Miyazaki gets an obscene amount of unjustified cred from normies and people using it for muh degeneracy complaints for no real reason. There are way more impactful directors than him, and his work is mostly safe messages and visuals. I want to make the comparison with Disney, but Disney has an actual legacy both in culture and works. Miyazaki is more like George RR Martin.

I still can't figure it out. Was Miyazaki for imperialism and comfort women stuff? He strikes me as being more of a conservative.

I only chose Miyazaki because the other popular director is far worse and overhyped. (Not Oshii but you know who).

Who? I can't think of another Jap fitting it, even with flavour of the week like AoT or Oshi no Ko it would get forgotten in few years.
I'd put him more like Go Nagai, yeah there's a massive gulf in abilities between the two, but they both embraced the slop and defined a medium. Plus both being a functional human being (as far as I know).

Im afraid Drama Queen is about to turn into subversive slop. They trying to paint Lally into a victim of bullying because he gets falsely accused of touching a girl, that will somehow justify aliens being allowed to run amok and treat others like garbage.
Trying to make Lally be "one of the good ones" for not wanting to abuse the system for gibs.

Japan has leaned heavily into the "sympathy for the devil" nonsense that progressives have pushed in the West for years in a lot of their media based off of what I have seen. Normally I can tolerate it, so long as the universe bothers to establish that ackshually the demons aren't supernatural monsters from hell but rather some subspecies of human, but when the story goes out of the way to paint the aliens as monsters, it really should just stick with that. This to me is as bad an idea as Frieren At The Funeral introducing a demon who isn't like the other demons and just wants to grill and stuff and is misunderstood due to no fault of its own.

Ehh, I'm not too worried about it. Kitami has already had the epiphany that "individual aliens can be all right, but I still hate them as a group and want the rest dead" when he thought Lily~♪ was on his side. Also, he's already pushing back against Lily~♪'s story in this chapter by questioning how he can even know what happened if he wasn't around for it.
I don't expect it to stay as a one-dimensional "Total Alien Death" manga, but I doubt it's going to turn around into "the aliens are just misunderstood" either. The mangaka has gone too hard on showing how fucked up the system is and how the average alien is an asshole willing to take advantage of it for their own gain. If anything, this flashback is showing that Lily~♪ played a part in Lally~★'s death by pushing him to take advantage of the system and fueling the human student's resentment of the aliens.

Drama Queen turned into slop before the concert. The author shot himself in the foot by making Nomamoto, the main character, one dimensional, and giving all the spotlight to Kitami, a guy whos very reckless, but that's ok.

Princess Mononoke and Howl's Moving Castle are my favorites, but I still have to see all Miyazaki movies.
Really ? Apart from Makoto Shinkai and Satoshi Kon no one comes to mind if I think about it. Miyazaki is the go-to guy for "normies". And I don't think that the approachability of his work is a problem. Not to mention that there is the possibility that someone completely oblivious to anime at least heard of Miyazaki/Ghibli or one of his movies. This that the case for a lot of other people involved in anime too ?

I compared him to Jordan Peele for one specific reason: social commentary disguised as plots. Doesn't even have to be racism (for Peele), it is absolutely disingenious to even be called a writer if you use "insert social issue" as a crutch for writing your stories. If anything, it makes you close to being left-sided.
