They were gimmick characters, fully developed with behavioral gimmicks but side characters who were not the MC. You can remember their names, faces and attitudes without reference which is pretty good indication that they were not flat.
I saw the shitty 3D adaptations, the 1997 and read the manga and the only one I more then half remember is Gaston (and I forgot his name). Most tabletop campaigns have better developed Obligatory Bartenders That Give You Your First Quest. They barely had origins before being recruited as goons and none of them aspirations that didn't involve riding the Griffith train until they were well off enough to retire from mercing. They don't have character growth at all. Even Griffith being captured and torture raped for a year into proto-Femto didn't really change their characters much.

And that's all fine? I'd say they are exactly as developed as they need to be to pull off the Guts x Griffith conflict story. But they are all more flat then the current Guts Gang even if I'm like a decade or so into peak Serpico/Isidro fatigue.

@Skyline Bruh how the fuck we got 3 chapters left of Oshi No Ko, and we spent this entire week's chapter with half of it being fanservice with no substance at all and the other half being a filler Eulogy for a character without ever confirming if he's even dead.
We truly are in a golden age of shit endings in manga!

Probably, but not by much, specially when you consider all of the extra screen time they have compared to the band of the hawk. Serpico is literally an accessory for Farnesse. Isidro is a proper character, he just sticks out like a sore thumb in the setting. Schierke is probably the most developed one even if she was the last to join the party proper and really added to Farnesse not just being there. The more I talk and think about it, the more I think a rotating companion for Guts and cutting out chaff would have done wonders, since Berserk's a lot stronger at world building than setting up deep secondary characters.

Yes, if you ask me they're much better than the current party even if they have less screentime. I find Corkus's relationship with Guts far more interesting than anything the new party has going on. I think Gaston actually fits into the story and the dreams/regrets themes much better than Farnese "I have to become a witch!", or Serpico being a simp. Hell, Schierke got development, I don't think anyone can deny that, but even with all that development she strikes me as an incredibly flat character, I can't remember anything about her.

The main problem is one of tone. The previous companions were stereotypical almost by design (Pippin the Big Guy, Judeau the Second Best with a Crush, Corkus is a jerk, Gaston is the everyman) but they were grounded, believable as members of a mercenary band. We did care about them even if they were secondary, their role was clear and their narrative role (sacrifices) even clearer.

The "new party" has the problem of having to deal with the late Miura's growing boredom with dark fantasy. Isidoro is a shonen comedic relief that has essentially not grown since inception, he's a redundant character with Puck without any of the plot device uses of Puck.
Farnese and Serpico are mishandled: their introduction gives us a deeply troubled couple with a fairly interesting background, their arc kind of ends and they just.... stick around. They serve no purpose narratively or in the party, Farnese becoming a witch feels like an afterthought. Serpico flat-out drops any kind of relevance (does he wants to have a relationship with Farnese? What are his objectives in sticking around?) and is simply there.
Schierke is there because Miura wanted to draw naked underage tits&ass and needed a plot coupon to solve his new generic fantasy setups. I could argue that with all her screen time she has more depth than others but let's be serious, considering Miura's proclivities he just wanted a underage witch for the usual Japanese reasons.

All the others are boat chaff.

I see where you are coming from, but you might want to watch it again, because I can't say Judeau is "flat". It is left to the audience to infer many things about him and his knowledge, but the guy is deeply emotionally intelligent at the very least.
The Miura that was writing demons ravaging and destroying and raping is not the same Miura that was writing about going into uncharted seas and finding mermaids. Like if he went "wow, I was really edgy in my early years" and decided to dial it back. It also did the Song of Ice and Fire thing well before that piece of shit where "EVERYBODY CAN DIE! (but not really)", early Miura would have had Serpico die in a horribly traumatizing way saving Farnesse from something horrible, yet Serpico survived well beyond his arc and... hasn't had anything to do for like a decade, Farnesse became an apprentice, and Isisdro (who I'm amazed became a staple party member based on what tends to happen to people close to Guts) is a sort of comedy relief/innocence.
This is key to my reasoning of why Kentaro Miura's Berserk died with Kentaro Miura and why they shouldn't have tried to milk it more.

Even if Miura gave a play-by-play outline of the ENTIRE story of Berserk to his "friends" and publishers before he died (which I wouldn't believe anyway) - that doesn't account for how people change in day-to-day life. As Miura lived and had new life experiences we could see drastic changes to how the story would play out.

He did love the Idolmaster.

But Isidro & Serpico serve no purpose at all.
Isidro was written for Guts to lighten up, and not just keep shoving other people away. Without him, there would be literally no other characters involved and that would have made for a worse story.
Serpico is there as part of Fernese’s character development, being siblings and all, that Miura clearly was slow burning.

I am embracing the brainrot and watching My Deer Friend Nokotan.

Is this some kind of allegory for the kids in high school who volunteered to be tard wranglers?

Dude it fuckin' kills me.

My Hero Academia in particular. Call it naïve or whatever, but MHA was like a comfort series for me. It was a few seasons deep when I started watching it, and even later when I started reading it, but the silly optimism of the series typically kept me in a good mood.

So when we got an ending that gave us literally nothing, it just sucks. I'm holding out hope that next year Bones will give us a post-time skip movie just so we can get some of those loose ends tied up.

How are totally emotionless power levels appealing to you? Do you think Mahouka is good?
I have no idea what that is, but I feel like I should probably feel insulted.
Which website do I use to pirate anime now that Aniwave is gone? I've currently been using Aniwatchtv, but it drains my iPhone battery too fast and the loading speed is crap.
Anitaku.pe

The suckiness of MHAs ending was remarkable, and that's coming from a guy who dropped it a long time ago, around the time they introduced The Spiffing Brit as a villain. I at least expected it to meet the bare minimum to satisfy its audience of shonen fanboys (simpletons) but I was sadly mistaken.

Now is it me or did Uzamaki had a really great first impression and then suddenly became a motion comic.

The director and staff that made EP1, the only good episode, was only contracted to do one episode while some other team was set up to do the rest of the 3 episodes.

Now is it me
No, it's the entire internet. I remember seeing clips from the first episode and thinking ''holy shit, we are finally getting good Junji Ito adaptation'' and then episode 2 happened. I love his works and Uzumaki is my favourite (original, I know), but damn, he and Satoshi Mizukami are taking L's left and right when it comes to adaptations of their works.

I kept hearing people talk about how this was going to do everything Naruto did, but do it right and without blowing it or causing a bunch of past stories to be retconned into mush. Yeah that started being ruined once 2019 rolled around and gave Deku more fucking powers, and then again in 2021 when they did a whole bunch of other shit that really pissed me off.

Do they have tard schools, or do they just become hikikomori from the start?
There are special schools for those with special needs, but I think they're non-profit. There's been attempts over the years to raise awareness for kids with disabilities, just am not sure how effective they've been. If you want a good idea, go check out My Sister Momoko, which was funded/commissioned by either the government or one of these groups to help raise awareness. Honestly, despite it being glurge, the animation and voice-acting is pretty impressive coming from a cheap studio like Magic Bus.
