I can't really blame people. Not only is Watamote bad, it's "literally me" yuri.
As far as introspection into Japanese culture, there are much harsher, stylish ones.
Honestly I'm sick with anime otaku culture introspection because it's pointless. Holy shit, you get sucked into a subculture and waste your life in it? No one said that before! And of course it's unique to anime and not just about subculture, especially not the more popular ones.

In the end it's just otaku trying to act high and mighty over other otaku on the basic bitch idea of "touch grass", while no one on both sides is really changing himself for the better. And while Westerners think it's a grand social comment, it's the most easy scapegoat of Japanese social commentary (and in a lot of cases the reason for people not working is due to the boomers fucking up the economy, which makes it the same as "stop being a lazy millenial").

I'd rather watch anime on how awesome it is to be in that culture, at least those aren't trying to appear smart or wallow in self misery.

Can we talk about the meme culture in anime, specifically the western meme culture? Touch grass along with others are all but dead elsewhere, but anime keeps that shit alive somehow, mostly because Anitubers haven't seen a recent meme in a decade.

I don't even disagree with the sentiment of touching grass, but not everyone that watches anime is a otaku. In fact that is a increasing demographic. I'm kinda tired of stories about shut in NEETS. I honestly can't relate. I've been working as long as I've been a adult. The notion someone pays for every little thing in your existence is sickening.

Its why i like Fate. Shiro fucking works his ass off at multiple jobs, knows how to cook, mostly lives on his own, has a hair color other than black, and when life gets hard, he gets tough. THAT is a character I can relate, or at least aspire to. A NEETs life sounds like fucking hell.

NEETS are the result of service economy countries basically being shit for young people. That’s not a Japanese problem, it’s more that Japanese Nationalists weren’t laughed at for pointing out that the youth are unmotivated and they were falling below replacement rates.

I think globally the Japanese are the only developed nation that’s native female population that has a Total Fertility Rate of like 1.4. Native population, mind you, the US is below them if you don’t count immigrants and illegals.

I view the NEET shit in anime and manga as literally propaganda. It’s literally there to make young people feel like shit if they slip into a NEET lifestyle. NHK and Watamote are literally just about how shit it is and his being a normie is easy if you hide your power level. It’s fine to obsess about Dragon Quest or whatever, but having an actual life is important.

It’d be like if the Wire didn’t pull White Liberal shit and just hammered home that most gangsters are fucking losers. They live with their mother and Omar in reality is a pedophile drug addict.

Some of it I think is propaganda. But some of it straight up embraces it. Personally I hate both. I don't want to hear how bad or good NEETdom is in every show, I want to see charecters with actual lives.

Older shows and properties don't have that issue. I mentioned Fate. JoJos oddly enough is actually pretty solid in that department. Gundam too. I'm actually able to invest myself into these people's lives instead of some loser.

I don’t care for it, but it’s social messaging most of the time.

I hate NEET shit because it’s like crack to the Fantasy Genre. It ruined the genre for years. So much that Native Isekai is a term when it just means Fantasy manga. I hate it so fucking much.

It's ironic. Fantasy in the WEST, book sales wise, is doing FANTASTIC. Just in the east, it's taken the likes of something as powerful as Frieren to stick out from the Iseaki NEET slop. And I don't get why. If I was living in the east, I'd want to read about elves and magic shit that AREN'T telling me to 'have sex'. Fantasy is about the furthest escape from reality you can get. Iseaki just somehow got super popular

Japan has an obsession with Alice in Wonderland (not for it actually being a book that’s Carroll taking a piss on a lot of topics, but because the Disney animation and because a blond child) and they have the concept of being spirited away.

The Transmigrant thing is just combining the genres and making isekai. It’s basically just a power fantasy fanfic.

True, they do like their blondes.

Thats a Asian thing in general, power fantasy is big it feels like. Stuff mobile games letting you pay to win, they love it. Society must really make them feel small I guess

Pretty sure that's just used as a retarded insult in the west. Fantasy is doing just fine if you stop paying attention to only crunchyroll anime and read more manga.
People would rather complain about how Slime isekai made money rather than just read Magus of the Library or Touge Oni.
As for why isekai gets more adaptions, you can get away with basically rewriting isekai to be cheaper for adaptions while a well done fantasy manga takes much longer to make, it's a commitment.

