Is Rance good? All I've heard it's if the MC from Konosuba was able to do everything he wanted to do
They aren't really anime as much as they are games but Japan loves Rance X more than anything else so I'd say so.

You're never going to get the Japanese to treat the war like the Germans did.
Nor should they. The entire duty of the state in war is to destroy the enemy so thoroughly and leave their morale so broken that they end the war sooner rather than drag it out.

Lets not pretend like the Chinese would have been more benevolent had the shoe been on the other foot. It was war, shit happens, and its probably high time to stop blaming the Japanese for shit that happened in a conflict before most of them were even alive.

>Why yes, I will consoom muh shonen and moe because Japan sure knows how to get a formula down! I guess that's what happens when you've got a Panda Express on every street or something

Is Miyazaki just one of those soft leftists (not a full blown commie) who can’t adapt to new issues and just beats his drum because otherwise he’d an out of touch old man?

Koreans kinda try to ape Holocaust survivors with the Comfort Women shit, but the abuse of the surviving ones kinda is a controversy of itself. You’re moving into an era where no one gives a shit because the bulk of the population is at least 2-3 generations removed. There are bigger issues. No one really gives a shit beyond some old faggots who keep crying about it.

I'll gladly take ten thousand generic "war is bad" morality plays over one single "VOTE LIKE ME OR THE NAZIS WIN" propaganda pieces.
"War is bad" eventually led to "vote like me or the Nazis win". It's very very obvious and has been for a very long time, it's just people were not aware of the shift when it happened. This is a bit off topic but the documentary shoah had some Soviet union members in its crew. Battle of Algiers was made by an open communist. Lot of celebrated "anti war" movies were made by communists. This doesn't mean war is good but war is bad propaganda movies are not good and become kind of stale after a point.

Disillusioned marxist, became disillusioned I think around the time the Soviet union fell, I have to check Wikipedia and the sources. In other words hes just old and angey, not necessarily out of touch. He's a proto sjw if I can put it that way, he believes in the "evil races are bad game design" bullshit which is why he hates people like Tolkien. Doesn't make his movies bad though.

Ding ding ding. You are very right. It's a boiling of the frog that has happened for decades. You didn't get "strong whamen" in the same way you didn't get "suck the tranny dick" or "the nigger is better than you" overnight. This is very gradual propaganda (or being charitable, belief in optimistic morality) that has gone in steps, problem is they hit the pedal very fucking hard in the later years an the frog is very much noticing.

All of the "war is bad" pisses me off for the most part because it's to pacify the population. "Violence is never the answer", bullshit, it's very much the answer the state applies on you, the state just doesn't want you aware that it can work both sides.

I'll again be charitable and assume that Hayao being a kid right after the nukes fell, Japan had it's famines with later pax americana coming into the equation. He really doesn't want that to happen again and that's the sum of it. I would also like to know if he just says "don't forget when we were monsters" or if it's also a "for we should grovel for forgiveness", though mind you, pushing the first eventually leads to the second, but it's still 2 very different messages.

I'm also at this point in "conqueror's right" sort of territory. After seeing how much damage "apologizing for a dark nations past" does, I rather just be outright evil and tell them to fuck off and if they didn't like how shit went down, maybe they shouldn't have lost. Is it extremely cruel? Very, but I honestly prefer that over suicide by empathy like I'm seeing in the west.

And that's enough politipserging from me.

Anybody reads Kindergarten Wars? The author is being an asshole and is still keeping under wraps if Doug is ok dammit!

It really depends. It's not like decades of those films in the USA made the population or government docile, more like having them be anti war unless the elites say they should and then it's okay.

War is bad is just a shitty empty faggot moral, no fucking shit it's bad but if you want peace, prepare to war.

I heard of this since the website was made. Disney plus though, what the fuck, why? I want to assume it's rights holders but I feel like tsukasa hojo is whoring out his properties to highest bidder as of late with the city hunter Netflix and now this.

What I meant is people who push explicit one sided propaganda generally have a vested interest in something else, something possibly heinous. Any piece of media which tries to force people to think a certain way is going to be a propaganda piece inevitably made by certain kinds of people. Before the 70s, WWII was treated as something fun/cool and not that thing which the Nazis did. Even when it was happening people were less focused on the holocaust and and more focused on things like the African campaign, invasion of Poland, occupation of France etc. It reflected on the media of the time like great escape, dirty dozen, kelleys heroes, guns of the navarone, where eagles dare, night of the generals, five graves to Cairo, Indiana Jones etc. it was only after the 70s when the "war bad" propaganda disseminated media worldwide, most of it definitely done by Soviet union supporters.

The PS5 had no games, so Sony had no choice but to say yes.
I think you mean exclusives? Because this year doesn't have too many games anyways. Atlus has like 2 on the Playstation in 2024 but they are also available on Steam, so they don't count.

Speaking of Sony though, I found this.

So yeah, Sony can compromise anime very easily any time they want to. It's nowhere near as explicit as what they do in the West, but I've also noticed a pattern that a huge portion of the new manga and anime were a lot more chaste than those before 2013 (where you can easily get away with girls groping each other and wearing ridiculous micro bikinis on TV). Things like Frieren and LycoReco barely have any fanservice beyond rule 34 because why not.

>That's what they get for hiring ugly Earthlings with pooping buttholes. If only they hired superior ZAFT aliens that don't poop. Maybe they'd like fanservice more since ZAFT girls don't have stinky pooping buttholes unlike Earthling girls. En taro Athrun!

I'm enjoying Sousou no Frieren's manga more than the anime, and the view tends to be the opposite in my experience. I was aware of manga before it ever got popular, but popularity is almost always a curse with this genre. God forbid you talk about it on /a/.
I think its because I'm used to reading visual novels so I love slower paced story telling.
The Frieren manga is one of my favorites right now. I even like the emotionless face syndrome, which was softened significantly in the anime. To be fair to the anime, it probably would've looked odd if the characters never made facial expressions in animation, but they did a good job of keeping the expressions more subtle than a lot of other anime I've seen. It's been accused of becoming a battle shonen recently, which is a little frustrating to see given the number of chapters where the characters walk around and talk about things. God forbid we have an action packed arc.

Hayao Miyazaki says that the Japanese must not forget the war atrocities they have committed during the ceremony of the Ramon Magsaysay Awards in Manila.
The Japanese are never going to view it the same as the Germans, which is a shame since Imperial Japan was actually worse than Nazi Germany in many ways. I feel like it's only fair that they should face it like the Germans did, or like we Americans have to face Vietnam, but life is not fair.
