I just finished that, actually. It's better than the TV series, but I dunno, I guess I was expecting more... grandiose given how widely praised it is. It's Studio Deen at its finest, sure, but it's no Madhouse quality. I dunno, my mind was drifting off to the 2000 Vampire Hunter D movie and Ninja Scroll a few times (and at one point Tenchi Forever--which is funny since both that film and this OVA came out in the same year).

Maybe it should've been a little bit longer, I dunno.

Tenchi Forever always felt like Pioneer/AIC bought the rights to an interesting script for a standalone sci-fi/fantasy movie unrelated to anything else and inserted Tenchi Muyo (TV continuity) characters into it. I'm not saying I dislike the movie but it doesn't feel like a Tenchi Muyo production at all for like 2/3rds of the movie, unlike Tenchi Muyo in Love, which felt like a natural conclusion to the (1st) TV series.

The only thing that makes it feel like Tenchi is that the events that happened were once again, Yosho's fault.
 
Also, Tenchi actually had sex in Tenchi Forever, which was totally weird for a series that, admittedly, had some mild ecchi scenes before, mostly in the OVA continuity, but never came close to crossing the line into taking Tenchi's virginity. Though I guess it happened in an artificial side universe, so it arguably doesn't "count" as him losing his virginity.

Still, that is interesting to have in the back of your mind looking back! I think I only saw this film only once and remember thinking the same way you did about it not really feeling like a TM film.

New Vinland Saga chapter gave me the feels, man.
It's only 12 pages long, but you can read it without knowing the plot and characters, since it's pretty much standalone.

Also, quite fittingly, watched the rest of Angolmois.
It's a shame they clearly were on a tight budget, there's so many scenes where you can tell they had no money to spare and it ends up looking rather QUALITY, and there's a number of really odd choices with the story, pacing and plot structure but overall enjoyable.
A lot feels unresolved, unfortuantely and many ideas would need some refinement, but there's glimpses of genius here and there that make it worthwhile.

Just finished My Hero Academia (the anime) and it was a lot better than I expected. There might be a reason for that...


Seriously though, it's good.
 
So a random clip of an anime popped up in my YouTube recommendations, and when I originally saw it, I thought the joke was “oh, the protagonist’s aunt just seems extremely yandere, but she really isn’t”. So I Wikied it to get a plot synopsis.

Turns out she was extremely yandere for real, and is pretty fucked up in the head along with 95% of the cast.

The anime was Happy Sugar Life.
 
Just finished Grappler Baki manga. All of its good, except Baki-Duo
The 3rd season is surprisingly good too considering it's with Netflix, the fights are even more epic.

Oh yeah, I was wondering why the name sounded familiar. My brother got the first volume of the light novel from LootCrate and he was a little bit interested and looked into the manga. He was literally shocked that there was rape in the manga but not in the light novel, he was all like "Yo what the fuck?" and I was like "Lol oh Japan" when he told me.

Kinda hilarious White Fox decided to go with the manga version for the adaptation.
 
It feels really weird that all the sexploitation anime from the 90s is so far from people's memory nowadays that people will flip out at this sort of thing. I guess that's exactly the reaction they were seeking, though, trying to subvert a popular genre by making it grimdark. Nothing that hasn't been done before.

Makes me wonder if White Fox even heard about the Light Novel version before going ahead and adapting it.

I feel for the "I wasn't expecting that" guy.
Knew nothing about it except that /tg/ likes it. Starts off like a typical MMO anime but then gets really dark really quickly.

Yeah, just watched the first couple minutes and it starts out like a really bland fantasy isekai show and it suddenly shifts gears into full-blown wannabe-Berserk mode. That seems like the inspiration, mixing generic isekai with Berserk by adding some GRIMDERP and in terms of a plottwist it is kind of well executed, tbh. The first group is over-confident and cocky, advances without propper preparations or any precaution, split and then gets ambushed... and they get brutally murdered for it.
There seems to be little substance to the grimderp, but at least the show got feeble Twitterspergs' knickers in a bunch, so that's a plus.

Edit, in that regard, it reminds me a lot of Deadman Wonderland, that starts out like a really generic manga about some pupil and his friends at school and suddenly the whole rooms explodes and torn bodies lie fucking everywhere.
