well he ain't wromg.

I just finished binge-watching Saga of Tanya the Evil and I ended up liking it. Just like Overlord it had the potential to be complete and utter compost, but it ended up being good instead. It's along Overlord, Drifters and Black Lagoon one of the only four good isekai anime.

Watched the reboot of Digimon adventure after people wanted me to do a comparison with the original that is considered as sacred as Saint Seiya and Dragon ball (also im the only idiot they know that watched the latin american and the japanese dub) in this side of the globe and i have to admit im a little confused about it going to put on spoilers for those that have not lived Butterfly on tv

First thing out of the box, there is no island, Taichi was going to go to the summer camp but instead reach the Digital world on his own by running on a stairs in a station to try to save his mom for a train that was bugged by digimons

The entire setting was upgraded to modern standards, wireless internet is commonplace, Koichiro (Izzy in the EN/Latin dub) has something resembling Tweetdeck and a tablet that looks like a Surface, the tablet is latter upgraded by a App called Wisdom Stone, i dont know if someone can verify but i remember in the games that the protagonist were called DigiDestined but in both the latin american and japanese dub they were called The Choosen children thing that now appears in the Wisdom Stone app

The digivices did not change as much, but they added new perks for them, now digimons can be manually controlled and boosted also they show from day 1 the symbols to reach the second step of digivolution thing that did not happened in the first version until way later, they also work as communication devices and now are more slick with LED screens (the first ones did not even had colors even the toys were monochrome)

Another change to the lore was that Wild Digimons could easily evolve, the reason this is weird in Adventure was because its explained that Digimons could reach evolution but after several years of fighting or absorbing data, only the ones accompanied with a chosen children could evolve as needed but in the first one i never remember happening, the digimons appeared at is and you did not see them evolving out of nowhere

The opening is not Butterfly, absolutely Haram

Toei learned their mistakes of the last Digimons movie, the designs are just sharper versions of the one of the classic series and that is a ok in my book

And thats about it, is a complete overhaul but ditching several parts to possibly adjust it to 2 seasons , the fact that they cut hard the first part of the old series is something

does Black Lagoon count as Isekai?

Something that in 2019, there were two City Hunter films released, both an animated version and a live-action French production.

Lol "choosen". Engrish wins out in the end.

I think the wild Digimon Digivolving by themselves at will has been set since Frontier, maybe Tamers, and they just let it be which is stupid because training oneself to be able to Digivolve was a better idea, also explaining how so few Digimon can reach Mega. It also helped that was backed up by Gatomon since she had to Digivolve on her own and therefore was able to maintain her Champion form compared to the other chosen Digimon, meaning it was possible she could've trained herself to reach Ultimate without the Crest of Light, but would she have become Angewomon or something else?

Although I wonder if it was like that for Adventure because of Millenniumon fucking everything up which made things rather screwy, and that could've included Digivolution.

I dunno, I don't care they modernized the reboot, but I'm just tired of Adventure and that's why I haven't gone out of my way to watch it yet. Give it a rest, Toei. If the final ratings for this aren't any better compared to Fusion, then I'm gonna laugh my ass off.

Have you watched Gate?
It's pretty silly but you get to watch jet fighters battle with dragons.

Yeah BL is not isekai
When you think about it and look at the premise, Black Lagoon is actually an isekai. Only Rock didn't get transported by Truck-kun into a fantasy world but by his company into South East Asia. I went a bit more into detail on this in the OP of the Black Lagoon thread.

Drifters has a crazy Japanese World War II era pilot battling dragons too and much other cool shit. The concept of Gate is neat, but the anime itself didn't impress me. At all. And Drifters is also done by the same guy who did Hellsing.

Anyone wants to try streaming the Yamato remake on Funimation? 2199 parts 1-2, 2202 part 1.
One person only. Please reply to the post and I'll pm you some codes to try (and, later, pics of inlays so you can argue with their support when the codes don't work).

The rule was specific to Adventures because apparently Toei did not want to waste money in making Evolutions animations, heck even the final boss of the series said that he achieved that state because Digimon were dying to achieve Evolution according to the wikia but in the latin american dub iirc he said that he was the anger of all the digimons that could not evolve, the rule was danced in Digimon tamers by using Calumon as a plot device

At least is not Tamers, that thing created a entire generation of furries, and Xros wars was so bad that they dumped the gimmick in the second season and now digimons could evolve like they used to

As I've been encumbered with free time I'm looking to broaden some of my horizons. I'd never been much interested in manga as a medium but I did read Blame! on Easter Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Aside from its sequels which haven't the same visual appeal as illustrations in the original is there anything out there even moderately similar in tone and style?

South East Asia is not a fantasy world. If it was it would be hard to get into. Well it would be hard to get into alive or healthy if you consider the pirates and slavers that would catch you first or even their government officials that capture you and you’re never heard of again.

I don't think the fantasy part matters that much, but more that it's another world, be it literally or metaphorically. Think about it from a storytelling perspective: Rock gets transported from "his world" that is 90s corporate Japan, into "another world" in the form of the pirate and crime infested shithole of South East Asia. More or less a slightly less depressing and miserable Now and Then, Here and There.

I still insist that Black Lagoon is an isekai, at the very least from a metaphorical one.
