Just wanted to post on here that for me, it will be 25 years since I saw this on a recorded VHS tape that one of my parents were kind enough to tape over when I was younger:

IMG_0448.jpeg IMG_0447.jpeg

This along with Spirited Away, The Animatrix, along with (ironically enough) Digimon: The Movie helped me appreciate the anime OVAs and movies from the 90’s and 80’s era.

Fast forward to today, I now find myself watching obscure anime films and those same OVAs that no one has ever heard or watched and nothing has changed ever since.

The reasons they hate Punpun is because he's male, isn't an attractive character (that we can see), and has a libido. If the character were a woman or attractive dude, all would be forgiven and even justified. Any trauma normal men go through means nothing to these people and they will do whatever they can to make it a bottom-up issue rather than a top-down one. That's why Aiko is made out to be an innocent angel who did absolutely nothing wrong except be with Punpun. Her trauma is more important than Punpun's in their eyes, despite the narrative making it clear that both are incredibly damaged, delusional, and horrible for each others well-being.
I think the real reason they hate Punpun is the reason they hate any decently written sadboi, in that they present the modern incel dilemma. Not the actual incel but the guy just fucked over by circumstances out of his control that eventually becomes misanthropic and disturbed.
The last thing the modern world wants to do is get involved in situations that involve children being hurt. Truth is this isn't even a western thing. Japan does it just as bad but at least half their media from the last 25 years has directly addressed the total apathy towards the recent generations and how it's created a generation of broken and aimless adults.
American media: Nope. Fuck you. Just smile and swallow.
Punpun is like the much more high functioning version of Chris Chan. Everyone will look at the end product and squirm but anyone who can put two-and-two together knows people don't just end up certain ways in a vacuum. But it's easier to think that way because you have no culpability in the end result.
These are the same faggots who will try to ruin people's lives over a random grooming allegation, but don't give a shit about a character who was raped when he was 14.

I know, no culture war bullshit, but cultural Marxism and postmodernism is a fucking menace to anyone with even a modicum of respect for the author, their intent, and their work
I fucking hate these people.
Any point a story has anymore isn't just obvious. No, it's all a secret 5D deconstruction that's supposed to send the most bleak, gaslighting message of all time.
Fight Club or Taxi Driver isn't about a guy growing tired of the facade of modern living and becoming the ubermensch and struggling with his humanity while wondering if that's even a thing worth saving anymore. No, you see it's about toxic masculinity and the men who kill pedophiles and bankers are ackshually the reverse role models.
It just is so weird seeing the absolute nihilist cynicism the majority of people in America have for anything that has even a remote amount of empathy.

This is a joke, right? Makes sense the more I read, right? It's only Mature because of aliens and not because of "LOLZ did you and teach have TEH SECKS yet???" stuff?

I'm not complaining, I'm just confused.
I don't particularly remember DDD being that fucked up... it was a weird as hell ride and I honestly enjoyed the ending ("Lets get retarded" was the story's anthem) but though definitely a Seinen, it didn't hit Pun Pun levels of raw.
But apparently for most people, Punpun is just a terrible person with no redeeming qualities who had no excuse or reasoning for why he ended up going into a downward spiral. There's not hundreds of pages showing in excruciating detail how he ended up the way he was. He's just satan and relating to any of his struggles is just a red flag and there's no such thing as moral ambiguity.
Speaking of! Fully agreed. The poor kid was too innocent for his own good but between deadbeat wifebeater dad, retarded self indulgent mom and his uncle and later aunt betraying him in differemt ways, he was utterly fucked from the outset. I do think the pegasus plotline took too much center stage, but the rest was a fascinating ride.
Shinji can't be a kid so psychologically fucked by factors outside his control that he makes awful decisions which reinforce his negative selfview. No, he's just a whiney bitch who should hate himself more.
No! Fuck him! He's a faggot!

I kid (not really). I am in the middle of watching evangelion and when he was moping during the farm arc, all of the disgust and hatred for Shinji came rushing back in. Thank god he left the bad funk and is actually being a bit more active now.

I totally get what Shinji represents, but there is something about him that makes me look at him with disgust while Pun Pun gets my pity. Probably because Shinji was developing an actual support network (though I will admit most of it wss brutally ripped from him), Pun Pun at most had his weird artsy fuck buddy and his just as broken crush.
It also works better than most other times the trope has been used because for all intents and purposes, Yor is functionally retarded.
I only read the manga but I'm still waiting for Yor to get something going outside of being retarded (and charming while being retarded). For any manga enjoyer, the flashback was a very nice little side story.
ANN had an absolutely embarrassing interview with the author of Dungeon Meshi. She shut down all the stupid dogshit takes and headcanon in the western fandom that popped up as the anime started airing.

