Aww, man, I couldn't remember who did the voice of Justin Ueki Tylor so I looked it up and it was Kouji Tsujitani, who I remember was also the voice of Bernard Wiseman in Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket. I wasn't aware that he died of a stroke in 2018. RIP.

iirc he was the F91 guy too

Remembered another one of these early parody fandubs, a group called Pinesalad Productions put together some Robotech re-dubs, then later produced four episodes using the Dirty Pair TV series as their base - Kei is dubbed with a fake Russian accent and Yuri is given a stereotypical Valley Girl persona. The actors would make their own sound effects, like in one episode a coin is tossed on a plate and one of the actors says "TINK". They were pretty popular on the circuit, and only two can be found online these days, "The Dirty Pair Does Dishes" and this, though maybe someone still has a copy made from a nth generation copy of an S-VHS copy of one of the other two in their closet.

I wonder if the Eternal Edition of Sailor Moon is worth it.

Also I'm watching the Viz DVDs and I'm not really getting why people think it's bad? Its not as bad as the early episodes of Slayers nor the abysmal ADV sets of the first two seasons with their horrific cardboard tube mono audio.

^ Another problem with the ADV Sailor Moon sets was that the audio was at least a second out of sync on the opening sequence for most of the first season, like how the shot with one mask, then three masks, then a whole bunch of masks is supposed to sync with the music in-between the end of "Ima sugu ai tai you" and the start of "Nakitaku naru you na moonlight", but, on the ADV Films set version, the "Nakitaku" starts when the first mask is only halfway turned.

Actress Kumiko Okae passed away on Thursday due to pneumonia from the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19). She was 63.
Okae had undergone radiation therapy from January to February after being diagnosed with breast cancer late last year. Okae supposedly began suffering from a fever on April 3, and was rushed to a hospital on April 6 after her sickness worsened. She was diagnosed with COVID-19 soon after.
Okae debuted as the titular role in the TBS show Omitsu in 1975, and she has starred in a large number of live-action series including Ten Made Todoke. She also co-hosted the long-running Hanamaru Market life-information program.
In anime, she played Elina in the 1997 The Dog of Flanders film, Haru's mother in Studio Ghibli's The Cat Returns, and Jenny in the Pokémon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew movie. She also played Ryouko Ayuhara in the 2005 live-action Attack No. 1 series.

I still think Naruto filler episodes are more enjoyable than the serious business shit from the comics.
Been watching some Shippuden lately and it re-enforces that belief. I enjoyed the story in the comics but I was really hoping for more Ninja Adventures With Ninja Kids At Ninja School In Ninja World than the DBZ stuff so it's nice to get the anime-original material which is more like that

I'm not really into Naruto but I've always felt the same way about Sailor Moon. The first season episode where they're catsitting is one of the funniest single episodes of any 1990s TV anime.

Was this in all of them, not just the box-sets but the individual DVD volumes as well? This is a legit question because I decided to bite the bullet and buy that particular "Diamond Series" on eBay as my birthday present--came a little late, but it came regardless, and they're actual physical copies lovingly shipped straight from Canada, which backs up the positive feedback. I popped in the first disc of the first season for a test run and hallelujah it works. But it's definitely super suspicious and looks real certain to be a bootleg, especially since the quality looks kinda "eh" for a DVD quality, but that's what happens on HD TVs, and it's not distracting to me, personally, being an anime pirate.

The DVD menu (first disc) I believe is ripped straight from the first ADV volume "A Heroine is Chosen" complete with the vanity plates in the beginning because I'm telling you that I cannot find any information on a "Diamond Series" or a "limited collector edition" for Sailor Moon anywhere. These were apparently mass-produced back in 2014 (example from a post in 2014 showing off her collection), there's multiple, multiple copies of these floating around of each season plus the movie collection for Region 1 DVD players. Supposedly, they're distributed by "Animage Sweden" but again, I can't find jackshit. The "authorized by ADV Films/Pioneer Films/Toei Animation" claims I'm sure are full of shit. (Sorry for shitty photos.)

The reason I am not pissed off about this whatsoever is that this looks like it takes up less space on my shelf than it would've had I bought the official ADV releases for the original dub. The Blu-Ray parts probably take up about the same amount of space, but I honestly liked the original DiC and Cloverway dubs, they're cheesy and fun and I never felt like it was a slog to watch like with most Toei shows (Sailor Stars included). Also fuck paying like fifty bucks for only twenty episodes apiece.

I'm going to watch it with my brother since he's interested in checking it out, but we're gonna be sticking with the dub track anyway. On my own time, I'll have to check out the Japanese track to see how it fares and if the sync issue remains. But there you go, this is my journey as a pirate all because I just wanted to go old-school and if it'll rustle Viz's jimmies then so be it (but I made it up to you, Viz, by buying your Pokémon DVDs and the Ranma 1/2 OVA/movies DVD, so it's not like you lost money). This actually isn't the first time I got bootleg/counterfeit Sailor Moon stuff, I have myself a counterfeit Sailor Moon figurine that could fool anyone not in the know, but bootlegs honestly fascinate me so I take what I can get. This sounds like a cool rabbit hole to follow if there was a way to find more information about it.

I don't think those are official, Canadians just got the same official releases that Americans got, with the first two seasons being from ADV Films and the second two seasons from Pioneer USA which had become Geneon by the time of some of the later re-releases. After the demise of Geneon, I don't think there were any official releases in Canada until Viz.

Then again, I can't speak for other official English versions that might have existed in other portions of the world but it' would be very unusual that a Swedish release would only have English subtitles.

I think the only Canadian-exclusive anime DVD I have is Alliance's release of Princess Mononoke, which was, of course, distributed by Disney/Miramax in the United States.

If this was true, then they wouldn't be having Region 1 DVDs, now would they?

I dunno, I think this is an interesting find that's been floating around for years, and whoever they are who mass-produced this set have done a good job hiding themselves. And actually, it looks like they've been releasing these DVDs since at least 2011, it's just the ones I got were specifically made in 2014.

Sadly, we will probably lose couple veterans, and maybe a few veteran actors to this crisis. While Japan is good about things like masks and hand washing, they reaction time to Covid was slow.

After finishing up my second read of firepunch i still dont know if its the most kino or the most retarded manga i have ever read
