Fushigi Yuugi has turned 30 years old today. Should they adapt the prequel manga Genbu Kaiden to anime?

Mahouka is solipsistic as hell and drowning in lunacy such as "The sister wants to fuck the MC and in fact should be allowed to because they're genetically designed to create an even stronger superbaby if they elope" or "everyone who doesn't like the status quo is just jealous and should stop complaining, look how well the blatantly overpowered MC is adapting after all". It was one of the biggest shows of 2014.

Mahouka is nowhere near as well recieved as Made in Abyss and there's nobody willing to go up for bat for it considering it came out during the "Battle School Rom-Com" fad from a decade ago. In fact I don't think anyone really gives a fuck about Mahouka's existence despite it having three seasons and three movies under its belt. I only really remember the series due to how much of an unapologetical Gary Stu the MC is.

When the City Hunter manga got announced, I was worried the price would be too ludicrous. Thankfully, 30 bucks for twenty-five chapters for volume one sounds reasonable, and it won't stick out on the shelf.

Hopefully the localization isn't pozzed given this is City Hunter.

This is the guy who's translating it, so if your your aware of any localization shit in any of these series you probably know what to expect.

Amazon and some other sites have the first chapter and a half readable as a sample and the only pozzed things seemed to be:

Although this was also removed from the japanese complete edition from 2003, but no clue on the 2004 english version (apparently a company called Gutsoon! released 4 volumes in the US along side a handful of Slam Dunk and First of the NorthStar before going bankrupt)

And one or two questionable translations:

Hot take but Gintama is probably one of the only anime series that I would say 100% deserves to populate the top MAL spots. It's really that good.

Nigger fuck off. The golden city arc is practically a rehash of dawn of the deep soul. Both of these feel like you just got to learn about the past of a newly introduced character and at the end of the arc there's a new character added to the main cast. You don't actually see developments in the plot that will be relevant to what follows, nor do you see much development of the cast.
The world building of made in abyss also isn't astonishing. There's no doubt that it's cool and unique, but it doesn't feel very interconnected. There aren't many elements of the world that are relevant to other elements and ultimately the story.

Gintama gets hard carried by the appeal of the first series since every subsequent series after is worse than it and FINAL is just a cashgrab but because there's a very small dedicated fandom always watching it always gets a high placement. In fact the Gintama anime hard carries the entire franchise because nobody gives a shit about the manga or else they would be way more critical of it given how terrible the final stretch of it was.

That artwork is in the omnibus. Kinda a little subdued, though, compared to that scanlation quality, but it's in it. I also had to look up to see if there was ever actually pubic hair shown in the manga (the scene with the first full-frontal female nudity), and it looks like it wasn't ever there to begin with. So as far as I can tell, the artwork is being left alone.

"Throwaway society" or "age of disposal" doesn't bother me, though it is interesting they chose to avoid mentioning "rape-murder". They kinda had to dance around the idea of the victims (possibly) being prostitutes, though Japan kinda likes to do that too. "Flirt" is still an interesting choice that I wasn't bothered by it.

"Indiscriminate female-victim" is rather dumb, however, like it's obvious he's targeting girls just standing around on the corner at night regardless if they're actual prostitutes or not. Outside of that, the manga's still flowing nicely. I tried to read a scanlation a little while back and it was obvious it was an ESL doing it, though I dunno why the Gutsoon! versions weren't available on ComicK.

And with that the first popularity poll will commence for kgb. There was also an interview between the two creators. Also now that this week is done I do hope hokozano recovers he's been being slave drived like gege during the sukuna cycle he had to do 5 color pages between these 2 weeks while dealing with New York Times (the jump cover), Burger King (3 new drawings no color tho), and an interview (colored izuku) So the chapter quality has been low but despite that this chapter we got excellent panels despite the overworking you just can see it with unfinished characters.

I've never read City Hunter before, but from I can tell that old fan translation sucks. In the top example the new official translation is a pretty literal translation, while the fan translation calling the boxer a "sissy" seems to come out of nowhere. I can only guess the scanlator didn't know the word ツキ is slang for "luck" so he just made something up.

In the bottom example the official translation is also more literal, so the point even that that bottom-right balloon is worded kind of awkwardly. The fan translation's "Why do they go out at night?" is plain wrong, and the official translation has it right, although it's taking some liberty in translating 夜遊び as "flirting" in those couple lines (it literally just means "playing at night"). I think the "rape murder" part could be a point in the fan translation's favor though. The original Japanese text is using the word 暴行 which literally means "a violent act" and could just describe someone acting violent or assaulting someone, but it's also used as a euphemism for rape. Since the victims are all women and it's being used in conjunction with the word for "murder" (殺人) which would be pretty redundant if taken literally, I'm guessing the rape euphemism is what they mean. So the fan translation is bit blunt actually using the word "rape" outright, but is correct, while the official translator didn't seem to catch what was meant and so skipped the word 暴行 in the first use of it and translated it the bottom-right balloon as describing the serial killer as "violent" (a murderer is violent? no shit?).

Good to know, I did initially think the new translation was just trying to pussy foot around using the word rape like how some jewtubers will come up with the absolute dumbest way to word some things to not get their precious ad revenue taken away but it sounds like it is a possible tamer reading of the word (it was original published in shonen jump back when kids where actually their main demographic so I could see it going either way).
Still seems a bit awkward in that specific bubble, although it does seem to be describing the case as being violent and not the murderer himself, it still comes off as an obvious "water is wet" statement.
