starts off the series doesn't really get much focus, story more focuses on Natsume's worries/struggles.
- Banana Fish-
- PROS: Great story with an equally great cast of characters. Villain actually feels like a threat and the central mystery is pretty interesting. The relationship between Ash and Eiji is well developed over the series. Knows how to punch you in the gut emotionally when it wants to and is a full adaption.
- CONS: Series drags in the middle and some people might find Eiji more annoying than endearing. Ending is painful.
- Valvrave-
- PROS: Masterpiece in unintentional comedy, lots of memorable moments.
- CONS: If you try to take the show serious it sucks and doesn't make much sense. Second season is actually bad from what I've heard, I was content with the first season and didn't need more.
- Yuru Camp-
- PROS: Reaches maximum levels of comfy and stays that way throughout. Music is top tier to go along with the great animation and lovable cast. Shares interesting information on camping with the audience when it needs to.
- CONS: Not really much of a plot if that bugs you. If you don't like the main cast you won't find it that good.
- Cross Ange-
- PROS: Unironically love this series. Highly entertaining with how bizarre the whole thing is. Ange is one of my favorite protagonists in how much she's an awful person who doesn't give a shit. Plot, while weird, was enjoyable and I actually loved the ending. Embryo was a great villain who made my skin crawl.
- CONS: Ange is annoying at the start before she gets her character development and I know a lot of people didn't like Tusk but I didn't mind him. The weirdness of the story might put people off.
- Eureka Seven-
- PROS: One of the best coming of age stories with a great central romance. Lots of really cool mecha fights. Pretty lovable cast even regarding the villains. Gets pretty dark at times. One of the best endings in anime and the series overall just had so much heart in it. Great OST as well.
- CONS: Slow series that takes a bit to get going. Renton is annoying at the start, but does develop over time. The stupid kids on the ship never get better and are always annoying, you just have to deal with them.
- Samurai Flamenco-
- PROS: One of the few series I'd consider truly an experience and as they like to put it on /a/ pure kino. Roller coaster ride of a series. Masayoshi and Gotou are both great main characters and I love their dynamic. Ending is a 10/10.
- CONS: Takes a while to get going and is just okay until then, you need to set aside time to marathon the thing in one sitting for best experience. Animation is legitimately awful at times.
- Yamato 2199-
- PROS: One of the best space operas out there. Features amazing animation and soundtrack. The central plot is great, but even the short side stories are great. Series gives me strong Star Trek vibes which I love.
- CONS: I can't really think of many outside of if you aren't a fan of sci-fi.
- Houseki no Kuni-
- PROS: Probably the best pure CGI series out there, features some truly impressive fights. Great adaption of the manga. Very compelling main plot and Phos is a very endearing MC.
- CONS: Being an adaption it just kind of ends, unknown if they'll be another. Series can be emotionally painful at times since the author gets enjoyment out of her characters and the audience suffering.
- Musekinin Kanchou Tylor -
- PROS: Pure enjoyment, Tylor is such a great main character to follow and the secondary cast is just as much fun. Opening gets you perfectly in the mood for watching it. Dub is really good and I'd recommend it just for Tylor's VA alone.
- CONS: Again, can't really think of much outside it not being enjoyable for people that hate sci-fi.
The manga based on this was actually pretty entertaining since it had more of a plot and had the MC demand seeing the panties of weirder and weirder girls, too bad it's on hiatus.

Yes, ran 99 episodes, and the protagonist didn't make it into space.
In the manga, he makes it up somewhere around volume 35. "Is accepted for astronaut training, gets mission four years later" may make it the most realistic depiction of spaceflight ever made.

Kinda of a spoiler. But yeah it was really good. Never got the hype behind Planetes, in fact I outright hated it.
Aside from it being retarded that we should all give up on space travel because some 3rd world countries are still 3rd world. It also sucked that the male protag hated his dad abandoning the family for space, so he then abandons his family for space and the female protag just accepts it and is left raising a child that won't know it's father for years. It fucking sucks. I'm not even a feminist and I felt that ending was bullshit.

I couldn't stand Happy Sugar Life when I watched it during the season it was airing. It just felt like edge for being edgy's sake and when I found out about that one guy who was also a sex weirdo, I became disinterested and stopped watching. Does the anime get any better?
Will keep in mind. Most of the manga I read nowadays is either on hiatus or cancelled.
I could not stand Elfen Lied either. It was just really edgy and stupid and I didn't like the way it had ended originally and the only redeeming quality it had was the opening. I heard the manga fixes some of the issues of the anime, do you know anything about this?

1) Diversity casting for Seras or Alucard
2) Fucking up Seras.
The problem is that its a movie and Seras doesn't really go full on vampire until basically the end of the series. I also just don't see how you can do Hellsing in two hours unless you're doing Cheddar, Northern Ireland and Assault on Hellsing and that's it. Because there's just no fucking way to fit all that in two hours. Unless he just goes into prequel territory, ending it at Cheddar with Seras. Because I think trying to fit all of it into a two hour chunk is a mistake. I'd probably just do Cheddar from the manga and a wholly original plot shortly before it so you can have some cool gun fu and Alucard moments. Or do Cheddar and have everything be 'in between' the events of the manga that are original. I'd never try for the entire manga unless it was a show. I'd think the guy that writes John Wick knows, but in this day and age, who knows.
I mean, I saw the set of the Netflix Cowboy Bebop show and oh my fucking God, I thought it was some shitty anime convention, no joke. Turns out it was them fucking filming it.

She's a hot blonde girl with huge tits, cant have that in current year (I only really noticed the trend due to videogames, all of the blondes were from Japanese games). Also wasn't she cannonically a virgin? I can't see them going with that, she would absolutely need to make some quip about having sex or something along those lines.
I am also betting she will be black, no way Netflix and co ignore black casting after BLM riots, it's the most bobvious group to virtue signal towards, I doubt they will be ballsy enough to turn Alucard black so it has to be Seras. Then agian they made L black so who knows.
On the bright side they already hate the Catholic Church, and nazis are white so they will absolutely ensure an all male, all white cast of villains so the characterw will match the anime/manga there.
Hellsing was never my thing, I watched it but wasn't a huge fan. Thank fuck. I feel for you guys. It seems like either your beloved anime/manga is ignored, or it gets ruined by Netflix adaptions.

I can see Seras being fucked up easily, either she will be black in the adaptation or won't be the focus of the diversity. The mercs seem more likely to be diversified and Integra will be safe since she is a dark skinned woman already.

I have no interest in the manga whatsoever after what I’ve heard about it. It does change some things but I don’t like any of them so, sorry, can’t help you there.
Also regarding the live action Hellsing: I had a huge “fuck no” reaction when I first heard about it last night. I doubt it’ll transition well and you just know they’re going to butcher the characters.

Satoshi Kon did an interview where to paraphrase him, once stated that the reason they are laughing so much while everything moves fast, is that surrealist like drama sticks to almost everything related to how the art of anime works.
When you mix comedy with pain and suffering, you get psychological trauma that forces the viewer to either sympathize with the characters, or laugh along with them while everything around you crumbles and falls apart.
All in all, best thing Satoshi did which made me wish if he could have pulled off more TV ideas to the mainstream entertainment in Japan.
