Been watching Cardcaptor Sakura. I've seen about 10 episodes so far. It's pretty good so far. It's cute and had some good action. The voice acting is good for the most part but sometimes it sounds like they're reading a scrip and they never did another take. Sailor Moon is really the only magical girl anime I've ever seen. I know this used to air on Toonami but I never saw much of it. I supposed I counted it as a girls show, though that didn't stop me from watching the PowerPuff Girls. I pretty sure it's the Animax dub.

I've read about the original Nelvana dub from 2000 and heard they pretty much butchered the series. Most of the names are changed (which is very common from animes back then or children's animes). A lot of the relationships are gone. In the original Sakura has a crush on her brothers friend Yukito. It's there in the Nelvana dub I think but played down. Sakura's brother Toya and Yukito also have a thing for each other later in the series. As with most gay relationships in from back then it's taken out. Sakuras best friend Tomoyo likes her. In the Nelvena dub she's just a girl who has an obsession with cameras. Even Sakura's and Syaorans relationship is toned down from what I read. There are some that makes sense that they took out. In the manga Sakura has a friend who's her age and has a crush on a teacher. That's fine, but the teacher likes her back. The dude is about 30 and she's 10. It's also revealed Sakuras father was a teacher while her mom was a student while they met and got married. They also only aired 39 out of the 70 episodes despite supposedly dubbing all of them. They didn't even begin with the first episode. The began with the 8th episode where Syaoran first appears. They tried to make it look like the were both the main characters. This was done as they thought having a girl as the main character would turn away boys. Hence why the named was changed to Cardcaptors. Another minor complaint was Sakura sounded too old for a 10 year old despite her voice actor being just a year older then her. I'm not sure if it was her natural voice her she was directed that way but many complained she sounded like teen or a boy. I've heard a few good things about it, but the bad seems to outweigh the good. I haven't seen much of this dub other than some clips on Youtube. Not sure is it's on DVD or if there are any ways to watch it.

The 4kids dub took out a ton of the episodes entirely too.

GREEN LUPIN OR FUCK YOU

wait wtf is this some rusecruise that Udon is handling Versailles now?

unrelated, >tfw you're rewatching the end of Bebop but the rain outside stops before you're done

No, Red Lupin or fuck you

And yes they have the rights. Had them for a while but just now released it.

oh okay I thought this was like "Udon of Capcom art fame was doing a new Versailles" work, I didn't know they branched out into releasing existing comic works

This is Kids' WB's fault, Canada's Teletoon aired it in order just fine.

I think it's impressive that Carly was roughly Sakura's age but sounded that deep and natural. She was already a child actress prior to voicing Sakura, though, but she doesn't have a big filmography. She's a country singer with her sister, though, and they can carry a tune.

The English cast is honestly quite fantastic. You got Matt Hill, the lovely Maggie Blue O'Hara, Brian Drummond, Nicole Oliver, Sam Vincent, fucking Tony Sampson, Eddy, is Tori Avalon like dude, the Ed, Edd 'N' Eddy gang's all here! Really is just a classic Ocean Studio dub.

Pioneer released episodes, but good luck finding those DVDs at this point. I have a couple of the DVDs, and they're unfortunately using the Kids' WB cut instead of the Teletoon masters. One thing I wish Nelvana would've released officially was the original soundtrack, but that's nothing more than a pipe dream. *sigh*

A playlist exists on YouTube, regardless, though some of the episodes are gone since the last I had checked to download the episodes for myself years ago (totally not to burn them onto discs for personal future home viewings, no siree, mm-mm).

Dragon Maid s2 is coming out, nice to see Kyoani back, though it'll probably get pretty painful reaction from the west when it comes out.

The tag line is nice, seems like they're putting their best step forward.

Dragon Maid anime character designer Miku Kadowaki survived the arson so it should at least look consistent with the first season even if it'll be under a different director due to Yasuhiro Takemoto being one of the 36 KyoAni staff murdered by Shinji Aoba.

If westerners are flipping their wigs over Uzaki-chan, just wait till they see Ilulu. Their heads will explode.

I thought Ilulu actually had quite a well written arc that could actually be quite touching at times in the manga, it'll be interesting to see the way they handle her in the show as she spends quite some time being antagonistic towards the main cast in the source material.

She's also quite a funny character, there are several gags about her being bad at transformation magic and at one point her hands are just balls made up of millions of tiny hands.

But yeah, can't wait for the "big boobs bad" controversy.

I still remember a part where Sakura hands a character a bowl of soup and says "HERE, HAVE ANOTHER HAMBURGER!"

KyoAni lives? Awesome.

I'll check some of those out. I usually don't watch full episodes of copyrighted stuff on Youtube. I do give exceptions when there's no other way. I used to watch Recess there sense there was no other way to.

A lot of the old dubbing studios did always manage to get some good voice talent. As much as they edited Pokemon it had a great cast. Sad too see they're all gone now. The new people aren't bad, just not as memorable.

Reminds me in how Pokemon used to have riceballs as donuts. If I remember right I used to go to stores looking for these weird white donuts with a black thing on it. I never understood why some dubbing studios and the channels they aired on were so against showing other cultures customs. I thought here in the States grown ups wanted kids to learn more. Bu censoring all of that it's not really helping. What they usually did was had some PSA at the end about not smoking, stay away from strangers, or anything like that.

Why would the west lose it's shit over Dragoon Maid? I thought it was only a minor flare up over the single feminist line?

I never watched it or read the manga cause this series isn't my thing but judging from the complaints I've seen: There's sexual innuendos between a big titty dragon lady and a little boy and later on there's a little girl dragon with giant tits who gives a woman a dick to see whether that gives the woman attraction to other women and that made the transbians angry.

Also apparently the original manga author made a manga where a succubus molested a baby or something.

Oppai loli.
Think Uzaki, but shorter and larger.
In general, many had a problem with much of the sexual stuff in s1, the relationship between Quetzalcoatl and the kid, her white skin tone for some reason, and Kanna's design.
