One of the new original series airing in the winter season Back Arrow released a new trailer for it a couple days ago.
It has Goro Taniguchi directing and Kazuki Nakashima writing. The suit designs really remind me of Tekkaman Blade and from what's been shown I'll probably be checking it out. Cautiously optimistic about it being okay and it also might be 2 cour.

/m/ seems to be thinking it'll be a cross between Tekkaman Blade, Gun X Sword, and Scryed with Cowboys fighting Chinese Nobles.
Recently I watched Fate/Apocrypha and it is surprisingly a good anime. I went into it knowing that it was quite hated particularly for the bland main character and the romance of it. However, the show is pretty good with a lot of great characters, and some pretty amazing fight scenes (best is Chiron vs Achilles but the second best is Karna vs Sieg). I am amazed how well animated it is and a lot of the characters are surprisingly great. That said it does have some issues, but a lot of positives I want to point out:

1. The romance is really dumb, and unnecessary. Sieg x Jeanne could've worked but it felt rushed and no proper time to develop them. I am usually against woke sort of stuff but Sieg x Astolfo would've worked better if they needed a romance because they had stronger chemistry together than the actual romantic couple. It is just Jeanne falling head over heels over this homunculus because he showed acts of bravery despite his condition which is fine but feels strange. It doesn't help all of her romantic scenes with Seig were the most cringeworthy moments of the show that I wanted to skip them. The romance really felt hamfisted and it tried to emulate the Shirou and Saber romance which was done much better and had more build up to it in comparison to Sieg and Jeanne.

2. The main villain, Amakusa Shirou, is terrible. His plan is really short-sighted and the show goes out of it's way to make you think the story is morally grey with this altruistic plan which in reality will halt human development. Honestly, Darnic, the main villain from the first half of the show, would've made a more interesting main villain given his degree of competency, planning, and being more intimidating with a more straightforward goal (at least for Fate anyway). Amakusa also was really boring as his calm and collected demeanor bordered on pretentious and was grating how he was not that interesting to watch. It didn't help none of the characters had good reasons to call him out to make his plan look good when in reality there were many arguments for why it was stupid that the show never bothered to use. The only thing I like about him is his relationship with his servant which even then felt kinda stretched.

3. The potential was kinda squandered. I could see why people didn't like this anime much given the premise of a team based grail war could be cool, but the Red team's set of masters has no characterization and are more of a plot device (besides two, one of which being the main villain and the other being a really cool character) while two members of the Black Team were pretty flat.

4. Astolfo's master is probably being the most incompetent and idiotic master in all of fate that they'd make Shinji from FSN look like the most competent master ever by treating her servant like a literal sex toy over actually trying to win in the grail war, barely even using him for battle (in fact all of his fights were done not because she ordered him to fight) and the only time she did was after using her last command seal to force him to kill Sieg because Astolfo is friendlier with Sieg than with her. Like Jesus Christ and this woman is supposedly a competent magus yet acts like /r9k/ personified if they were a busty woman.

5. While I personally find Sieg to be an okay character, he really shouldn't have been the central main character. It would've been fine if the story had no central main character given the huge cast, but Sieg was pretty generic and honestly felt pretty generic. It didn't help that the show talks about how cool and amazing he is despite being pretty standard as a guy beyond his homunculus status and his powers weren't really interesting as he was just given Siegfried's powers (which made sense in the context of the story so it worked) and Frankenstein's powers (though him having the latter's powers was a major stretch and it felt more like to give closure to the master of Frankenstein).

To talk about the great things I'll start with the characters. The characters were pretty cool and had varying degrees of depth to them. One in particular that was surprising was Gordes (Siegfried's master and a fat fuck) who could've easily been an irredeemable scumbag but he is a pretty cool guy who just has a bad attitude and is generally well meaning. The Red Saber Team was also great as Mordred and Kairi were really cool and had a lot of cool scenes together from being badasses to having some nice interactions that can be funny or rather touching. The other black team masters were great as well barring Avicebron's master and the dumb bitch I mentioned earlier with Fiore and her brother being good characters who had nice relationships with their servants, Darnic was an intimidating villain who was pretty smart but then went full batshit crazy which was fun, and Jack's master was a nice maternal figure to her servant and they were quite touching for a prostitute with a serial killer servant. Sieg was okay.

The servants really stole the spotlight as all were varying degrees of interesting with some making more interested in learning more about them (those being Astolfo, Jack the Ripper, Mordred though Arthurian Legends interested me prior, Karna, Chiron, Achilles, Atalanta, and Vlad the Impaler) and all were pretty entertaining with the exception of probably Amakusa. Shakespeare however stole the show and was perhaps the most entertaining character since he was just that one guy in the background eating popcorn while everything was going to shit.

