Personally I dearly miss the Haruhi series and old KyoAni/Studio SHAFT.

I too still hope for Haruhi Suzumiya season 3 even if it'll probably have to be done at Satelight or something instead of KyoAni.

Speaking of KyoAni, original Haruhi Suzumiya director Tatsuya Ishihara recently drew an illustration celebrating the 5th anniversary of Sound Euphonium. I hadn't heard any news about him since July so I was afraid that he was still in hospital. Even if it's a bit too straightforward and dry a series about high school classical music band life for my own tastes, I hope he will able to continue to orchestrate that show with a new class of animators so that KyoAni can rise again like a phoenix.

Nobody's writing off anything. I'm just stating facts. But at this point, it isn't "ours" anymore, it's the next generation's; and if you sit around thinking you'll get season 3 of whatever, you just sound like an old man.
I pretty much resigned to that fate. It's not the 90's anymore when this was still fresh for me.

Should be coming in in a couple days, but last week I bought the collector's box-set of Now and Then, Here and There because fuck getting the individual volumes, that'd have cost me twice as much as what I ended up paying for. But I like how shortly after I made the purchase, another offer that was cheaper for a still new box-set went up and I could've saved twenty bucks if I had waited, maybe lol. But I hadn't ever seen it fall below 80 bucks before, so I went with the first one I saw that happened to be "like new". So eh. I never thought I'd ever actually be able to own this anime, though, it's been so long out-of-print that getting my hands on even a DVD of it felt out of my reach.

But man, that anime sticks with you. It's been I think... fuck, seven years now since I saw it, but I still remember the sense of despair and emotional exhaustion that came to be in 13 episodes, it took me six days to watch it I had to take breaks. Hamdo also never left my head, he was just so crazy, and yet the dub actor never did much. The only other notable role he did was Saionji from Revolutionary Girl Utena, but I didn't know that until I watched the movie dubbed and went "Wait a second, I know that voice!"

This rewatch is gonna be rough lol. Thinking on watching it with a brother if he's willing and able to do so. I warned him about it, and suggested that if we watch it to do so in one sitting or else we weren't going to get back into it. He'll give me an answer once he sees the box-set for himself, but he's so not gonna be ready for it.

Considering what a phenomena Haruhi Suzumiya was it's surprising it didn't last longer or hasn't been revived yet.

But from what I understand that second season really screwed things up, didn't it? (I've only seen season 1)

It's a hot topic and very subjective but I think that we can agree that S2 was handled in a less-than-optimal way. The movie made up for it, though.

The Disappearance movie more than made up for the gimmick of the "Endless Eight" arc in the second season, which also had "Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody" and the Sigh arc.

I think the main reason there hasn't been any main series Haruhi Suzumiya anime made since 2010 is that author Nagaru Tanigawa hasn't published a full-length Haruhi Suzumiya light novel since both halves of The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya were published in June 2011 (although a short story was published in 2018 ) so publisher Kadokawa Shoten hasn't commissioned any more main series Haruhi Suzumiya anime as there are no new Haruhi Suzumiya light novels or short story collections to promote.

I think there's also the slight problem that the next full-length novel in the series is The Intrigues of Haruhi Suzumiya, which does finish the story of Disappearance in the prologue but which isn't as suited to a movie-length adaptation as it's mostly the older Mikuru getting Kyon to conduct random tasks, many of which seem like pranks. It's setting up things for the future but it lacks the gravitas of Disappearance and would probably have been better-suited for television adaptation.

The only Haruhi Suzumiya-related anime series we've gotten since 2010 is The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan from Studio Satelite in 2015, based on the alternate universe spin-off manga by Puyo.

Oh no, I hope she’s ok.

She's in her early 30s, so unless she has an underlying condition, she should be okay. It looks like she's staying positive, which is good. It's not like she's in the idol industry which I think would be super devastating for them, although we would've heard word about an idol coming down with it.

I thought what killed it was the voice actress for Haruhi getting caught in a scandal.

But if there's light novels the anime didn't cover, why would they wait for yet another one to be published instead of adapting what they haven't adapted yet? That seems pretty odd.

I don't run a major Japanese book publisher so I can't give a straight answer but the answer probably has a lot to do with the cross-promotional potential of having a new book coming out within the same short span of time as an anime adaptation of an earlier book in the series.

Don't wanna jinx myself in the off-chance my opinions changes as it goes 'cause this happened before with Ranma 1/2 when season five hit, but I just have to say that I'm really enjoying Urusei Yatsura. It's a darling series, and Lum is really adorable. She's supposed to be obnoxious and Ataru does what he can to avoid her, but she's a real sweetheart, no wonder she's become so iconic. Ten is also perfectly balancing out the cute and obnoxious, like he should be that annoying little kid with the scratchy loud voice, but he's too precious and I love him. Shutaro I think is a great idea for a rival, he puts on the "cool rich kid" mask but he has his own insecurities, Ran's attempts on trying to get revenge on her best friend-turned-rival for petty reasons is hilarious, Shinobu is a toned-down and better-handled Akane, and Ataru is surprisingly endearing. The supporting cast has been good, too, I like it when they show up, Megane, Perm, Cherry and Sakura, and much more.

I am really liking this series. My friend said it's not a show to binge, but I've been kinda binging this since the start of April (three-to-six episodes a day is how I've been doing it) and I'm not getting tired of it. It's just been a lovely time.
