TOP 10 UNEXPECTED BRAND CROSSOVERS

I struggle to think of any isekai from the last 20 years that doesn't have game elements. Even Re;Zero that's relatively old has a character with cheats, and I think the magic system also had levels.
How is that different from every fantasy series over the last 20 years with a vaguely medieval Europe setting
Dungeon meshi and Goblin Slayer both had a lot of of tabletop game elements and you can't convince me that Himel didn't start as a generic dragon quest/JRPG hero character before the author started to add more depth to him and most of the cast in Frieren.

He is not your rolling wheels, he is the highway. He is not your carpet ride, he is the sky.

SxF continues to hint at Yuri's fears being a very specific kind of doujin.

I need to watch back where I originally quit. I think it was when fox girl found her mentor was a traitor.
It's worth it. Fair warning, the ending is going to be weird, but given how they did episode 1, I'd say they're handling the madness well

The whole isekai discussion has actually made me surprised their isn’t a Wizard of Oz Isekai where it’s a Japanese Farmboy getting a harem of a Scarecrow woman, Robot tin woman, Catgirl Lion, conwoman hag, green skin hag witch, and other shit.

Sincerely, that writes itself. Toto is already a fucking mascot character. Munchkins.

There is.
Maybe a few actually manga updates has its own tag for wizard of Oz and there's a little over a dozen.
From a quick glance 2-3 or direct adaptations and another few seem to be very loose reimaginings (if anyone remembers a romcom called boarding school Juliet, they seem to have as much relation to Oz as that had with Romeo and Juliet)
Closest one to a normal isekai seems to be this one

There was some report one one of the number guys who does the manga sales made and I think they estimate about 9000 unique manga titles in 2024, so more often than not there's probably a manga about something specific, but it probably so niche (and got axed in a few volumes) that it'll never surface online

Why is it "Os" and not "Oz"? "Oz" is well in the public domain (at least if you're basing it on the L. Frank Baum books and not the 1939 movie), even under Japanese laws.

I suppose "Os" could just be the author distinguishing his or her take on Oz from any previous version (as opposed to "Wizald" which is obviously a spelling mistake due to Japanese writers confusing Ls and Rs).

So Lazarus's first episode is essentially a Mirror's Edge OVA.
Nothing of substance, unfortunately.
It's a Cartoon Network production, right? I knew they were aiming for a reskinned Cowboy Bebop, but after seeing how the FLCL sequels turned out, I'm not expecting much from the company that let an intern doodle over a sketch of Spike Spiegel made by the character designer during his visit to the studio.

I started reading Kimi wa Yotsuba no Clover. I heard about the big overall twist of the story(it’s what got me curious to read it in the first place), but holy shit that chapter about the “other” childhood friend was unexpected.

That dude gotta go.

I am mildly optimistic for Katainaka no Ossan, it seems to retain the good somewhat HEMA inspired fighting style of the manga and the CG isn't vomit inducing but actually kind of nice, reminds me a bit of Batman Ninja 2 which I've watched recently. I really like the slight hand movements and the fact that you can keep up with the blades moving instead of having them flash all over the place.

I've also just remembered the majority of the character dynamic is his ex-students wanting to jump his bones and him going
  • hot singles in MY area? Wanting to fuck me? Doing the sex with me? Surely not! *humble beta noises* *misunderstandings*
  • EHHH? People think that I'M a good swordsman? Surely not! *humble beta noises* *misunderstandings*
  • People... prasing ME? Surely not! *humble beta noises* *misunderstandings*
Without it at least being comedically dense ala I Parry Everything but eh fuck it I'm starved for good fight animation so I'll give it a pass for now, plus the redhead with abs is kind of hot. Please don't run out of budget like two episodes in and please get to the church knight arc.
Also I never realized how retarded his fingerless gloves look.

Is it one of those depressing stories similar to Boy's Abyss?

Kinda the reverse actually.

Guy is heavily being bullied and picked on in school, family treats increadibly shitty, is close to killing himself…when suddenly childhood friend comes back into his life and starts being incredibly supportive of him and making sure he’s really really happy. She keeps having moments where she prevents something that was about to negatively affect him like she knew ahead of time. It’s revealed a former friend is behind all the bullying happening to the guy, and when she starts getting that revealed, former friend snaps and kills main guy.

Only then is it fully revealed that the girl is a time traveler and is constantly going back in time over and over to get the best results possible for main guy because he did actually originally kill himself in the original future, and she’s been working to give him the best possible future(along with find out just why main guy’s life went to such an extreme shitty state almost out of nowhere.) She’s essentially just been playing out multiple different scenarios to get the best resolution out of it for main guy.
