Mob Psycho 100 - Pretty much just OPM but better, in that the main character's struggles are actually front-and-center, unlike OPM where Saitama is pretty much a side character in his own manga. It also benefits from actually being finished and having a complete (...I think?) and consistent anime adaptation. Just go with the anime for this one, it's a pretty faithful adaptation of the manga and is pretty much a straight improvement.

There is more than enough content left in the Manga's story to make an entire third season, the defeat of the evil organization is not the last arc, or even second-to-last arc.

There also is a equally completed spin-off/sequel manga all about Reigen

Well Mob Psycho is technically mostly done as there are only 11 chapters left of the manga which could make for a third season but the second season did end off in a way that it could be fine without another season but it would be great if there is a season 3 since Mob Psycho 100 is honestly one of the best anime series out there especially with how they handle emotions and the power of friendship in a very nuanced way.

...oh really? I was somehow under the impression that the only thing left out was him confessing to whatshername and getting rejected. because I haven’t read the manga past the first couple arcs.

There is the giant brocoli arc(which also is the conclusion of the Psycho Helmet Cult plot), helping the president of the telepathy club contact aliens, and then the confession arc. There are also a few smaller stories besides those.

I thought it was already done after Mob finally does that thing he's been waiting on.

I’ll give the last 11 chapters a read, but from the summary these almost feel more like OVA material than something fit for a third season. It’s going to be hard to top season 2’s story with what seems to be a smattering of smaller stories that seem to mostly exist to follow up on earlier plot lines.

To be fair the confession arc is pretty major and I think it can serve to work in a short season and plus BONES can add some anime original content since Mob Psycho's anime original stuff is pretty good or expand on the source material

EDIT: Allegedly a Season 3 is actually in development

The new episode of TPN is peak WHY.
Why is half the episode still images panned slowly cutting out any impact they could have had? Why is the fire animated at full frame rate but the rest of the image is slowly panning still? Why do they reuse animations mere moments after they're first shown?

Why did Emma know right away that the explosion was Norman enacting his plan? Why is Norman attacking some bumfuck nowhere town and not the capital like in the manga?

Why did Norman run into town full of flesh hungry monsters just to stab a random child who would have died anyways?

This single line was good though. I like the Grandpa character they added this season and how he showed up again, even if they dragged the scene out too long and it lead into that silly silly last few seconds. Under different leadership this could have been a better part of a better show. At least the opening is good. Damn I love that opening. The music, the animation, the visual composition, good stuff. I'm genuinely still curious to see the last couple episodes too, I have no idea how they're going to resolve everything this fast.

Wait was this the episode that basically recreated the "MARTHA" moment from Batman v Superman?

I think it would be better to restart from the start, some characters and events that were omitted in the anime adaption become extremely important later on, and it would be hard to randomly insert them at a later point narratively, due to the circumstances surrounding them.
Yeah, you'd need a restart. Fuck, I'm going to re-read Deadman wonderland.
I'm gonna give another shout for Deadman Wonderland. It's got great art and a story that actually feels like it was mostly planned from the beginning, with an ending that more or less comes back full-circle on earlier plot points, which is honestly incredibly rare in manga. It's a shame that it's mostly been forgotten about due to its incomplete anime adaptation, and I doubt there's much of an incentive to make a new adaptation because it's a 10 year old manga without much of a fanbase left.

Prison school - It's really funny and can get surprisingly suspenseful at times, had me on the edge of my seat during a lot of moments. Despite its infamously bad ending, the first arc works as a standalone story so you can just stop reading there and be satisfied. Or just watch the anime, it only covers the first arc anyways.

Darker than Black - Sort of this atmospheric noir-inspired political thriller, dealing with the aftermath of an unexplained event that wipes South America off the map and leaves some people as superpowered psychopaths who must pay an arbitrary "price" to use their abilities, and the different governments and factions that use them as spies and assassins. Has a unique format where every two episodes is its own separate story that's pretty much just slow worldbuilding. First season can be enjoyed on its own, second season is a definite downgrade but not nearly as bad as it's made out to be as long as you watch the OVA's first, which bridge the timeskip between the seasons.

Ouran High School Host Club - Might seem like a weird suggestion amongst the rest of these titles, but I went in expecting a dumb gay slice of life (I wasn't aware of the episode-1 spoiler that's literally the premise of the show) and was surprised by how much I liked the characters. Later on it gets genuinely kinda tense and emotional. I think the anime is better because it's more concise, changes/removes some plot points from the manga I didn't really like, and has an anime-exclusive episode that actually adds to the story/characterization. The ending differs from the manga but honestly it's not bad.

Jagaaaaan - Probably the nichest pick on this list. It's basically Parasyte's premise crossed with Gantz' over-the-top edgy violence and sex. Granted, I had to drop it a while back because the scanlations dried up, but the parts I did read were pretty damn good. I hopped off at the end of a big arc, last I checked there were another 20-30 chapters available but I haven't gotten back into it yet.

Chainsawman - Does this count as mainstream? A seinen-bordering shonen that doesn't really follow the usual tropes. The finished "Part 1" is a self-contained story with a satisfying ending that can be enjoyed on its own, with a Part 2 releasing some time in the coming months. Getting an anime soon, which I hope will improve on the pacing and rough art that is sometimes an issue with the manga.