The fights themselves varied, they were pretty meh at the start with the exception being Fiore and Chiron fighting Mordred and Kairi along with the fight against Dracula which was cool. I think the endgame fights starting with Jack the Ripper onward were really great but took a steep fall with the final fight of Amakusa fighting Sieg which was not really fun as it was quite rushed and neither character I was fully invested in given I knew Sieg would win and Amakusa was a shit villain. So the investment was low, and the ending was just pretty decent.

Overall, Fate/Apocrypha was a pretty good anime to watch even if it had some glaring issues with it. I wouldn't recommend this anime for people getting into Fate as it would be better recommended to start with Stay/Night, but if you are a Fate fan I'd recommend checking it out. I would give it about a 7/10 if I had to place a numerical score.
I've been meaning to watch through apocrypha, but like you mentioned near the end I probably need to watch through stay/night first (I've done the weird thing of avoiding the main series and instead watched stuff like the Illya spin-off and picked up f/go). Though, one of the out of context things I've seen shared around was the fight between Karna and Sieg as it being top tier best fight animation but I really didn't like it. If I were to put it into words it's too "style over substance" for my liking and the non-stop high action lessens the overall impact, fight scenes need nice lulls in action to properly build up impact. It also felt like it was missing proper "weight" on the impacts so there was never any moments where I'd go "Hell yeah" at an attack landing, it just fell into beam spam tier where you just start to zone out. I'll say the effects are really nice at least, but there's nothing else that really impressed me. Also, personal dislike of mine was how weird the two looked throughout the whole thing.

By comparison, back when crunchyroll was doing one its garbage awards they had a category for best fight or something similar and one of the ones nominated was a fight from Boruto. I decided to check that one out after people complained it should have won over Hero aca and greatly enjoyed watching the thing. It left me impressed while the Karna vs. Sieg fight left me feeling pretty meh. Maybe it's just me looking for specific things in fights, but the apocrypha fight was the exact opposite of what I typically enjoy.

I think the reason the Karna vs Sieg fight was hyped up was because it was done by newbie animators and for the style of it. Honestly I found Chiron vs Achilles to be a better fight since the blows each of them gave were really brutal and had some impact. The story context also works since it's a teacher fighting his student, which is a basic trope but still works quite well and the fight had a lot of weight to it in terms of emotional weight for the characters as well as like I said, how each attack felt like there was some impact to it since you see how each get damaged.

Honestly with FSN, ideally I'd recommend the Visual novel since it has everything, but the anime is also quite serviceable even if the three routes are different with the first route animated by studio DEEN which had weird filler in it and was a so-so adaptation till the end, UBW trying to jam connections to Fate/Zero because the director was a hack, and Heaven's Feel being three 2 hour movies that cut a good amount of content.

She treated it like a dumb sex comedy, especially with the all the adult alliteration and stupid jokes/puns. Then there's the whole thing about Crim's gender, despite having both a penis and vagina. https://archive.ph/O41kE
Well, it is a dumb sex comedy, there's no need to look for Deep Meanings, Allusions and Metaphors in Reviewers.

Also, localized subs and dubs are better, especially well edited ones, fight me :3
And there are no non-translatable puns or words, there is just either lack of time or translator's laziness, or both.

I've found for visual novels I have a hard time playing them on stuff like computers, much prefer using my vita for them. It's weird I know, but at least with my vita I can lounge in bed or really play anywhere, I start getting antsy sitting for too long. Might see if I can find some portable options for the game or I might just give up and play the VN in short bursts.

It's definitely this site and he's still defending localized subs thate are just as bad as some fansubs were in the early days. Here's the screenshot:View attachment 1755784

It's worth it to learn Japanese just so you can avoid these shitty translations. Trust me, I know from experience. One year to get to the point where you can read/watch stuff raw reasonably comfortably, 3-4 years to fluency. Go for it.
Can confirm. (Although I have the 'tism so I still need subs - Japanese ones.)

---
Are they still going on about Nii-nii? Goddamnit, Nora Gal is spinning in her grave. The obviously correct translation is "Big Bro." Colloquialism, same cadence / rhythm, same letter pattern, same alliteration. Suggests dependability on part of the "bro", suggests boyishness on part of the speaker, neither connotation is out of place. "Brudder" suggests a speech impediment (which the speaker doesn't have) and has "udder" in it, like wut.

BigOnAnime is someone that posts quite frequently over at the anime section on Blu-ray.com and they've always seem to be pretty knowledgeable there, at least regarding the going ons of the western anime market. I think the issue at hand is just different opinions on "proper" subbing regarding how much should or shouldn't be localized, an issue that always comes up regarding official vs. fan translations. From reading their points I think they're of the mind that as much as possible things should be translated into English rather than leave in Japanese words unless a word doesn't have a close enough English counterpart (at least this is what I'm guessing). Personally, I'm also somewhat of this mind because when taken to the extreme you get crap like this (Sadly couldn't find the "ONORE PRIME" specific screenshot I was thinking of :( ).
7DvWRdx.jpeg

An issue that can be brought up is poor selection of an English equivalent, which I think might be the bigger sticking point for me when this kind of stuff happens. I don't really like the nii nii = Brudder thing because it doesn't sound like the best pick and I think there are better choices. I remember watching Dororo and getting upset that the subs didn't bother to even try when Dororo started referring to Hyakki as Aniki and just had the subs say Hyakkimaru instead. In that case I'd also call the subs bad because they didn't even bother trying to localize it. There's also the ever present debate around keeping stuff like -san, -kun, -sama, or not when bringing things over which is always a headache for everyone. I still get annoyed thinking about how they localized Naofumi-sama as Mr. Naofumi in the shield hero manga.

