Been watching Cardcaptor Sakura. I've seen about 10 episodes so far. It's pretty good so far. It's cute and had some good action. The voice acting is good for the most part but sometimes it sounds like they're reading a scrip and they never did another take. Sailor Moon is really the only magical girl anime I've ever seen. I know this used to air on Toonami but I never saw much of it. I supposed I counted it as a girls show, though that didn't stop me from watching the PowerPuff Girls. I pretty sure it's the Animax dub.
I've read about the original Nelvana dub from 2000 and heard they pretty much butchered the series. Most of the names are changed (which is very common from animes back then or children's animes). A lot of the relationships are gone. In the original Sakura has a crush on her brothers friend Yukito. It's there in the Nelvana dub I think but played down. Sakura's brother Toya and Yukito also have a thing for each other later in the series. As with most gay relationships in from back then it's taken out. Sakuras best friend Tomoyo likes her. In the Nelvena dub she's just a girl who has an obsession with cameras. Even Sakura's and Syaorans relationship is toned down from what I read. There are some that makes sense that they took out. In the manga Sakura has a friend who's her age and has a crush on a teacher. That's fine, but the teacher likes her back. The dude is about 30 and she's 10. It's also revealed Sakuras father was a teacher while her mom was a student while they met and got married. They also only aired 39 out of the 70 episodes despite supposedly dubbing all of them. They didn't even begin with the first episode. The began with the 8th episode where Syaoran first appears. They tried to make it look like the were both the main characters. This was done as they thought having a girl as the main character would turn away boys. Hence why the named was changed to Cardcaptors. Another minor complaint was Sakura sounded too old for a 10 year old despite her voice actor being just a year older then her. I'm not sure if it was her natural voice her she was directed that way but many complained she sounded like teen or a boy. I've heard a few good things about it, but the bad seems to outweigh the good. I haven't seen much of this dub other than some clips on Youtube. Not sure is it's on DVD or if there are any ways to watch it.
