Newest ep of Zombie land saga has Lily come out as a trans. Doesn't help that Lily was barely gonna go thru puberty when he died of a heart attack over growing facial hair.

Fuck, another trap that Twitter will claim as some sort of acknowledgment of Japan towards troons or some stupid shit like that.

So, I've recently gotten myself back into Anime with Goblin Slayer and Attack on Titan. (At least until the 3rd season ends, since after knowing what happens doesn't interest me nearly as much).

I'm looking for modern anime in that sort of dark-fantasy/sci-fi vein. I've watched Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex. Any good horror-type/Dark Fantasy stuff along those lines? I'm not weeb enough to know this myself. I've already seen Death Note which was really good (despite becoming sort of meh after
L's Death
). Though I still enjoy it more than knowing what happens after AoT's first act, since Death Note didn't deviate from its themes and message.

Can any Kiwi weebs recommend me some stuff?

you watch jjba?

So is anyone familiar with that YouTuber who does that “What if X was an anime?” Because they apparently just posted a new one.

Not gonna lie, I would watch that movie. The animation style is very Late-90s-Sunrise. I approve.

Casshern Sins is highly underrated
I watched it when it aired and boy howdy do I not have the slightest clue what the whole thing is about, but I know one thing:
The atmosphere is fucking amazing and it's a hell of a ride through a dying world where everyone is either trying to survive, find peace, fight for the last few dregs of resources or just await their own ruin.

Space Brothers is very low-key, near-future SF about the (cancelled) Constellation program. It's an incredibly slow burn; the hero doesn't get into space until Volume 30+ of the manga, and the 99 episode TV series ends before that.

Welcome to the NHK is about depression, crippling social anxiety, and child abuse. It is a comedy. Unusual in that the moral is "Beat depression by getting a job, you lazy bum." And good for them.

I'm one of those filthy casuals, but I'll definitely recommend Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. If you want an anime that just embraces vulgarity, crudeness, dark humor, and weirdness, definitely check it out. You will not be disappointed.

I love how the dark melancholy atmosphere never dissipates for one second, the consistency was well executed. Even when there are those that have accepted the ruin find out the rumor of devouring casshern, their wish to live takes over and they end up suffering for it.
No one really gets a happy end in the conventional way. They find peace in living the last days of their life and finding happiness in every little thing in that time until they die.

The soundtrack is really amazing too.

Well, first thing that comes to mind is Hellsing Ultimate. Basically, it's about an English policewoman getting vampire'd, joining a secret English anti-occult agency, and promptly getting embroiled in a plot against England and her vampire master by a mysterious organisation that ends up being
artificially created Nazi vampires that went to ground in South America for 60 years

Tokyo Ghoul is pretty good, at least the first season of the anime. Parasyte: The Maxim is also worth watching.

Well weebs, mark your calendars and prepare ye selves, NGE is about to hit netflix in spring of next year.

Holy fucking shit it's about time Netflix got into the goddamn robot. Maybe this is a sign Sentai Filmworks are finally able to renew their license to distribute Blu-Rays, it's criminal that NGE hasn't been legally available (and affordable to get) in years.

In over a decade actually. Don’t know if this counts as a powerlevel, but I got the Platinum Edition DVDs as a birthday present, when I was about the same age as the characters in the show, and god knows where those are now.
