Black Clover is better than MHA and it's recent OP is AMAZING. Kind of sucks it's not as popular, but i can understand why. At the surface it just looks like a Fairy Tail clone and the MC's screaming in the first dozen or so episodes leaves a terrible first impression.
Probably because it had the single most offensely bad intro of any series I've ever sceen. The first episode is about a Naruto clone that can't be a ninja and a nicer Sauske, then it turns out Naruto actually inexplicably has antimagic powers like a half dozen other more likable recent protagonists from successful anime. So he gets to be a ninja anyway. And then literally 15 minutes of the second episode was a recap of the first episode. Fuck that noise.

I have some friends that watch it and said it gets better, but there's already too much anime to keep up with. I don't have time to keep up with a long battle Shonen that thinks the viewer is an idiot.

Also it doesn't help that the manga makes some really dumb decisions and some characters don't permanently die later on.

Made in Abyss: Chateau Bonbon recently premiered. Anons on /a/ are already reporting that it's spectacular.

EDIT: I didn't catch it before, but no. 4 on Disc 2 is a 4:20 piece literally titled "The Rumble of Scientific Triumph".
Jesus that fucking arc. Even a 40k character will say it is fucked up.

It's only got 7 chapters so far but I'd highly recommend people check out the Sekiro manga Hanbei Side Story, solid art and it dips into the characters/politics of Sekiro prior to when the game started. Honestly even if you don't like the game you could still enjoy it cause it still makes for a neat Samurai story.

I think a certain someone *cough@RomanesEuntDomuscough* will be pleased to hear about someone starting Dennou Coil.

Weirdest first episode I've seen in years. I thought I accidentally started the second episode because it just drops you into this setting where weird, crazy cyber shit's going on, and they're dropping down these alien-sounding names/words that don't sound real. Like, this feels more like a modern-day interpretation of My Neighbor Totoro meets Earthbound and even that's not explaining it well enough. The animation's really smooth, like yeah, it's Madhouse, but that's some good art for a twelve-year-old show. There's a piece of music that made me think of Yoshi's Story for some reason, so I was like "Ohhhh video games" which kinda helped in getting hunkered in, but it's still so weird.

Granny's an oddball lmao. You don't get elderly characters like her often.
I really hope you will enjoy it as much as I did. The world is strange and weird, but it is a lot of fun to explore it and there's so many neat ideas sprinkled throughout.

In somewhat unrelated news, I watched Vinland Saga and thought it was amazing. It didn't pull off every scene as strongly as the Manga, but it was a great adaptation that luckily didn't change around too much.

Misoshiru de Kanpai is about a girl who wishes to make her childhood friend miso soup every morning. Meanwhile, he wishes to have her miso soup every morning. Their connotations for this have yet to align.

Also contains more than a dash(i) of soup autism.

I know I'm late to the party but I finally got to see Weathering With You. Like others have said it doesn't have the same weight as it's predecesors and it plays pretty safe, but the art and the music are just so utterly goregeous that it's hard to fault it. It makes Your Name's art look dull, and Your Name is a beautiful movie in its own right. The whole thing is fun, and it kept the audience so animated it was infectious. I'd say that was one of the best, if not the single best, theatre experience of my life. Absolutely fantastic film - make an effort to grab someone and see it for yourselves while it's still playing; it's worth every cent.

Only anime I watch is anything video game related and their all in DVD format (I collect DVDs as a hobby). In fact, my collections is as follows...

Ace Attorney: Surprisingly close to the games (no Rise From The Ashes though, which sucks cause I really liked that one in the first game). I have the first two parts, and i plan on getting the second season parts in the near future.

Battle Arena Toshinden: This is loosely based off of the second game for the Playstation (Uranus is the main villain instead of Master). Unfortunately majority of the characters from that game don't appear until the very end and have only a handful of lines. It focuses more on Eiji (who is basically the Ryu of the series) who's trying to locate his his brother (the Akuma of the series) which he thinks is working for Uranus.

Fatal Fury Double Impact & The Motion Picture: Double Impact is actually 2 stories based on the first and second game respectively, while The Motion Picture is an original plot with new characters not from the games (Double Impact does this to an extent too with the love interest Terry gets). I'm not too familiar with the series in general (I'm more of a Street Fighter person than a Fatal Fury/KOF person), but I enjoyed it.

Professor Layton & The Eternal Diva: Basically what you'd get if you take out the gameplay & puzzles but kept the cutscenes. It's an original plot where Layton gets invited on a cruise ship where they have to solve puzzles on it and the island they land on in order to solve the mystery. It's also the only anime i keep the english voices for, since its the same voice actors from the game (which I find waaaaaaaay more tolerable than anything else dubbed).