Ditto, it doesn't help that the western equivalent of shut in NEETs are trannies on welfare using their parents money to enable not doing anything. While Japanese NEETs can be people who either went through horrific abuse, fucked up their lives in a way they can't repair it or snapped by the over-controlling system.

Like I said, if the people being NEET are not doing it because laziness then the criticism falls apart. While there of course be some people that take anime too far, it's a tiny minority that is over-exaggerated because it's an easy target. The end result of decades of denial over Japan's issues is people fantasizing about dying and getting reborn somewhere else.

I’d argue Japan has been the only country that hasn’t been in denial for the the past 40 years about the collapse of native populations and losing their identity with mass immigration. The media talks about them not having sex, but if you break down the numbers they’re doing better than most Western Countries. Germany is Korea-tier when you take away Muhammad.

Japanese NEETs are no different from Western NEETs. Muh mentals and Japanese healthcare are the same fucking thing. They are a product of people without purpose due to a shit economy and boomers, but it’s also a mindset. They’re the faggots who say “How does it affect YOU personally if I cut my cock off?” It’s a very bleak thing, but I’ll give the Japanese praise because they have been tackling NEETs as an issue for years. They’re trying to reintegrate incels and femcels rather than trooning them out (although Rahm Emmanuel is trying his hardest).

I wouldn't say that. Life hits hard sometimes no matter where you live. I know a few guys that are just stuck. Otherwise normal, just living at home. Life hasnt been very fair in the west for a while either. The trannies are just who you hear about.

I think some of its denial, but I think some of it is inaction. Japan doesn't exactly promote personal independence. Always the group over the one. Their issues are more fundamental than what's visible

Chibi Reviews has renigged on his pro translator stance because fucking ASMONGOLD commented on that one Dragon Maid scene :story:

Apparently, Genjitsu no Yohane-themed toilet paper, will be a thing:

But then again, unusual merch like TP isn't that out of left field, given that PreCure TP was also a thing too:

What I want to know, is how much anime-licensed TP would have sold for, during the height of the TP shortage during COVID.

I mean we all know that Null hates anime and there isn't really any reason to engage with him when he wanders in here to proselytize his hate towards anime and everyone who watches it, since he'll just get angry about it.

Anyhow, I was wondering if anybody else has been reading Taiga of Genesis? It is, more or less, about a group of anthropology students who get sent back in time to the Paleolithic, during a war between 'ancient humans' and Neanderthals. It's quite good and I'm wondering if anyone else has been reading it?

lol you don't like being told to better yourself and touch grass

One thing weird about modern anime is how powerscalers still try to pretend their logic makes sense.
for the love of god, two faggots punching each other half naked in JJK is not a literary masterpiece nor worthy of the time it takes to make a video essay
lol you don't like being told to better yourself and touch grass
it is pretty meaningless advice
like, just don't be poor
because what the fuck even is that "advice"

Full Metal Panic Family light novel comes January 19.

Sagara is looking to live a peaceful lives with his wife Kaname who owns several companies and assets through out the world, and his daughter Nami who is bad at reading the room, and his son Yasuto who is a computer genius. But alas, strange incidents and people will keep visiting this household.

- Sousuke: I still need a weapon. It's in the closet, just go get it.

- Nami: Dad, are you sure you have your usual carbine and grenade?

- Chidori: Ah, you're hiding them again! And you always said you don't need any weapons!

- Yasuto: Mom, the enemy is coming. You can complain later.

Nami - who boasts her father's fighting strength, and Yasuto - who inherits his mother's intellect, has joined the family. The word "peace" is no longer in their dictionary. Or so the story goes...

Started reading Sakamoto Days and it's pretty good. To be honest, after 20 chapters I'm enjoying it more than the first 20 chapters of JJK. I wanted to read more ongoing Shounen Jump series and that was my pick. I also have plans to start reading Blue Box or Akane-banashi, but maybe in 2 months after I'm free from exams and stuff.
