Yeah, it would be ironic then they would make Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune cousins again thanks to Funimation. :story:

Edit: The guys of Clownfish posted a vlog about this.

I thought that Haruka and Michiru being "cousins" instead of "lovers" in the English TV dub was the fault of DiC and Cloverway and it was done to get it onto children's television in North America in the 1990s.

I am concerned about the possibility of Funimation forcing their own personal politics into anime they have a hand in producing but bringing up DiC and Cloverway straightwashing Haruka and Michiru in the 1990s seemed like a total non sequitur as Funimation had nothing to do with that in the first place as far as I can tell.

Cloverway step in during Sailor Moon S after Dic dropped the ball.

With the current folks at the head of Funimation. I'm afraid they could be able to play that card as well or another trick I'm afraid.

I may be late and gay, but here are some pics of the new Digimon anime thing they're gonna do

I don't see modern Funimation eliminating gay and lesbian characters, I see them going the other way, forcing more of them in for diversity's sake. Not that I have any problem with gays or lesbian characters as long as they're proper, fleshed-out characters and don't feel like they were made gay or lesbian just to get headpats from western activist groups. (I'm obviously not talking about anime where shoujo ai or shounen ai is a major defining characteristic, since those already existed without any foreign SJW interference, and a lot of the more militant activist types hate yuri and yaoi anyway for having all sorts of problematic elements and fetishizing same sex relationships.)

I agree with their main point about Funimaton but their bringing up Haruka and Michiru having been made "cousins", because them being "lovers" would have prevented Sailor Moon Super and Super S from being picked up by all that many channels in late 1990s children's television syndication, is about as relevant to the current state of anime in America twenty plus years later, where it's mostly streamed and not aired on broadcast television, as it would be if they had mentioned how Sandy Frank inserted the droid 7-Zark-7 into Gatchaman because Star Wars had been a surprise box office success a couple of years earlier (and also because 7-Zark-7 filled in airtime left from any edits made due to violence or sexuality).

People just know that anime was censored in the West back in the day and they don't seem to know why.

I begin to wonder if Funimation forcing the addition of more gay and lesbian characters for diversity's sake might turn into a cliche? Also I saw this post about gay and lesbians characters in a My Little Pony thread who might give some food for thoughts in how they'll be portrayed.

What happened this time, are they still pissing about Endeavor or something?
Oh, they’re still doing that. I meant more about recent manga stuff and how quickly they turned on Hawks.

Seriously? I could understand not liking it due to character favoritism, but to say that its problematic is pretty exceptional.
He’s apparently some kind of evil bastard now for not joining the villains side to “fight the establishment” and for killing a bad guy because he was sympathetic. Like, I liked Twice too, but he was still a villain.

I was binge watching Netflix’s dub of Evangelion, and I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, I never liked the ADV dub (most of their mid to late ‘90s dubs were crap, with a few notable exceptions), and I think the new cast does a better job. On the other hand, where the fuck is Fly Me to the Moon? I am glad I still have my ADV Platinum Collection DVDs of it, so I can watch it subbed with the original music intact.

Something to do with music rights issues, probably, even if they're all cover versions made specifically for the anime and not the Frank Sinatra version (which was also a cover version of a song written by Bart Howard and originally recorded by Kaye Ballard in 1954, a decade before the Sinatra version, I am fully aware).

To be fair the original Eva dub is still a cut above most 90s anime dubs, even if it's dated today.

I think what saves it though is Allison Keith as Misato, I just heavily associate her voice with that character.

Haven't seen it, but what does Netflix replace the music with? Something else from the OST? Or is it just silent?

He gave Twice every single opportunity to stand down, after Twice's arc he became the most overpowered current villain by a huge margin and Hawk has pretty much always been a chaotic good ends justify the means sort of guy.

Anyone who thinks that the League of Villains or Meta Liberation Army's plans are preferable to the current society is either a brain damaged tankie or an exceptional ancap. Where the fuck do people without powers or shitty powers like Deku's mom fit in?

It's weird, but I think Interspecies Reviewers has one of the strongest world building I've seen in a show (at least recently). It's all kind of works together and makes sense.