Samurai Showdown: Loosely based on the first game. The copy I have is in english only with censored blood (its white instead of red) and Amakusa is a woman.

Senran Kagura: Fan service the anime. Based on the first game (the japan one, not the "Burst" one released overseas that added the Hebijo story) and has THE worst english voice acting I've ever heard. Thankfully it has subs with the original japan voice acting. Also there's no Yoma at the end and Dogen takes a more active roll as the villain.

Street Fighter (The Animated Movie): Based off of Street Fighter 2 (including the super characters and even Akuma makes a subtle cameo). Bison wants Ryu's power and lures him with Ken. Guile and ChunLi go on a wild goose chase for Shadaloo. The copy I have is the (unfortunate) PG-13 one with english dubs only (basically the version that's on the Street Fighter Anniversary Collection for the PS2)

Street Fighter Alpha (the Movie): This movie has an original plot that revolves around a boy that pretends to be Ryu's long lost brother. Also Ryu is trying to tame the evil energy inside him, the villain is original (no Bison in this movie), ChunLi went through a drastic facial change, theres no Charlie Nash, and just like Battle Arena Toshinden the majority of the roster is suddenly brought in near the end of the movie.

Seton Academy is an enjoyable time killer slice of life show. It's funny how the series just doesn't give a fuck in making all males anthro animals and the females hybrid waifu bait, but this monster girl type solution is far more respectable than full blown furry stuff.

For a minute I thought the lead wolf girl was Tony Tony Chopper's VA but looking her up she was just heavily inspired to do voice acting because of seeing the One Piece Chopper movie.

I am right now enjoying Sounan Desu Ka? aka Are You Lost?. It's basically a Bear Grylls anime that might as well be called Anime Girls vs Wild.

Remember: Lie back and think of England!

lttp but I finally saw Broly. Was expecting just mindless fanservice, but wound up really liking it.

The long battle did kind of wear me out, personally I prefered all the story stuff with the saiyens, but it gave me a hardy lol when Goku and Vegeta tricked Broly into kicking Frieza's ass.

I guess it'd be pointless, but it'd be cool to see an Episode of Bardock movie animated this way. I really like Nozawa's subtlty voice acting for him.

Im glad that they are expanding the game lore because there has not been any notice of a DLC, there is so much lore of Sekiro that could being expanded, for example people are still asking for more lore about Lady Tomoe, a character only mentioned as someone so powerful that even Isshin fear her

This season has been very weak, to much idolshit for me to care, i think i only picked Seton gakuen because is just simply fun, ID-INVADED aka "we are totally not psycho pass gais" and Eizouken, every animator that pay their respects for Future boy conan is a good guy in my book is a shame that is not in any streaming services,

I recently rewatched 2003 of FMA because of how many people liked it and I thought it would improve. It did, I appreciate a lot of the stuff done with it on a second viewing compared to when I first saw it (which was my first exposure to FMA) and like some of the original stuff done with it. It's still not that good for me, but it isn't as horrible as I thought it was and is more of the okay tier. Only things I really didn't like is that I felt some of the homunculi backstories (barring Lust, Wrath, and Sloth) should've been developed further (especially Envy and Bradley) but I can understand it was due to what limited source material that was had at the time. I also enjoyed what they did to some of the more one off villain characters like Barry the Chopper and Shou Tucker but I disliked their portrayal of Kimblee as a generic psychopath but that is probably due to him being a very new character when he was introduced in the manga so I can't fault it. Basically some of the minor characters that were in the manga were done pretty well in interesting ways (barring Rose) that is admirable in a sense that a lot of thought and care were put into many.

I felt the main cast was done very well except for Alphonse (who felt very dumb at times and I get he's a kid but they made him way too immature which sort of made his dynamic with Ed feel imbalanced with both of them being immature) and Winry who feels very sidelined. But everything else was good, and I am glad the show at least left me to think a lot more on things.

tl;dr FMA 2003 is much better than I thought it was even if there were things that still weren't that great. Conqueror of Shamballa can go eat a dick though.

Extremely lttp, but really enjoyed the Castlevania anime. No clue exactly what to expect going in, but definitely didn't see that level of gore or humor coming (not that I'm complaining). They do a good job of making Dracula sympathetic enough so he's not just evil for the sake of being evil and showing just how stupid motherfuckers were back in those days (dude let's kill Dracula's wife lmao). The confrontation episode between Belmont/Alucard/Black Mage Lady and Drac was great and the finale of the battle being Dracula realizing his quest for vengeance had led him to the point where we was trying to murder his own son and choosing to surrender to his death was the perfect way to end things.