Reading this and the other stuff posted about the interview, I'm loving this series more and more. Hope she has another serialization in her.

America doesn’t deserve to interview Japanese manga artists anymore after this shit.
Straight up embarrassed THE ENTIRE USA with fandom faggotry.

>“UURRR IS LAIOS A SUPER WHOLESOME AUTISTIC BOI????”
“No. He’s just a dumb guy”
>“SEEING SENSHI’S CLOTH COVERED BALLS IS CLEARLY A JAB AT SEEING SCARY BOOBS AND FANSERVICE!!!”
“It’s a joke about seeing an old man in his underwear in my life”
>“ FALIN AND MARCIELLE ARE TOTALLY LESBIANS RIGHT????.”
“No”

Rude. Just because she can't do elementary math as a grown woman doesn't make her retarded...

I suppose she is a bit slow...
The only reason you don't want to fuck Yor is that it will probably cost you a pelvis.

I fucking hate these people.

The bane of western anime fandom are online communities. Tvtropes And Tumblr made people believe that there is only one objective truth and it is very gay and deep. Everything is a fucking deconstruction because it sounds a lot more impressive than just playing on a trope. Everything is LGBT because none of the people there has normal human relationships.

On behalf of oldfags I apologize to the anime fandom. In spite of our best efforts to gatekeep weebs out of the fandom they just fled to tumblr, reddit and twitter instead and the cancer metastasized. Now we are all reaping the whirlwind.

The shit about "is Laios autistic?" is especially cringe because the Japanese basically do not and have never believed in western psychology and they especially don't believe in autism.

The Western anime fandom is just so deeply retarded, man. It's all fag shit and fanfics enforcing some ridiculous headcanon. Shippers by far being the worst: you cannot have a tender female relationship or a close male one without Western anime fans reading homoshit into it.

The reasons they hate Punpun is because he's male, isn't an attractive character (that we can see), and has a libido. I know, no culture war bullshit, but cultural Marxism and postmodernism is a fucking menace to anyone with even a modicum of respect for the author, their intent, and their work. Ryoko Kui makes an epic fantasy cooking manga, gives an interview, and they ask about how Senshi's bulge subverts fanservice expectations and how Marcille and Falin are totally lezzing out. It's deeply fucking embarrassing and makes me MATI.
>tfw anime properties will never get the "halo wars" treatment with spinoffs that have the utmost respect and reverence to the source material while adding in completely new original content that doesn't suck. RIP Ensemble, your efforts were not in vain.

I remember being upset it also wasn't available for pc when it first came out. Still enjoyed it, but I wish I could've zoomed in closer to see the units in more detail.

Its on PC now and better than ever. You can zoom in closer to see the detail on the units. Though the marines were the only ones that didn't age well.
Halo wars 2 was a proper sequel for it that added new unit types like artillery with a covenant campaign for it. Even if the UNSC unit art direction was confused between halo 4 in game and halo 2 anniversary in cutscenes.

Fortunately 343 forgot that halo legends was a thing. Had my hopes up for it when Disney announced that star wars anime a while ago.

Yeah, I enjoyed the Pegasus plotline, but it felt like extra scenes in a "director's cut" that the story could have done with a little less. I do like though that by Asano's own words, they're literally the actual reason the Earth was saved and had that meteor shower instead of being destroyed. Pegasus literally cucked Punpun and Aiko out of their wish for the world to end.

That's completely fair, and if everyone said that I'd respect their opinions. Yeah, while Shinji is a decent character, he's probably the worst representation of being the guy who can't relate to people, considering he has a literal harem of women that would ride him if he got slightly over his shit, he makes friends, and literally has a pasttime that involves saving millions of people every couple of weeks.
I know that's the point, that Shinji is socially retarded and can't believe his self worth. But I like sadbois having a little less raison d'etre than Shinji.
To me Satou (NHK), Okabe Rentarou and Subaru from Re:Zero are a more realistic depiction of the loser who's not really a loser idea in anime.
Shinji does have pretty much everything going for him at times but paints himself as this loser nobody cares about rather than admit he's actually rather popular and well liked.
Shinji is literally the white woman of anime.

I agree but the problem is everything they represent isn't deep (I know you know this but I'm assmad). It's just literal Maoism. Stories can have themes and points, but they're usually pretty direct if you're not retarded (tall order for the majority of them, I know).
The deepest thought they have is "Everything and everyone that is earnest is actually shit and there is no actual depth to the human condition because I've never experienced any strife."
Goodnight Punpun doesn't even really have a "point" in my opinion, but if there was one, I'd say it's just about how you can eventually become everything you hate about yourself, even if in the beginning that hate isn't justified at all.
But I never would think reading it that it's really just shitting on an abused boy while going in length to describe his entire life story.
... Once again, I hate these people.
If anyone wonders why the Nips still hate gaijin, remember what they're dealing with here.

