Just finished the Chivalry Of A Failed Knight anime.

I gotta say, it's a huge shame that it never got a second season. Because it was, while not a masterpiece, surprisingly entertaining. It had characters that actually talked things out with each other, a tsundere that gets over her violent tendencies very early on, a romance that grows throughout the story and also allows for the pair involved to undergo character development, and while it was pretty much a trope-fest, it executed them admirably.

Damn this season sucks dick. I was sorta looking forward to OPM season 3, even after season 2 was not very good, but with all the bad news about it, I don't want to be disappointed. Guess I will go back to watching Chaika.

This has probably been posted before, but is anyone else sick of this shit "anime" artstyle from western studios? It looks ugly as shit i hate it so much. That tomb raider show that everyone forgot about and the LoTR animated thing comes to mind
Yeah, it's all derivative trash that nobody actually likes and has zero cultural relevancy whatsoever. My mom has "watched" some of them and claims they're good, but she is the exact kind of target audience since she just has the shows on as background noise while she scrolls bluesky or reddit (yeah, I know) and only looks up if it gets noisy.
The new One-Punch Man season began just as everyone feared. The entire episode is basically just a bunch of still shots with flapping lips. A glorified slideshow, more or less.
I know it's because the studio doesn't care, but it's wild that SOL CGDCT are able to make people just talking somewhat visually appealing and full of movement, but these guys apparently can't be bothered. A generous interpretation would be that they're saving money for the action scenes, but it's still a bad start even if that's the case. I didn't expect much after season 2, but I don't know if I will even try this one.
Any good anime this season? It's absolutely barren besides some sequels.
Not that I have seen. Seems like a pretty bad season, so time to work on those backlogs, or do something else.

What romance? These characters are sexless.
That actually helps make my point even better. Despite my memery the point is that lust is not the same thing as love. Himmel's unconditional love for Frieren is something I haven't seen often in animu. Love enough to realize your "would-be partner" is an elf who would have to deal with your inevitable death. Love enough not to force your feelings openly onto someone who has to deal with eternity. Love enough to go without love yourself because you love that person so much. Love enough to realize your would-be partner might not be emotionally mature enough to reciprocate your feelings. Himmel might not get pussy, but a chad is a chad.

Frieren is literally a show about an elf hag learning what true love is via the 3rd person, and realizing that she loves the dead man who loved her so much he died without confessing his feelings in order to spare her the pain of loving a dead man. And by chapter 117 Frieren is so head over heels in love with Himmel that her sublime dream, one a demon tries to use against her, is marrying Himmel.

Well there's the awkward teenage shit between Fern and Adol that's so drawn-out that another character yells JUST FUCK ALREADY at one point. And there's not really anyone else around.

It's not really about that. I don't think she even knows if she loves him, it's more regret that she was so blind to everything because she didn't value time, or understand how others see life, that she never had the opportunity to decide. Yet her life still isn't over yet and her basic feeling that she'll have more time is still true, so it's about the process (and results) of her introspection undertaken so that she won't have the same regrets next time.
(Also some hiking she's trying to do without feeling like she's cynically exploiting some human kids so that she can recreate the circumstances necessary to test that insight--seeing Himmel again is just an excuse. She's curious about the legend and wouldn't mind being pleasantly surprised, but she doesn't really buy it.)

Liking Frieren or not is a pretty good way to spot who isn't sad enough yet because they're under 30 or whatever, and you can't really blame anyone who doesn't cry errytime since unlike Evangelion there's far fewer compensatory giant robot fights.

Has there been any good sports anime in the past few years?
The last one I ended up watching that I can for sure call a sports series was Yowamushi Pedal, and they kinda screwed up the last season that most people have lost all interest.
Blue Lock was somewhat unintentional funny because they set it like a death game and chacters act like it's one, but no actually dies, they just loses the chance to play soccer. And it was more funny seeing the initial reaction to season 2 then anything else.
Blue Box I don't really consider a sports anime, more a romcom where the leads just happen to play sports.
Maybe Cinderella Gray, although I don't know how many people consider it and the mainline Uma Musume anime sports series.

fern has titties
That has nothing to do with personality and characterization unless you think character design is all you need from an anime.

I have no idea where you're getting any of this from. There's no suggestion it was romantic from either side, readers just assume that it is because what else could a relationship between a man and woman be?
The whole deal behind the first chapter's drama was that Frieren was feeling regret over how she hadn't really bothered to know Himmel despite the time they spent together, and the flashbacks are illustrations that maybe she had known him and just never appreciated what she considered the small moments before then. Trying to simplify it into romance seems like you don't even care WHAT their characters are and just want to see anime designs kissing.
Or you're trolling and just want to dump your image folder under the guise of "discussion" like every worthless shitposter on /a/.

There's no chemistry between them. They just hang out together. Adol gets the shit end of the screentime stick because he's not a mage, and Fern has no goddamn personality beyond playing nanny to Frieren.

They have the exact same relationship as Ranma and Akane and that was a something something romantic sex something manga. You may have autism.

That's the joke.

Haikyuu isn't exactly "new" but that's considered among the bests of its genre even if you don't care for volleyball. Run with the Wind from the same staff is about college track and field is also excellent. Since you watched Yowamushi Pedal another cycling anime you can check out is Nasu: Summer in Andalusia which leads more into character drama but is more subdued and is still about the competetion of the sport (the sequel is entirely focus on cycling and not as good).

Blue Lock is a meme show that attracts the "hype and aura" zoomer crowd who consume the show mostly through gifs and reaction images other than that its pretty garbage as a sports anime about on par with shit like Prince of Tennis.

The author really cucked from making it be a fantasy horror death game and into generic shonen slop. At least the villains are literal degenerate trannies.
True. There are almost none of the horror elements in the later half of the season. After the forest the rest of the island is bland and non-threatening. The only danger so far seems to be the tensen and their disciples, who are intelligent and don't have any horror element to them. I thought it was so cool when there was a dark, forboding influence over the island that was twisting nature. With the tensen the author had a great opportunity to make interesting body horror, but instead they are just colorful hedonists who are one-dimensional. I was imagining something like Annihilation and instead I got Demon Slayer but with more gooner bait and less interesting villains.

It's still unquestionably a romance though with a decades long journey to reminiscence, ending the series at "just friends" will be Star Wars TLJ esque level of stupid.

Fern being emotionless started okay, but by now it's just annoying and she has no character. Adol is like an arc character who's shtick got old fast.

It did start recently, but I’m actually glad 3-nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-sensei is a good anime that is currently doing well. Seeing the previews for the next episode when watching the original version of Gintama for the first time and watching Gintoki being a high school teacher is probably the best thing I’ve seen. They keep the original what it was while actively creating more attempts at gag humor, mixed with the attempts of making both the supporting characters and leads shine equally.

This is honestly getting up there as potential Anime of The Year™ material, even though the Fall season is still in the early stages.

Honestly the best parts of SxF are the pure SoL moments or the pure SHTH moments. I'm glad they bother to tackle the brutalist elements of a war story and basically call out both sides as fucking about, not that the modern bellcurve audience will pick up the subtext from that and connect it to real world wars. Which in and of itself is a lesson about 1-dimensional propagandizing for 80 years.

National politics are like onions

I liked the flashback overall, but it needed a bit more to show Lloyd's skills and reasons to become jaded with the war.

And yet Tokyo Babylon will never get a proper adaptation lmao.
It's a shame the character designer on the reboot was stealing outfits. There's like three or four completed episodes in the can on some anime director's hard drive.
