A question. Are there any anime that have recently released that have been in the vein of SAO, Overlord, Log Horizon, And you thought there was never a girl online, etc? For some reason I have a real soft spot for those types of anime. Probably because I've played so many MMO's. So it's quite relatable.

how long do these types of comics last? is it going to be 10 years of guy meets girl or will they get hitched in a year or so?

I bought the Gits: SAC DVD collection after reading how messed up the blu-ray release was from reviews. I'd say any older series that had a memorable dub that gets a later blu ray release that doesn't include it would count, something I worry is going to happen with the upcoming eva release.

anything Manga entertainment that was then bought by someother company. Patlabor suffers from the newer dubs.

"Is It Wrong To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon" reminded be a lot of SAO, I dropped it but you might like it, I think it's on it's third season now. There's also Shield Hero which I liked a chunk of and "That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime" which is pretty fun plus it's getting a second season soon.

Was this talked about before?
It's seem that Hayao Miyazaki, retired and picking up trash from the street does not care over the fact that his 'Spirited Away' box office record has been overtaking by the 'demon slayer' movie

quoting Miyazaki on the yahoo japan news site
"I don't watch it. I don't watch TV, I don't watch movies. I'm a retired garbage man who picks up trash. It doesn't matter. The world has always been inflated. (But) we need to pick up the trash."

I guess the meme was real after all

Its kind if surprising to me that a movie you're supposed to watch 25 episodes of a season before hand got so popular. I'd guess its the "traditional" flavor of it? For better or worse, its as quintessentially "shounen" as you can get. Or maybe its horny women, or covid making it basically the only movie you can see. Maybe its the fact that its Ufotable, I don't know. I do personally like it, but I don't get why its this popular.

I do think its funny that Miyazaki and Shinkai are getting btfo by what's essentially a five episode arc where a couple of the characters are asleep most of the time though.

I just know that there’s some amazing animation to the fight scenes in the series. Also it was a fairly short shonen manga overall.

It's a combination of all of this. The anime adaption was extremely popular and made the manga sell like crazy to the point that it beat One Piece in total volume sales for the first time in over like 10 years. It appeals to women with cute boys and it appeals to new and old shonen fans alike by being a pretty well executed shonen, I'm a complete shonenfag myself and I think it's pretty good. The only thing that pisses me off is that 2019 was imo the best year for anime since like 06 and 07 but people only really gave a fuck about Demon Slayer and nobody fucking watched Vinland Saga, also Mob Psycho 100 S2 actualyl had better animation than Demon Slayer but nobody talked about that either lmao.

If you don't mind literal chinese cartoons there's The King's Avatar series which is surprisingly good, mainly focuses on a veteran player starting over with a smurf account after he gets forced out of his pro team. There's also Net-juu no Susume which focuses on a NEET girl pretending to be a guy online and falling in love with one of her guild mates who's a guy pretending to be a girl. If you don't mind older shows there's also .Hack// Sign though it does end off in a cliff as it was trying to hype up the game series.

I also rather enjoyed Infinite Dendrogram but that's based around the LN, I've heard the anime is no where near as good and not worth it. If you don't mind LN reading I'd recommend checking it out as it's built quite an interesting world and I really enjoyed Ray as a protagonist (If I were to describe one of his defining traits it's "suffers from success"). Basic premise is Ray gets invited to play a vrmmo where each player at the start gets an Embryo companion that differs for each person based on various reasons, Ray gets a rare human embryo pictured as the girl below. There's actually an in game reason as to why people with human embryos are so rare, personally I wouldn't put it as a good thing given what Ray has to go through due to it. Side cast is also full of some pretty colorful individuals.

There's also a manga drawn by the Needless author which I haven't read myself but thought to point out.

Mob Psycho 100 S2 actualyl had better animation than Demon Slayer but nobody talked about that either lmao.
I think part of the reason for the great animation, beyond the simplistic designs making it easier to go ham, was that Bones seems to have really liked the series making them put in a bunch of extra work they probably didn't even have to do. It's already widely known their strong lust for Reigen but I think the series as a whole was very well liked at Bones.