I have seen Pokemon, Naruto, The Seven Deadly Sins, and now I am on One Piece. I am really enjoying what I am seeing so far and I find it somewhat amusing that literal globohomo is the villain.

No, it's not that the Japanese don't believe in autism. It's that all of Japan is literally autistic so they don't need to stigmatize normalcy.
I kid (kind of).
The truth is I think most anime characters could fall under some category of autism as we describe it here in the states (when in reality autism anymore is just having some semblance of abuse and not being niggercattle).
The difference is when they write characters with conditions, they don't have to literally spell it out because their media isn't aimed at pleasing demographics or patronizing their audience.
Could you imagine if the first meeting between L and Light went like this?

L: By the way, I'm L.
Light: ..... Ho shit, are you on the spectrum perhaps?1!
L: Oh my god, thank you for noticing. I try to conceal it but I need to stiple at least five times a day.
Light: Nah, it's all good bro. See, I have NPD. I also have this issue where I need to plan everything in my schedule like seven months in advance or I lose my mind. I think it's an OCD thing. It's fucking hard to know people have some weird problem with you when you just see the reality of the situation but I try my best to mask it to blend in with my peers. It's a learning process. We also need to just spend less time in our heads. Sometimes I go two minutes without responding to something someone said to me because I'm thinking of the perfect reply so I seem like I'm mute. It makes socialization a bitch, tbh.
L: Oh my pog! Did you say "mask"? I literally can't leave the house anymore because I hyper focus on cases and can go days without taking a shower. Sunlight is too sensory for me.
Light: I totes understand. We all have our own interests. I have a partner who just really loves apples for some reason and I FUCKING LOVE POTATO CHIPS AND EATING THEM! Btw, my girlfriend probably has borderline. You're in a safe place, my friend.
L: Dude, if only the world could allow people like us to talk about our conditions for five hours at a time instead of doing cool shit and letting our personalities speak for themselves, maybe the world wouldn't be such a bad place.
Light: Yeah, I see myself as an empath myself. That's why I kill people.

I really like the Tower of God season 2 opening. Awesome song and visuals that makes it better and more interesting than the generic anime opening. So far I'm enjoying the new season though it's a shame they don't have the protagonist go full Sasuke.

Besides the fact that the western definition of autism has become meaningless, simple writing techniques will make characters that act are weird enough to be considered autistic/social anxiety and when it comes to a comedy it's even more exaggerated. If you make more realistic muted characters they become less interesting.

Goodnight Punpun
That series is in the same category as Muv Luv that it sounds really cool but I'm too much of a pussy to watch the suffering.

Just wanted to post on here that for me, it will be 25 years since I saw this on a recorded VHS tape that one of my parents were kind enough to tape over when I was younger:
Burger King had a great promotional tie-in at the time. You'd get a gold-plated card inside of a Pokeball for a few bucks with the order of a meal:

LOL, was not expecting that one but can't deny it.

Good on you for having fun with the shounen batch. Just don't look too deep into the rabbit hole of anime... As for One Piece, it's a treasure of a series. It's still fucking shounen but it has managed to get me to stick with it for decades now.

Pretty much, we all now say somebody has the tism to mock them, doesn't really mean shit from a clinical standpoint. We are at a point where any level of social awkwardness is file as autism.
That series is in the same category as Muv Luv that it sounds really cool but I'm too much of a pussy to watch the suffering.
Definitely don't ready Pun Pun if you are having a bad time. Muv Luv I don't know anything about, mind giving me a summary?

the japanese language is very autistic
jigsaw-puzzle like, and subject object verb (yoda speak) structure
and the japanese people are incredibly repressed, which leads to their media have crazy and expressive shit you would think is autistic
of course, actual autists would take one look at the amount of context required for the language and promptly fuck off from how confusing it can be

>Halo infinite finally references legends, bringing my girl Daisy into it
>It's a fucking 20 dollar cosmetic bundle
I can't anymore

Muv Luv I don't know anything about, mind giving me a summary?
I don't really know how to summarize without some kind of spoiler, but...
The first game, Muv-Luv Extra is a romantic comedy VN that eventually makes a jarring turn when the romcom protagonist is placed into a world where humanity is barely holding the line using mecha against an alien invasion. All of the heroines are soldiers now, minus the lead heroine who is conspicuously missing. The sequel, Alternative, goes deeper into it. It's known for having some pretty brutal player punches and genuinely shocking scenes.