They've confirmed a 3rd season which I guess will continue from where they left off with Isaac and Carmilla or whatever still being out there. I somewhat expected them to fast forward a bit and bring in a different Belmont to contend with Drac's latest resurrection since that's the ultimate plot of the series though depending on how long they plan on this series going that's certainly something that could still happen.

Still holding out hope for WHAT IS A MAN and/or DIE MONSTER

I really disliked the second season, felt like the creators tried to rip off GoT with the vampires while the heroes were stuck in the library for 3/4 of the season. The big problem is that you know from the start that the vampires would fail because otherwise Dracula won't be the main boss, so there isn't really any tension. Also doesn't help that all the characters in the vampire court are horrible people.

I've been reading Danberu Nan Kiro Moteru? lately, because I saw two episodes of the anime when it was first coming out and it looked pretty fun. And it is, I'm really liking it.
For the most part, it's actually really informative. The exercises are explained well, the diets are explained well, and I'm impressed that there's even stuff about peak gym hours and the like. From what I hear, however, there may be some inaccuracies, so don’t use it as gospel. The comedy is also pretty well done. You can tell that the author writes battle manga, especially when there's any type of competition. It likes to make fun of itself, and that's nice.
The characters are fun. The main girl having the motivation of wanting to consume vast amounts of food, to the point where others think she's trying to be a straight up monster wrestler or something, without getting fat is probably the most relatable motivation I have ever seen in a manga about 'getting stronger'. The other girl who wants to fuck the concept of abs is a good enough bit, but she's better for explaining the science behind stuff rather than a one-note joke. The boxer girl is pretty flat so far, and the teacher is great. The teacher just wants to not feel or look old, and these other girls keep bugging her. It's funny, the pain of others. The russian is pretty funny as well.
But yeah, if you are a fitness nerd you'd probably like it. If you aren't a fitness nerd, but you like when people write about their hobbies to an autistic degree, you might like it. I'd give it a shot if sounds like your thing.
I'm sold enough on it to have added Kengan Ashura to my 'read later' list, it's by the same author.

I don't usually follow seasonal anime, but for once I'm keeping an eye on two works (since I've already read their manga):

In-Spectre

I've mentioned it before in the thread, but the basic gist is that the young lady in front is a representative for youkai, having exchanged her left leg and right eyeball years ago as a child to accept the role. With her sharp intellect and host of spiritual informants, she fulfills the requests of various youkai across Japan and conducts conflict mediation, all for the sake of keeping the affairs between humans and youkai separate.

Meanwhile, the guy behind her is her (unwilling) boyfriend, and is a direct product of humans and youkai interference. That's not why he's with her though; she just finds him hot. He's the muscle, she's the brain.

Something to note is that the manga (and the novel it's based from) is WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS. This isn't the only manga to be dialogue-heavy, but boy, can things get lengthy. If the chapters weren't around the ballpark of 55~ pages each, the text density would rival the most offensive Hunter x Hunter exposition dumps. That's because of the particular goal set out by the protagonists - in spite of the title pun, they're don't necessarily have to find the truth in each mystery provided. They have evidence available thanks to the girl's resources, but the only thing they need to do is to give a logical and satisfactory explanation to their clients, actual accuracy be damned. So long as their explanation is accepted, they're golden. A lot of times a client may plead for more details or call bullshit to the girl's claims, to which she would swiftly move on to another theory without skipping a beat. In some cases she deliberately bombards a client with conjecture upon conjecture until they confuse themselves and become more open to suggestion. I'm interested in seeing how this plays out in an animated format.

Somali and the Forest Spirit

This one is about a world where monsters of all shapes and sizes live peacefully among each other. The same cannot be said for humans, however - it was said that a long time ago, the two races came into contact, like two waves crashing into the same lane. While attempts were made to get along, tensions between the two races quickly escalated into a great conflict.

Humans lost the war almost immediately.

Humanity as a whole has been reduced to a distant memory to most monster folk. Human meat has become a delicacy, and what few settlements that had survived were wiped out in human hunts. And with this cheery backstory in mind, a small, disheveled human girl in chains enters the forest domain of a golem. Much to his confusion, she immediately latches onto him while calling him father. Now, the golem embarks on a grand journey beyond the confines of the forest with her by his side to find her family, not quite aware that he's becoming quite the parent himself.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm just an easy sucker for stories about parenthood. This one in particular gets bonus points because I can listen to Jotaro talk like an actual father for a change.