My search involved two main things: action with extreme violence and depressing stuff.
I know Hokuto no Ken is one of them, and i love it; the manga involved uncensored finishers and near every main character besides Kenshiro dies.
I'm looking for something like that, a great story mixed with strong feelings.
Any suggestions about something near of the explained will be useful.
Obligatory mention of Berserk, which is the king of depressing ultra violence anime, although it slowly becomes edgy adult One Piece.
There are a couple Berserk like series that did alright like Claymore, but I can't really recommend it because it came out infrequently and the story was dense and for plot reasons all the characters looked very similar and I lost the plot at some point and never got it back.
Deadman Wonderland was alright, but the anime aborted after one season so you have to read the manga to finish it. It's about a teenager framed for his class getting pulped and gets sent to a Superjail/Theme Park where people have to do work for drugs to avoid dying and he gets caught up in Fight Club with people who have the ability to control their blood.
The various Devilman and Devilman spinoffs sound like what you're looking for, about people who can turn into cannibalistic sex crazed monsters getting into fights with one another, usually with a person that has the same transformation but keeps their humanity.
I keep meaning to rewatch Soultaker which has strong Devilman roots. It's about a rich kid who dies but then resurrects as a powerful mutant and finds himself at war with the mutants belonging to a hospital his parents run.
Fire Punch is worth reading, It's about a frozen wasteland future where a guy with regeneration powers feeds his village his severed limbs so they don't starve and gets caught by the local fascists who kill his village with mutant powered fire that never extinguishes. He goes on a revenge plot after he permanently catches on fire and eventually manages to get over the perpetual burning enough to stop screaming. Ends kind of weird
Chainsaw Man is by Fire Punch guy and is basically Devilman except the main character was a hobo orphan before he got his transformation and just wants to live in a slice of life anime with his best girls but can't. Manga only, but IIRC they are making an anime Soon™.

Tbf, while I liked the first half of Vinland Saga the latter half starts to kind of suck, at least imo, when the author suddenly wanted to write some preachy shit for his kids. Farmland Saga was alright, bit I personally dropped it after a while.

I found that farmland Saga was probably up there as one of my favorite arcs of the series just in seeing how Thorfinn grew as a person. It reminded me a lot of the similar arc that Vagabond went through which also added a lot more depth to Musashi's character.

Funny thing is, once I finished up farmland saga all satisfied I had a hard time reading any further in the story and just kind of dropped it. I found myself not really caring that much and it became somewhat too humor filled, got some tonal whiplash.

I want to try out Devilman but I'm not sure where to start...
Probably your best bet is reading through the original manga as there isn't really a complete anime adaption that properly adapts the whole thing. The original series from the 70s is nothing like the manga or the rest of the series as a whole, if you want anime I'd recommend the two Devilman OVAs as the best we'll probably ever get (If you want cheesy goodness watch the dub for at least the first one, but if you want it serious watch it subbed) and it features a great ost.
There's also Amon: The Apocalypse of Devilman which I haven't personally seen but haven't heard very much about besides the ridiculous levels of gore. If you end up liking Amon you can check out the Violence Jack OVA series, full of sex and gore, which technically connects to the Devilman series.

Basically, you can read the original manga and from there just pick what looks interesting, there's numerous spin-off stories that make use of the setting or characters from the original. For example, Devilman vs. Hades takes place after the end of the series and requires some knowledge of the Mazinger Z series while Devilman G is a manga that very loosely follows events of the original while featuring its own characters and plot. Mangadex's breakdown can kind of give you an idea of what I'm talking about, even if it lists Devilman Lady (which I've heard some people claim the anime is actually better) and Demon Knight as prequels you don't need to read them. There's a lot of collaborating with other Go Nagai titles or with stuff like Cyborg 009 vs Devilman it's because Go Nagai wanted to do a collab with Shotaro Ishinomori (creator of Cyborg 009 and the guy that Go Nagai worked for as an assistant before making his debut) in some way. None of it is needed to enjoy Devilman, they're just nice bonuses.

If anyone claims that Crybaby is a good starting point don't believe them, I would consider it more a spin-off/Alternative story with the amount of liberties it takes. It also messes up a lot of things due to this, probably the worst adaption of Ryo.

HAPPY VETERANS DAY AND REMEMBRANCE DAY TO AMERICAN AND CANADIAN KIWIS ALIKE!

In celebration, let us all watch the appropriate anime to never forget this important and wonderful day:

Hey, thanks!

I was confused at first if I should begin with Crybaby since I have Netflix and all that. I'll maybe check it out after I watch the two OVAs (I've seen a clip from one of them making fun of the dub).

Yeah I enjoyed the demon slayer anime and some of the peak moments were the great animation scenes like the end of the spider lady fight and the hinokami kagura scene, but in other ways it doesn't exactly break new ground in action shounen especially with how, for example, one of the characters is the same old cowardly pervert character I already got tired of in hero academia. Also I've been wanting to read the manga but some friends who'd been reading it said some stuff that kinda made me hesitant, the implication that at one point the story just rushes through plot points too fast and kills off characters for shock value too much.

It's probably the contrarian in me but I really dislike Miyazaki both as a person and as a creator. His films look good and do a great job in making the audience feel specific emotions, but never really held much of a deep ideas or messages. Plus idiotic anime fans basically ignore any other important manga creator just to suck up his dick.

Oh I have seen Hack sign. Personally my favorite was .Hack//Legend of Twilight, it was just a nice fun show. Not too deep and dark like the other series.
