Put in the new Kinnikuman. I like Undead Unluck myself. Give a good reason why you haven't seen any Gundam. Also, maybe consider watching Cyborg 009 [the 2001 show] or Android Kikaider the Animation for some action stuff.

Im thinking of watching Trigun (the original). dub or sub?
Dont. Read it.

Some pages are just too damn good

Even though I have to wait for Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to My Charms to come in 2025, this second trailer looks pretty cool. Plus, this character visual here:

IMG_0374.jpeg

It look simple, but Mona still looks okay. All I can hope for is not to be a disappointment, since I like the manga so far.

I prefer the dub slightly but that might be nostalgiafagging. Both are good.

I recently discovered watching the Mashle dub is hilarious. The sub wasn't nearly as entertaining. Mash's English VA just gives an extra something and the banter is too funny.

Recently watched Alya-chan, and to be fair in my opinion, it is just a generic slice-of-life romcom with some hints of Russki in it. I was turned away from the scene where Alya asks Kuze to wear her thighhigh for her and then kick him, pantyshots mainly the scenes where it just goes "typical animu baka hentai!!!" moments.
Otherwise, just plain romcom SoL with some hints of Russian in it. I would rather rewatch Re: Creators, Frieren, Fate/Stay Night DEEN/Ufotable, NGE, Slayers, Nokotan and other lists of anime I watched over ones that are simped by retards. Your thoughts?

I never got the appeal of watching someone, either in media or irl influencers, be crazy successful without earning it. It looks to me like some sort of self hatred rather than something to aspire to or imagine yourself to be as.

Outside of slice-of-life and perhaps a few other extremely grounded genres, every protagonist in media is crazy successful without earning it. There is that myth, that you can "earn" success, but it is, in fact, a myth, and I don't think any author capable of stringing together a coherent story can force himself to truly believe in it. Success, when we talk about people like protagonists of heroic stories, people who actually change the world and get ot be featured in history books, is built on four factors: inborn talent, self-discipline and hard work, powerful patronage, and sheer good luck (though in case of Christian-inspired stories - and in the real world, if you think that Chrisitan or any other worldview with providence/predestination is correct - the latter two can be merged together, because God is the best patron there is, and can easily arrange lucky breaks for you). Should any one of these factors be missing, you will never reach for the stars, and would have to be content with some measure of "ordinary" success, at best, no matter how hard you work, or if you also do all the right moves to secure the best patron you can in your circumstances. You can't just "earn" your way to the top.

This, of course, is doubly true for any world, where the rule of "four arms overpowering two" is explicitly untrue, and if you cannot match an antagonist in your own personal ability, you're fucked.

And triply true for the majority of stories involving the protagonist getting into another world, practically from the moment this literary device got any traction, long before the word "isekai" became a proper noun. Because the most common purpose for employing this device is giving the protagonist that good luck, mentioned above. By dropping him into an environment ideally suited for making whatever talents and good qualities he have flourish. Some authors find ways to make the protagonist's ordinary skills and knowledge become extraordinary and gamechanging in the new world. Some just give him a direct power boost. While the latter method is simpler to write, thus more attractive to hacks, the former is not inherently superior - Gate, for example, is still a wankfest, even though Japanese soldiers do not get new powers in the new world.

Now, of course, there is such a thing as showering your protagonist with so much gifts, to the point when the story becomes boring and predictable. Overlord outside of its sitcom parts is a total snoozefest, because Ainz starts as the most powerful person in the world, who, past one early episode, faces no challenges whatever. Re:Zero had promise but went to shit once it became clear that Subaru's true power is not his Return By Death, but his Nice Guy Aura that makes nearly every powerful and important female he meets fall for him. But well. Most everything is bad when used immoderately. Nowadays I find stories, which do not conceal from me how exactly gifted, lucky and well-connected their MCs are, more endearing than stories which do conceal that (like the majority of long-running battle shonens out there),

As a side note, the last few pages of this thread convinced me to try Mushoku Tensei. On the first glance, Rudeus seemed your usual pussy-sniffing betacuck, like most high-profile isekai protags, but apparently he's based enough to do what a man is supposed to do with his harem.

Opinion: Native Isekai is a real anime subgenre (archive)

I've never heard of this debate, but the author argues that "Native Isekai" (e.g. The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter) is Isekai with the usual OP cheat, gamification, and wish fulfillment elements but no reincarnation or past life remembrance, distinct from a purer "Fantasy" genre (e.g. Sousou no Frieren).

Never mind that most manga sites are going to include a Fantasy tag alongside every Isekai series, effectively making Isekai a subset of Fantasy.

Dude I thought Native Isekai was just /a/ bait used to piss off fans of Dungeon Meshi and Frieren. Obviously Native Isekai isn't a real fucking subgenre. It would just be called regular plain ass fantasy.

I also don't think Isekai SHOULD be a subset of fantasy. It's not fantasy's fault that 99% of most Isekai are so creatively bankrupt that they take place in plain, boring fantasy worlds as opposed to any other setting that they could take advantage of.

They should just call it what it is: Dragon Quest/MMO fanfiction.

The main reason writers get away with it in Japan is that they avoid using the bigger copyrights [none of their spells ever use anything Dragon Quest uses for a word and you can't trademark words like Fireball or Thunderbolt] but they still use and abuse the main structure of 'go to a Guild to get a Job and Rank and spend the rest of the story grinding until you reach Level 99 Double Platinum SSS'.

Meanwhile, the reason people started putting the word 'Isekai' on titles was to focus on the contrast between the home world of the protagonist and the new world. There isn't an appreciative difference between calling that Hidden Dungeon series 'non-isekai' and 'isekai' if it being an alternate world is barely relevant, or else we might as well say every RPG tabletop is 'native isekai' because they're about some place not called Earth.

Re:Zero had promise but went to shit once it became clear that Subaru's true power is not his Return By Death, but his Nice Guy Aura that makes nearly every powerful and important female he meets fall for him.
Rem and Emilia are the only love interests in the series.
That being said, him being possessed by Satella is a the biggest deal breaker imaginable so it makes sense that leading up to that, he gains trust.

Isekai really is the Dark Souls of anime.

I disagree. Just have a character go through enough shit to make it feel earned. The usual issue that anime like to focus on starting the journey, but can't help itself to cut corners to get to the parts where the protagonist gets all the rewards, while good media saves those to the ens of the journey.
