'Kay I just got into a brief, somewhat heated discussion/argument with my brother over the ending of Soul Eater, and he says it's one of the most hated endings to an anime ever, and he was calling me stupid for thinking its a brilliant ending. Is there any merit to his claims? Was it really that hated?

Like I don't care either way as long as I enjoyed it, I just don't know what fans really think of it.
Not really. Like SteelPlatedHeart said, some purists were just upset that it took a different direction from the manga and “wasn’t faithful.” I thought it was fine.

Just read the latest One Piece, and I legitimately love how Oda keeps upping the ante.. Every time I think "Yeah, that's gonna be the last hurdle and they're gonna escape Big Mom's forces", a new wrinkle comes up and escalates the threat further..

Which I surprisingly love (I am the most impatient person ever), because it lends credibility to Big Mom's strength and capabilities, if the escape gets easy at any point, it makes the BM Pirates look like chumps.

I hope Oda is careful about writing himself into a corner though.. I honestly don't know how Luffy and Co. are gonna escape now!

This is easily the most uphill battle the Strawhats ever had to face. Which makes for a very tense and enjoyable arc.

The Best kind of cliffhanger. Is he actually the traitor? Or is he just being a new level of weird.

People did point out he kinda disappeared during that first villains attack.
Seems like it's gonna be a mix of both..

I have a feeling that Aoyama is gonna turn out to be an initially quirkless human who was powered up by A4O..

I just watched Cleopatra, and I honestly don't have a lot of words to say about it. I had seen Belladonna of Sadness not that long ago, and while that one was quite the trippy experience, this one was goofy in comparison, with some nice artistic styles here and there. Best way I can explain it is with pictures, even if I only really picked the weird moments to screencap.
I mean for starters, this is how the movie opens up:

I would've thought I downloaded the wrong file had it not been for the opening credits. It picks up from there, but still.

I took a screencap of this because Caesar here looks like Cobra to me, which given Osamu Dezaki's filmography doesn't surprise me (but he was already art director of 1001 Nights and I think he was too busy with Ashita no Joe to work on this film).

What you see in the first photos is actually Tezuka's parody of the Syncro-Vox technique used in Clutch Cargo. (And yes, the show did air in Japan.)

If you also look the Egyptians in the film are copies of popular manga characters of the time. You can see Sazae-san in one of the photos.

Did you see Belladonna of Sadness in the theaters? I did. I saw it with a friend who I thought would be the perfect guy to experience it with, and he said it felt like he was stoned. (He could only imagine what it felt like if you were stoned!)

Holy shit I almost forgot about that. That makes sense now, guess I was just distracted by how the clothes were making me think of the Fantastic Four.

I chose not to screencap it simply because I wanted to leave it a surprise for my friend (whom I'm going to send the file to here soon), but there was also a brief cameo in which Cleopatra cried out "Someone save that man!" and it cuts to Astro Boy (theme song included) for a moment. It was really random, but the film was already goofy prior to that scene, so I didn't think much of it.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I did a quick read-up while I was waiting for the film to download, and the movie apparently did get a limited release in the States right around the same time as Fritz the Cat and was even advertised in the same way. It bombed hard, though, so anything related to the dub no longer exists.

I didn't, I only heard of its limited release after it happened, so I had to dig around for the subs. But he's right, I felt like I was stoned off of my mind watching it, and it was such a weird experience. And because it was such a weird feeling, I honestly don't want to watch it ever again, which is a shame because the art is quite beautiful and I liked the music. Someone somewhere might've actually seen it stoned, and I hope they didn't get a heart attack from it lol.

Here's an article from what is perhaps the best anime blog you can find out there, that shows that it was shown in America, but not dubbed - just subtitled: http://letsanime.blogspot.com/2015/11/at-movies.html (Note that the review shown says "It is difficult to imagine anyone being aroused by the naked breasts of a cartoon character." If that reviewer could see the Internet today!)

Just saw Mary and the Witch's Flower in theaters. No spoilers but it succeeded very well in being a pseudo-Ghibli movie, mostly in the way of having long, slow-paced moments that are either more introspective or based around exploration followed by intense and fluidly animated action sequences. I enjoyed it a lot, and to boot the dub was actually really good.

Gate the manga not the anime has been on my backlog for a long time now. Is it worth a read or will I be horribly disappointed?

I've heard it's really hamfisted about the author's politics, to the point it's basically beating you over the head that the JDSF is godly and Japan is the only good country in the world. Shame, since the idea is a neat one.

The mangaka did serve in the JDSF.

I'm thinking of rewatching the 2003 anime of Fullmetal Alchemist for old time's sake.

FMA 2003 was my favorite anime when I was in middle school, and I'd stay up every night it would air on Adult Swim to watch it.

As heretical as this may sound, and I have said this before, but I vastly prefer FMA 2003 to Brotherhood. While Brotherhood is more faithful to the manga, I simply prefer the story and setting of the first anime over that of the manga. Not to say that Brotherhood is bad, because it's actually a fairly decent show. But it feels more like a generic shonen when compared to FMA 2003.

Though I did hate it in the early 2010's when Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood came out and everyone was shitting on the first anime solely because it didn't follow the manga completely. That got old pretty quick.

Do it. The 2003 series is so under appreciated and gets shat on waaay too much.
Confession: I still haven't seen either and I think I will try to keep an open mind and watch both.

The thing about the two is that tonally they're so different. Brotherhood is significantly lighter-hearted and has a more rounded art style like the manga, while 2003 is darker and has a more serious one. They both have merits over the other, as much as I love Brotherhood I think the soundtrack from 2003 is much better. That, and Ready Steady Go is THE FMA opening for me.

Both series are awesome for me.

I do have much more of a nostalgic attachment to the 2003 version though, it was my gateway into anime that wasn't stuff like Pokemon or Digimon.

I do kinda prefer the ending to the manga (and by extension Brotherhood) simply because I wanted all these characters that I grew to like so much to be happy. And I got just that.

This theme right here. This will never leave me.

This is like super cliché, but this song is what got me to like the 2003 anime over Brotherhood, and I've yet to come across another song like this in any other anime. (Although I hear the soundtrack to Terror in Resonance is very unique in that regard.)
