Happy Fourth of July, fellow American weebs! Time to go back and relive a dark time in anime's American history and count our lucky stars (and stripes) we survived it.

Tsurezure Children is prob the best thing airing this season.

Funnily enough, I discovered that the Pokémon dub has acknowledged the existence of rice balls within the same season. So it makes me think it depends on who the writer of that episode is, or if it's because Brock was making them on-screen and thus they couldn't use the "donuts" excuse. Most likely it's the latter, buuuut I want to give the first season dub script the benefit of the doubt since there are instances of Japanese culture that remained intact compared to later seasons.

This is my favorite "donuts" moment, though (the entire segment, really, but I'm skipping to my favorite line-read of James'):

I'm five episodes into Kino's Journey, and damn is it somber, like holy shit, I didn't expect this series to be this melancholic for a philosophical road trip anime. I was getting bummed out by the third episode, then that fourth episode happened--my brother came downstairs getting ready for bed and he had no clue what was going on, just kept saying "What the heck???"

The OP and ED are very nice, however, the latter especially. Just can't go wrong with Ai Maeda.

The second half has a good deal more hopeful moments. Still pretty soul-crushing when it wants to be but also worth the journey.

Humanity Has Declined is very similar and has some great episodes.

I suppose shows like these work for me otherwise since that's how I view the world to.

The world is not beautiful. Therefore it is.

I've been reading A Chef of Nobunaga since last night. 1) It makes me want to improve my culinary skills, 2) It makes me want to study Nobunaga and 3) I'm probably going to check out the live-action version sometime.

Decided to revisit the halcyon days of my twelve-year old weeb self and rewatch both InuYasha and the 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist anime. I forgot how awesome those shows were despite their flaws, though that may be the nostalgia talking. I'm also gonna rewatch Trigun and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex for similar reasons.

I know I'll get some flak for this, but I unironically prefer the 2003 FMA anime to Brotherhood, even if Brotherhood is more faithful to the manga. The first anime's story was more enjoyable to me than the story of the manga/Brotherhood.

I'm being a little picky with what I'm watching this season in that I'd rather watch the short anime than full-fledged series, so the only two series I'm watching (thus far, might pick up more later) are Dive!! and Princess Principal. The former's meh, just has some really pretty background art and that's about it, not really feeling much going for it. The latter, however, holy shit. That's a fantastic first episode, I was wholly impressed with it, the most surprising being the OP. Here's to hoping it keeps it up.

I'm right there behind you--and I saw FMA for the first time two years ago, so I got no nostalgic value for it.

Honestly both versions of Fullmetal are excellent shows. You can't go wrong for liking either.

As for the current season of anime, I am watching jack shit. After Yowamushi Pedal suddenly ended( the last episode didn't really feel like one.) I haven't been looking for anything. After a quick look on anichart, nothing really catchs my eye, other then Konosuba geting another OVA episode and oddly enough I found out a manga I like got a ONA going on. It isn't licensed which is why I never found out about It(I check Anicharts once in a blue moon). might give a few of the show currenly airing a watch on my day off.