Hell's Paradise - Another shonen that toes the sienen line set in feudal Japan, where an expedition of prisoners and their assigned executioners are sent to a mysterious island to try to recover the elixir of immortality. The best part is that initial sense of danger and intrigue as they're trying to find out what's going on on this island, but unlike a lot of mysteries (hello AoT and TPN) the reveal for this one is actually handled fairly well. While I think the latter half does falter a bit, it manages to pull through for a pretty decent ending. The main cast is easily the best part, somehow they're all unique and likable, likely due in no small part to the actually-pretty-good official translation. Anime adaptation in the works, which I'm sure will add a lot because the monster designs - which look amazing by the way - lose a lot from being black-and-white, for possibly spoilerific reasons.

Record of Ragnorak - Literally just "Tournament Arc - The Manga" with heavily fictionalized historical figures facing off against gods. Great art and fights. Still pretty early in its run so we'll have to see how it turns out. But this kind of work isn't really trying to have a deep overarching story anyways, so who cares?

Madoka Magica - Is it overhyped? Yeah. But it's also actually pretty good.

Monogatari Series - You'll either love it or you'll hate it, but you should give it a shot either way. Literally the posterchild of dialogue-driven shows, so if that's not your thing stay away.

The series is fucking beautiful though. And you will need an encyclopedia on how to fucking watch it. Because they're all out of order. I loved this series, so I've actually went through it twice: Once in release order and once in chronological order. It is VERY dialogue heavy, but there is action and the characters are very pretty to look at with very minimalist background work.

While I’m certainly not gonna expect it to be good, Hellsing is also one of the few manga where a live-action adaptation isn’t an automatic trashfire. At the end of the day it’s an action-oriented over-the-top vampire story with a pretty straightforward plot that won’t hurt too much from cuts. Unlike a lot of other anime, nothing about its formula makes it inherently antithetical to a live action adaptation.

can we get some kind of list of animes we like?
Tatami galaxy - Lots of reading at first, but a great story with some great characters. Just watch it, the art takes some geting used to, but it's a 10/10 show.

Welcome to the NHK - Satou is a NEET who concludes that the reason he is a neet is due to a conspiracy by the NHK to make everyone into a hikikomoir, he meets a cute girl who offers him a contract to help him become a normal member of society. It's great, but the LN is much better, it's no spoiler but WttNHK starts with Satou talking to a fridge when dealing with the conspiracy stuff, this is not explaiend in any way and just put down to mental illness. In the LN it's due to him ordering drugs off the internet.

Kaiji - Guy needs to gamble his way out of debt to the yakuza. Art tkes some getting used to, but once you do you love the show.

Daily Lives of High School Boys - Actually a good comedy show.

Kaguya Sama - A good romcom, very cute and has some funny bits. Not sure how it will go as the manga is unfinished, but so far it's all good.

Perfect Blue - Thriller about an ex-idol ho has issues with her identity, mental health and a stalker. Some western director stole the idea of it and made a vastly inferior product. This is the best anime film ever made.

Mononoke - The first 2 episodes are the weakest and it is slightly nonsensical, but it's fucking beautiful.
Umibozu arc is probably my favourite.

5 centimeters per second - Made by the same director who made Your Name, only this is his best work. It's really fucking pretty, and it has more feels than any other anime.

Jin Roh - Post WW2 fascist Japan dealing with communist uprising, story is mainly on a guy who has PTSD after seeing a girl blow herself up in a sewer. It's little red riding hood, but with RWDS and machine guns.

Humanity Has Declined - Post apocalypic dark comedy where human birthrates have plummeted and humans are being replaced with faries. Episode quality varies, but overall I really liked it and am dissapointed there will never be a season 2. Island arc is best arc.

Deathnote - I don't care if it's edgy. Everyhting until a certain point was great, but then the author just kept going. Overall I still enjoyed it more than I hated it.

Space Brothers - Honestly I couldn't watch all of it, as the site I was using got taken down and I haven't really had the time recently. But This anime is/was great. It's about 2 brothers who see wht they beleive is a UFO and dream to become astronaughts. One of them does, the other does not and you follow him trying to catch up to his brother. It was really good.

Like someone in the comments said hopefully the next OVA focuses on their kids

That’s what all those training scenes were about
I just can't believe this series is still going. I guess it's popular enough in Japan to justify it.
I always liked Ryoko and Tenchi, and hate poly degeneracy, but as the series defined the genre and it's been going on for so long I guess it makes sense. I came around to thinking at the very least, he should marry both Ryoko and Aeka, since they seemed the most interested and Sasami was a child.

I dunno why Ryo-ohki though, that's pretty degenerate

I think Hellsing could work as a live action movie if it's handled well. Not going to hold my hopes up since most anime live action movies/series are horrible (only exceptions are mainly stuff made in Japan moreso Jojo and Death Note live action adaptations.), but if it's the John Wick writer I can possibly see it working with all the gun fu in Hellsing. Of course we just have to wait and see what they do, especially with casting.
