Yes, if you ask me they're much better than the current party even if they have less screentime.
The main problem is one of
tone. The previous companions were stereotypical almost by design (Pippin the Big Guy, Judeau the Second Best with a Crush, Corkus is a jerk, Gaston is the everyman) but they were
grounded, believable as members of a mercenary band. We did care about them even if they were secondary, their role was clear and their
narrative role (sacrifices) even clearer.
The "new party" has the problem of having to deal with the late Miura's growing boredom with dark fantasy. Isidoro is a shonen comedic relief that has essentially not grown since inception, he's a redundant character with Puck without any of the plot device uses of Puck.
Farnese and Serpico are mishandled: their introduction gives us a deeply troubled couple with a fairly interesting background, their arc kind of ends and they just....
stick around. They serve no purpose narratively or in the party, Farnese becoming a witch feels like an afterthought. Serpico flat-out drops any kind of relevance (does he wants to have a relationship with Farnese? What are his objectives in sticking around?) and is simply
there.
Schierke is there because Miura wanted to draw naked underage tits&ass and needed a plot coupon to solve his new generic fantasy setups. I could argue that with all her screen time she has more depth than others
but let's be serious, considering Miura's proclivities he just wanted a underage witch for the usual Japanese reasons.
All the others are boat chaff.
