I remember reading the Urusei Yatsura omnibuses a while back. Funny thing is, I actually forgot how many volumes there were for that one. I’m still waiting for how many omnibus releases there will be for Maison Ikkoku.

There's a weird moment where the characters vow to defend 'heteronormative standards' by breaking up a date between Ryunosuke and Ran. "Heteronormative" is such a 2000s phase I can't help but how badly the translation has been mangled by modern sensibilities.
Yeah you see that in some translations nowadays

Chainsaw Man is a recent thing but I don't recall the fan translation using the phrase "social justice" here.

Chapter 11. Oh and in chapter 15 they use the phrase "sex worker" instead of prostitute. I never hear people use that term outside of the internet. Other than that the official volume translation is mostly fine. Slightly awkward in places but reads well enough.
That does sound a lot like Viz tbh. I read the Mangastream version for these & I never seen these then. This is one of the reasons I loved the Mangastream version more, it didn't feel toned down, & matches the sheer insanity of the story better than Viz. Viz fucked it up.

Viz is pozzed and crawling with sex pests, no surprises here. I'd like to stop buying new Viz releases after Urusei Yatsura finishes up, but One Piece is still going. *sigh*

Sailor Moon was my very first anime I watched when I was a kid and I've got a lot of nostalgia for it, along with Digimon and Cardcaptors.

That's part of why I've been using Sailor Mercury as my avatar lately and the other part is semi-related to the GameStop stock market insanity.

So yeah, what are some old-school anime and manga (before 2007) that you like a lot?

Sailor Moon, DBZ, Pokemon, and Digimon were my first 4. That were aimed at kids.

Back when I was around 5-6, SciFi channel would occasionally air anime and me and my dad watched SciFi a lot. The first anime I ever saw was an OVA called Roujin Z. Basically some old dude gets hooked into some machine with an AI to care for the elderly. He just wants to go to the beach, machine goes on a rampage to get him there.

Unsurprisingly, it's commentary on Japan's aging population and how the elderly are treated. I didn't really get that part at the time and I had fuzzy memories of it for years. I didn't find out what it was until 18 years later.

Going back to kids/shonen stuff, I also really liked Gundam Wing, G Gundam, Cardcaptors, and Monster Rancher.

This has been happening in manga localization/translation for a while now. When the light novel "JKハルは異世界で娼婦になった" got released here, it was translated as "Haru is a sex worker in another world." They didn't want to use prostitute in the title. There was Viz release of "Not Your Idol" was under critique since it was called "Goodbye Miniskirt" and the localization leaned heavily on the me too bullshit instead of being faithful. I wonder if Viz is going to fuck up the Fist of the North Star series. I like Danganronpa, but it's younger fanbase is annoying. Even the manga got sanitized when it was talking about Chihiro. I'm sick of these people working on manga.

I really liked the Nuku Nuku ova series. I worked my ass off an entire summer as a kid, just to order the VHS tape. Devil Hunter Yohko as well. The Slayers anime was also around and really enjoyable. There was a television station from Indiana, channel 63, that I would be able to tune into and they'd show a lot of the Streamline Pictures films and instead of censoring, they would pixelate the entire screen when things got too gory or sexy. That really amused me.

And people said anime/manga would never get pozzed. At least it's not at the source. Yet.

Azumanga Daioh is still the best Slice of Life/CGDCT anime out there and nothing comes close to it.

Osaka is just neat.

I'm a big fan of old school anime if you count 90's as old school. One series I have great nostalgia for is Gokudo (also known as Gokudo-kun Manyuuki). Much like Slayers, it's a parody of the fantasy genre and is generally very humorous.

Outlaw Star is another one of my favorites, and I just got around to finally finishing it last summer. The animation was top notch for most of the episodes, and I loved the way it ended.

I have the same nostalgia for Sailor Moon, still one of my favorite anime to this day. I also like the original Fullmetal Alchemist, Trigun, the original Hellsing, the original Fruits Basket and Elfen Lied.

I still say Slayers is pretty good, even if people disagree. Also AIKa and Najica Blitz Tactics are pretty great, too (thanks @Dom Cruise for the recommendation!)

There will always be fan translations. Always.
Biggest source of drama always arises from those.

You have fucking Jet/Nova fags who treat the Japanese Language as if it's something to be put on a pedestal and worshipped. They don't realize that language itself is a means to an end, because it's real purpose is supposed to convey the actual important information to the reader. So they always wind up doing ultra literal translations and it always comes off as stilted or unrealistic. it would be like translating Zootopia and having it sound like Old English. They also have their heads up their own asses and can somehow never be wrong which always leads to fights if you have one or more of them in the room.

They really do come off the same way libtards treat black people as some mysterious force that only they can divine because that have humanities degree and are the only ones who can shove people into boxes, because their pre judgements are somehow more valid than anyone else's.

Summertime Rendering and Jigokuroku are both getting anime adaptions. Both are around 6/7 out of ten, with the latter half not being as great, but they're a fine watch imo.

Goblin Slayer is getting a s2, too.
