Been slowly watching Spice and Wolf season one these couple of days. Good shit- really laid back and comfy to watch.

I've heard a lot of very good things about it on /m/ through the years. Apparently it's more focused on the mysticism than the /m/, but that's usually the case with Ryosuke Takahashi's stuff.

It's different, that's about as much as I can say about it since it wasn't my cup of tea. But it's leagues better than Brain Powerd, just fuck that shit, I'm not getting those brain cells back.

Isn't it basically on record (or several records) that Japanese fans don't give a shit about the Major being played by a white woman? And really, even if the live-action GitS movie had actual Japanese actors throughout, was Tumblr really going to see the movie? They're the minority anyway, it wasn't like they were going to have an impact on its box office sales, which I predict will be better than Fembusters, but it will still be considered a flop.

I was a bored brave soul, but I'm kind of a glutton for punishment when it comes to these things, and I knew going into it that it was done by a complete amateur (I think they have an actual Pixiv, didn't bother looking them up). My brothers berate me for daring to say something is "meh" or "bad" if they like it, which is hilarious but irritating, and this was no exception.

I watched How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend the other day--more like How to Make a Boring Anime amirite. Fucking hell, anything A-1 Pictures touches becomes shit, even if the original source material is shit. How do they do that?
 
2 be fair alot of talent comes from pixiv. Some of them even get anime shows. 3 of them in less than 4 years even. :cough: Kobayashi :cough:

Saekano is different but I can see how you would be bored by it. I...um liked that show. Would give it a 6/10 even. Hell I enjoyed the Working! spin off as well. Romances are my Achilles' heel.

I think this is a pretty good idea since there's a better chance of finding original material online (and the non-shounen manga we'd like to get adapted don't always get adaptations), but it just feels like things get lost in adaptation, or the original ideas aren't as original. Or maybe I've just become a cynic who believes a lot of modern anime just stinks.

Saekano is different but I can see how you would be bored by it. I...um liked that show. Would give it a 6/10 even. Hell I enjoyed the Working! spin off as well. Romances are my Achilles' heel.

I could see where Saekano was coming from, but it gets annoying to have characters point out clichés all the freaking time because subtlety's for the weak or something. It also started to fall in the same ecchi/harem traps it was apparently poking fun of, so that's where it lost me. (I'll still end up watching the second season, but I'll wait until it's complete.) I love romances, but I think after watching CLANNAD, I just can't help seeing the same clichés being done in the same way over and over again and unrealistically wishing more romances were like CLANNAD. I think that's why I liked My Love Story!! and Ao Haru Ride so much because they were different despite playing with the same clichés, but they also didn't feel like wish-fulfillment anime.

No, you are right. Most adaptations have many original anime only content in it and fillers in general. So much that it just looks like another generic anime when it offers something entirely different. There aren't that many studios that do a series justice/to the letter. Kyoani for example started out good this season but has since said fuck it and made filler episodes from small chapters. Because rather than show conflict we gotta have a festival, Christmas and new year's episode right?

Oh My Love Story shat all over most romance anime in general it isn't anywhere close to Saekano's harem like focus. The fact that is based around a man that was not attractive (pretty boy) but had a strong personality made it for me. Gouda was just awesome and the romance stuff didn't seem to be rushed or took the entirety of the series to bloom. If we have to compare Saekano to any show it would be Shoujo tachi wa Kouya wo Mezasu. (which sadly came after and got alot of shit for it) But you know, way better because the mc isn't shit like Saekano's. But then again only I seem to think that since almost nobody liked Mezasu.

I fucking love Gouda, everything about him was perfect (I'm a bit nervous about the English dub even though it's Andrew Love playing him). Rinko by definition should've gotten on my nerves especially with her squeaky voice, but she was adorable, and they balanced each other out very well. Sunakawa being the pretty boy best friend I think was definitely needed to help his character, though, and their bromance has to be the best bromance I've seen in fiction in years. If Madhouse has no plans for a second season, I'll happily read the manga if only to see what happens to him.

...yeah, I found it to be a dull show... Again, I can see where they were going with it, but nothing was keeping my attention long enough to care. But I didn't realize people were talking shit about it unlike with Classroom☆Crisis (hoo boy), it came off to me as one of those anime that went under a lot of folk's radars.

I dunno why, but I kinda want to compare Saekano to NetoYome, which is a show I ended up liking even though its subject material is usually something I'm not a fan of. There was just something really endearing about it despite it being one of those "wallflower" shows, as I call them.

You should read Our Happy Hours. It's short, sweet and a lot different from the usual highschool romance. Just two depressed people trying to cheer up together.

They are the King of fucking over yuri elements of a series if anything. Were they THAT scared of showing one fucking character? Ugh. Completely disgusted. Also don't expect a S2 from Madhouse ever. I dropped that "there are no girls on the internet" anime after episode 3. No idea how that went.

I thought it was to be a theatrically-released movie, not Netflix. Was it always intended for Netflix? Eh, at least I'll get to watch it in the comfort of my own home from the start, bring the whole family and be further judged for my tastes in animu.

Think the only thing it's got going for it is Willem DaFoe as Ryuk, it's probably the best casting choice at this point. I joked to a buddy they'd find a way to superimpose his face onto the character, but I don't want that to be the case lol.

I feel... sad. But it's a good kind of sad.

Gonna have to read the original novel at some point.
