Aren't public displays of affection kind of taboo in East Asian countries? That probably plays into it too.
Let me put it like this:

A decade ago, public kissing was seen as obscene and even holding hands was frowned upon.
Hell, being called by their first name by their SO can be considered a hassle by some people in a relationship even today.

*ahem*

From one of the last entries written for the now-defunct blog Texan in Tokyo (check it out nevertheless) just two years ago:

So nah, PDA's still frowned upon.

I don't know if there's a better thread to discuss this in, or if a separate thread should even be made. Either way, I'm gonna be talking about:
There's been a handful of new series with lots of "Gals" as the female leads, including Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san, Gal Gohan, and Yancha Gal no Anjo-san. Most of them involve a weak-willed MC that gets teased by the female lead, which makes them incredibly appealing in terms of their personalities. Now, Gal☆Cleaning was another
one of these series, but a major distinction was how the protagonist was a very resourceful guy when it came to cleaning the house and doing chores. Say what you will that he sounds like a beta male faggot, but it was nice to see him bring up simple home-remedies that felt educational.

So, what exactly is the issue? Well, after chapter 8, the author for whatever reason made some sort of "bonus side chapters," which were listed as Chapters 8.5, 8.6, 8.7, etc. When it got to 8.9, the author stretched it out even further, with 8.91, 8.92, etc. As for the chapters' contents, all it was starting out was a cliché episode of the girl forgetting to wear panties at school, and the protagonist having to help cover for her. After they almost get caught by the student council president, THIS IS WHERE IT ALL STARTS TO GO OFF THE RAILS.

g1.jpg

Chapter 8.94 is a flashback where the student council president remembers how she first met the protagonist. It starts out with some delinquent boys cornering the president, and proceeding to sexually assault her. The chapter ends on a cliffhanger, to which we expect the following chapter to have the protagonist come help and save her.

NOPE! Next chapter is a long drawn out scene of the president getting sexually assaulted and beaten, and the delinquents getting ready to full-on rape her. The chapter ends with "CUMMING UP NEXT TIME... IS THE CLIMAX!"

Since the series was very light-hearted and silly up until this point, a lot of readers like myself are absolutely dumbfounded by the author. It wasn't an amazing series mind you, but never before have I seen a series become so degenerate in an instant.

Fascinating how it goes off the rails like that simply because the author decided to fuck with his readers who honestly liked how it started.

It seems like it wasn't selling well because of how oversaturated the genre is recently, so the author outright panicked and started writing whatever schlock would get people to pay attention to it somehow. It's a shame. Now he's going to be known as the guy who turned an unassuming slice-of-life comic into rape porn.

HOLYSHIT THIS SERIES.

Never before have I wanted to punch an author so badly over something so exceptional.

So you can guarantee this Gal☆Cleaning! is not going to get an animated adaptation any time soon? Or it will, but it'll be one of those trashy thee-minute-short series that end up including the rape like all those josei porn adaptations?

If this was the 90's, it probably could've landed a few volumes on tape/disc (OVA's) but that's about it.

I watched the entirety of Your Lie in April last night on Netflix and it fucked me up. =[

Why does it seem like guys in anime always so flustered or embarrassed when a girl is very "forward" with them?
My understanding of Japanese culture has lead me to believe that 90% of Japan has diagnosable autism. Normal, well adjusted people are the Chad Thundercocks of Japan and your average Japanese normie has no experience with that shit and will lose their marbles if they have to deal with them for any length of time. This neatly explains why the entire nation top to bottom are passive-aggressive incels.

How come American comics and European bande-desinee are always in color but Japanese manga is in black-and-white? Does Japan have a publishing cycle that is too accelerated to be able to accommodate addition of color, or is it a cost-savings decision?
I'm sure it's a little of both. A lot of these comics are printed weekly and I'm sure it makes sense to get them out on time by not having to worry about printing them any better than necessary, hence why many of them are printed cheaply on colored newsprint.

It's a little of both. There's manga in color out there, but the vast majority of it is black and white.

A lot of indie-type American and Canadian comics are in black-and-white, though. Scott Pilgrim was an obvious example although Oni Press later released a colour version. The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics from the early 1980s were also in black-and-white although I think colourized versions of those exist as well.

So uh, I just learned about this.

They're finally doing it. They're adapting the entire manga.

I'm not ready to go on a feels trip yet.

It seems to me that most of American and European comics are in color, with many where a "colorist" is given equal credit with the writer and inker as a separate staff position. Even for American and European indie comics, with digital art technology, now it is cheaper and faster than ever to do color for new comics, so I didn't notice very many that were black-and-white except as a stylistic choice.

After hearing a lot about it, I decided to watch Cromartie High School. I'm only on EP2, but so far it's pretty good.

I'd like to watch more early - mid 2000s anime, but i'm not sure where to start. What do you guys recommend?