Also, it's a small thing but it still somewhat bugs me that in one of the tweets I think they reference Noobsubs for their poor subs but I'm pretty sure they're simply a re-encoder/batch release group. I don't think they actually do any of their own subs and just take whatever they can, like if I look at their latest release it's F91 but for subs they have [EG], [OZC] listed which most likely means they just ripped the subs from those two groups older releases and put them together. It's still a ding on them for using poor subs but it might have been the only subs they had to work with at the time.

Do people even still complain about Geneon in 2020? It seems about as relevant to today's industry as complaining about Streamline or Carl Macek. I'm sure there were imperfections in some Geneon releases but they've been out of the North American anime distribution business for, what? At least a decade now, I think, and Geneon isn't even a company that exists in Japan anymore since they were bought out by NBCUniversal.

I can think of a couple of minor issues I've had with Geneon releases such as easily-visible macroblocking artifacts during the ED for Kamichu! (an ending sequence that really only had a small part of the screen animated) but it's not something I hold a grudge against Geneon for and I'm still glad they brought us some niche-ier titles like Kamichu! and Strawberry Marshmallow.

It's nothing like my current grudge against Funimation for producing sub-par Blu-Rays that won't play properly on my standalone Toshiba Blu-Ray player (even after I updated the firmware), forcing me to watch them on the Playstation 4 instead.

Onee-chan means sister, but I'm used to poor translations that I knew what you were going for. If you like meme-tier "shoot your goo, my dude" subtitles, then by all means go ahead. No need to be a okama about it. Troma had something to do with that Totoro dub, right? It was pretty good from what I recall.

If you like meme-tier "shoot your goo, my dude" subtitles, then by all means go ahead.

Shoot your goo my dude is not even a meme-tier, but probably more accurate translation than most N3 weebs are willing to admit. In the end we all be watching mostly the jap equivalent of my little pony and occasionally south park.

The only good meme subs were from Irrational Typesetting Wizardry for Noucome.

Troma had something to do with that Totoro dub, right? It was pretty good from what I recall.

Streamline produced the original My Neighbor Totoro dub for Japan Airlines in 1989, which was the only way to watch it in English (VHS fansubs excluded) for four years. Troma, under its 50th Street Pictures banner, distributed that dub theatrically in limited release in 1993 (at least according to Wikipedia; Kotaku claims it never got a theatrical release, I don't remember Totoro playing in Montreal in 1993 but I didn't know to look out for it either), and then Fox picked up the rights for home video in 1994.

The unfortunate part here is that FSN does have a vita port for both the original game and the sequel, but of course they're japanese only. Yeah somehow even though the entire franchise prints money and most of the spinoff games have gotten official translations, the original VNs still never have. Part of me wonders if it's because they know most people played the fanpatch already and no one would buy it, but if Muv-luv is any indication I think there'd still be people out there supporting a popular VN's official release.

I haven't been watching the OVAs but is (that?) Tenchi now married to all of them like he supposedly canonically does?

They never mention it, only clue we get:

Maybe they will in a future episode? But I thought that in the previous episode The selfish wish he hinted at was gonna be him proposing to all the girls around him. Maybe he did then had an orgy?

Made it up to ch 49 in A Trail of Blood.

Jesus Christ those last three chapters were fucking heartbreaking.

Poor kid just kissed a girl he was running away with, creamed his underwear accidentally, then his crazy ass mom shifts through his dirty laundry after he took a bath when he finally caved in and returned home and questioned him over it.

The way she really dug into him and asked him very personal questions while he tried to explain through tears and stuttering. Only for her to throw his underwear onto his head, scream at him and throw him out of the house only for her to force him to promise to hate everyone else besides her and to never see that girl again.

There's just something about having one of your parents attack you over a very vulnerable and awkward moment during the most vulnerable and confusing time in your life that just deeply unsettles me. Especially considering this same woman gaslit her son over what happened to his cousin just a few minutes before this exchange and had her hug him.

Read this manga guys, it is really something else.

I keep forgetting that I want to buy all the special omnibus manga editions for BLAME! It looks like I’ll either have to wait until 2021, or see if there’s any online stores that have a sale that’s affordable.

Finish Sexy Commando Gaiden, pleb. You need to balance out the moeblobs some more.

Fun fact: KareKano referenced Penicillin's "Romance", which is Sexy Commando Gaiden's OP. Probably just a huge coincidink, though.
