It's the only shounen which feels like a gag manga which is great. Also traditionally drawn which is always a plus. I just find it a bit weird that a zoomer girl knows who Ken takakura is and finds him hot.
The gag manga feel is the best part. Yes it has a plot, at the same time it just does stuff on the fly. It only feels now that we're getting into the plot proper now, 168 chapters in lol.
I was really into it but completely forgot what the fuck was going on, I wish there was a recap
I feel that man. That's just rezero for you lol.

Hey I come from a time when Shounen meant Dragon Ball and JRPG shit
Dragon Ball
Bruh.

also early dragon ball was also a gag manga too

Hunter x Hunter is finally back after almost 2 years of Hiatus with chapter 401:

When I though Togashi had finally finished the set up and was going to start the conflict he comes out of hiatus and add even more complexity to the current arc with new important characters. It's no surprise he can't write anymore, only a crazy person can keep up with so much going on at the same time.

But tbh, I really enjoyed the new revelations, makes Beyond Netero a much more important character to the current arc. He had been pretty much irrelevant after all the set up in the very beginning, and I was just expecting him to be in the background until we got to the Dark Continent, but now he is one of the main players of the Succession Contest.

WSG still has Undead Unluck running and it still is more of a gag manga then a battle shonen but admittedly it's like 60/40 most days

After reading the DanDaDan
It's great, ain't it?
It does suffer from the "Will they, won't they" romance plot line that plagues many series, but it isn't that bad here.
I think people exagerate it. Every time a new character comes in everybody shits themselves screaming "harem!" When neither Momo nor Okarun show particular interest. Hell, it works as an engine to get the other one jealous and forces an advancement from that.

The romance is leagues beyond your standard battle shounen (which isn't saying much I admit, since they are abyssmal at it) and unlike other series, thete is real chemistr between Momo and Okarun.

The sideships is the part that is a lot less explored, Jiji and Aira certainly seem playful in the background (Jiji does still seem to have something for Momo, but Aira seems a lot less thirsty for Ken), I could see Rin being smitten by Zuma and best man Kinta has a solid chance with Vamola, but all of that is getting zero screentime and it's fine since it's not the focus of the series anyway.
I just find it a bit weird that a zoomer girl knows who Takakura Ken is
Well, her friends do consider her a weirdo for liking him. Granny could have just dropped her to watch Takakura films to shut her up while working and Momo just liked it. If you watch a lot of old cinema with your kid odds are they might like a Gary Grant type more than a faggy twink that is all the rage now.

One could argue we just finished the prologue.

I do like the serious moments too like the backstories. It's just surprisingly good with the comedy, slice of life, tragedy, action balancing act. Most series excel at a couple of those but half ass the others. And for a series that honestly feels like the author is making shit up on the fly as he goes, it's got surprisingly good world building. At least shit makes more sense here than the ninja villages ever did in Naruto.

My favorite backstop, on that point was the punk kid with the umbrella powers and the police man dad that adopted him. The story just kinda stopped the funny and went "I'm going to break your heart for the next few chapters." And it flowed brilliantly into the arc happening at the time! It's insane how many balls the story juggles yet doesn't drop any of them.

Christ, should just call it TextXText or write a novel... i tapped out of HxH two hiatus ago when it became a word salad that would be impossible to remember till the next batch of issues came. I'll keep ignoring it till it's finished and then reread the dark continent part again.

Undead Unluck is a series that managed to improve tenfold with it's timeskip when most series keel over and die when they do it. I like it very much but my understanding is it's selling like shit and the anime didn't give that big of a bump. I just hope it's allowed 16 more chapters to finish things up properly.

Watching Adult Swim's Uzumaki:
The first episode's animation quality was fantastic. The intricate rotoscoped detail really shines. Unfortunately since it's only four episodes it seems like it's trying to cram too much in too short of time, which makes the spooky reveals a lot lamer when not given enough buildup.
Second episode. The animation quality absolutely tanked. There's no more rotoscoping, it looks like a normal anime now (which wouldn't bother me usually) but the difference is so stark since there's so many still shots and static conversations. This also makes any scary scenes fall flat as well. Seems like all the money was blown on the first episode.
Unfortunately I don't even know if I want to watch it anymore since the only thing still going for it is the Colin Stetson music. Really sucks too because it could've finally been a good Junji Ito adaptation if it only covered 1 story an episode and kept the animation quality.

Well what a fucking letdown. I was dubious on it but had to admit the trailer looked great, but hearing this really deflates it.

I already see that Dandandan is getting the "ugh, this SHONENSHIT is for PERVERT GOONER PEDOS" treatment from some people, as well as the

"LOL stupid chuds think we're gonna be mad at this anime"> anime comes out> they get mad at it treatment.

It's become depressingly predictable.

I looked at 4chan to see what people were saying. Its so fucking tiresome. They're mad because its the "current thing". And its clear none of them read the manga. They're making assumptions on a story that is based on not having assumptions on anything, because its always changing. One honestly disgusting thing I noticed just browsing was them calling Momo a whore, simply because she had a BF in the first episode (that was made very clear she didn't put out for). Its like, the fuck? Also making fun of Ken/Okarakun because hes a nerd. Its like, that's kinda the point, its honestly satire because of how much action man shit he gets up to. I mean for fucks sake he turns into a demon thing!

Anno is making a new Yamato movie! Pretty exciting; hopefully the ship redesigns are as good as the redesigned Cyclone: https://mantan-web.jp/article/20241006dog00m200050000c.html
There's a contrast between media for children which is multilayered and media for children which is just for children.
Not really, kids' shows that are just for kids, such as Exkaiser or Raijin-oh (and to use gag anime examples, Patrol-kun and Hikarian), can be very good if the designs and action are good.

Tried watching Dan Da Dan but had to hard drop it after
that abduction scene. The Japanese at this point should just create a Rape God and make it their state religion. WTF is wrong with these people!?
That was bad enough but they lost me completely when both characters basically shout out their main core character motivations in the very first episode instead of just slowly revealing it mid/late in the show's running like a normal show. Only thing that was worth watching about it was the OP and the animation.

I mean, they're not wrong when this happens:

Battle shonen is oversexed poison, unless it's from the 60s or something or it's made for really, really young kids. Pass it on.

This. I decided years ago to just cut out all ShonenSLOP from my media diet in favor of Seinen and I couldn't be happier. I broke my rule due to how cool and stylistic this show looked and was immediately burned lol.
For me, any shows I watch VILL have a focus on futuristic vehicles and bases; cool vehicles can make anything good. It's sad that shonen is the face of anime because it unfairly portrays the rest of us as perverts; literally nobody would think of anime as pedo troonslop media if we just kept getting stuff like Grendizer, Yamato, GoLion, and Gatchaman like we did in the 70s and 80s.

Hot take, the ailen abduction shit was a parody of every 1950's ufo sighting and every kook they said they got abducted by aliens and got a probe up their ass. It's dark comedy. Parody if you will. Like half of Dandandan. Because it's a gag manga at heart.

When did that even happen anyway? There was none of that shit in the 90's and 00's, at least anything that made it to TV.

Arguably it started in the 70s with Cutey Honey, it persisted in the 80s with stuff like Urusei Yatsura, Ranma 1/2, Dr. Slump, and Dragon Ball, and it became what it is today in the 90s and 2000s as animation houses began to rely on selling body pillows and anime figurines to make their money. I'm surprised you don't think 2000s anime has pedophilia; RahXephon was unwatchable because of it. Even Pokemon has pedo moments. Meanwhile, you can watch a good 70s show like Steel Jeeg and not have to suffer through any weird sex stuff.
