From what I can tell, it seems that they've decided to show fanservice "as the plot demands" rather than for the hell of it. I understand that Japan wants to look good for its 2020 Olympics, but I haven't really heard anything else from other studios and creators; it's just rumors and speculation.
Ok, the creator of To-Love-Ru and artist of Darling in the Franxx has a new manga, with a title that's uh...here's the plot:

The problem, well it could be a problem: the title. It's called:

Trans Boy. And no, it's not a gender bender or about identity stuff, he transforms into a hero. I'm pretty sure with a title like that it might get people pushed the wrong way for obvious reasons and considering this guy was involved in Darling in the Franxx and our old pal JesuOtaku calling it far right propaganda, well...yeah I'm not sure a lot of folks might not take it well.
It doesn't really help that the ojou character is a Momo Deviluke clone.

Today, completely out of the blue, I remembered Dennou Coil, a truly amazing and -sadly!- underappreciated anime.
It came out in 2007 and I am certain that there were only 2 things that made this absolutely stellar work fly under many an anime-fan's radar:
1) The artstyle. It's not moeblobs, so people might have overlooked it.
2) It came out the same year as Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann... and let's be honest, that is some tough competition.

The story is set in a not-so-distant future where everyone uses smartglasses to interact with Augmented Reality. Yuko (far right, also called Yasako, alternate spelling of the Kanji in her name) moves to a new city with her family, there she meets Fumie (next to Yuko), she essentially ends up in a club of pupils that look for lost Cyberpets... that's at least how this story begins.

Another pupil called Yuko (far left, similarly to Yasako, she's also called Isako) enters the scene and suddenly it turns into turf wars between hackers, espionage, mysterious occurances, urban legends... I don't want to oversell the anime, but it's genuinely amazing what twists and turns this story takes and how emotional it gets at times.
One of the core aspect of the anime is that the kids use AR weapons and hacks to do certain things (such as attacking one another) and they find themselves at odds with the AR-Security bots called "Saatchi" (the bean-shaped thing in the 2nd image) and encounter so called "illegals", small, black blobs with glowing eyes that sometimes vaguely look like certain animals. They are AIs that usually live in what is called "obsolete space", outdated and buggy AR-space but noone knows where they come from and what they do.

The Show overall is a pretty ambitious mix of comedy, drama, action, mystery and sometimes even horror elements, that works absolutely flawlessly - way better, in fact, than what you'd expect. It's just so imaginative and there's a real "sense of wonder" when the kids make their discoveries. The plot structure is absolutely amazing, too, where it slowly builds up tension and mystery.

I can't recommend it enough, it has a very warmhearted style of humor, there's a few scenes that are genuinely heartbreaking and the characters and their interaction is just so much fun to watch.

Oh, and did I mention the nice OST?

I wonder when Iso's new project with the Eureka Seven character designer is coming out.

Started reading a new manga called Chainsawman. Only four chapters translated so far, but it’s pretty entertaining.

Finally managed to move my ass and watch Saintia Sho, for some reason they decided to change the designs for ones that are more closely to Kurumada's, had to consult with my pals and they said to me "well it is a spin off and probably the main demographic (aka huehues and mexicans) probably dont know the manga, this is a way to make people watch it" and i agree, Saintia Sho has a better reception that the abomination of Netflix

Gridman and Goblin Slayer were good fun. Short and sweet. May even read the manga for the latter.

Is the guy from To love ru, so i dont expect anything worthwhile the guy is going to be cockblocked to oblivion because apparently that sells

Seeing how he bypasses the censors is always fun.

Yasako is dead

As disappointing as Tri and Sailor Moon Crystal were, I still have a soft spot for Digimon (both Adventure and Tamers) and Sailor Moon since they were what helped me get into anime, along with Cardcaptors.

I've not seen Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card yet, although I will probably do so over the next few days and I don't want any spoilers, which is why I have been avoiding reviews of it.

I hope that they won't drop the ball like Toei did with Digimon Adventure Tri and Sailor Moon Crystal.

It's an enormous nostalgia-kick.

Can't help but feel it would've been a bit funnier for it to have also been 15 years later in the anime, and Sakura's now a mother of two seriously embarrassed by Tomoyo still making her wear the cutsey clothes when she's out cardcapturing.

Oh, love to see that!

Alright, so today I was at a local thrift bookstore and noticed a bunch of Initial D Tokyopop DVDs on clearance. I knew I needed to watch the series, and figured this would be a good jumpstart for me, so I bought the first four volumes for now. But I've honestly been hung up on which dub to watch which is why it's been taking me so long to start it. Someone off-site had mentioned months ago they remembered a different dub from many years ago (and they remembered right), and I had asked them a question about if the Tokyopop dub is available online anywhere, but they never got back to me.

So I just want to know if the Tokyopop dub can be found anywhere or if buying the DVDs is the only other way. And I also want to know just how different the two dubs are.

Mark your calendars, Pokéfags, in four days New Year's Eve for us I guess, we get to see what the CGI looks like. Using the director and co-director's previous project for reference, this is probably going to be what it looks like (is this movie ever going to come out on home video?).

It's always the small, interesting titles nobody ever touches.

A lot of those are kids' shows/movies, I've noticed. Some of them do get subs, but you have to go looking through a few sites with possible malware to find it--and sometimes in parts. I remember finding Omae Umasou da na that way some years back before it was apparently "discovered" by a wider audience, although that was a good movie, so it deserves recognition. Meanwhile it's a crime that something like Catnapped! has been available in a few places for years but apparently hardly anyone has ever seen it.

Funny how anime fans will just automatically judge books by their covers and avoid so many kids' shows and movies when they should know better.

Holy fuck, Toshiko Fujita just died.
