I first saw FLCL 20 years ago on Adult Swim. Never paid attention to Alt and Prog because they were so far off base, and after seeing them marathoned for the premier of Grunge, I have survivors guilt.

If you're not into One Piece yourself, it's actually a fun experience. If you are, you'll notice how shit it is in many aspects. Honestly, I'd say it's in the middle, but definitely very bad in some aspects. That said, those said aspects require you to be into One Piece, so any casual watching this won't mind it.
The shows creator did make an effort into stepping into the management to avoid it being an absolute laughingstock unlike the live action Cowboy Bebop.

I missed watching this bag eyed, anti-social girl and I’m proud to say that I’m going to be rewatching WataMote from the beginning tonight. If anything, I remember not finishing it the first time around and now I’m making up for that.

Plus, from what I remembered of watching it, the ending theme was both catchy and creative:

It's been ten years. We're never going to get a second season. *sigh*

It's a shame the manga went to shit. Went from relatable and miserable sort of a parody of slice of life anime and then just became yuri bait. Tomoko, without even really trying, has this large group of friends and a lesbian stalker that wants to fuck her. And the series just became about this drama between the side characters and Tomoko just sort of hangs in the background. It's been at least a year or so since I checked in, so maybe that's changed, but it's basically a different franchise than what made it popular in the first place. Just has to fish for yuri fans to stay afloat.

I'll be real with you, I appreciate the anime more than the manga for a lot of reasons, especially that it knew when to fucking end.

This is trash.

Wrong.

Does votoms feature mystic/ancient civilizations and a tropical setting?
Well, it does have an arc that's basically the Vietnam War with mechas thus taking place largely in a jungle but I'm not sure if I'd used 'tropical' to describe it. I think it has some sort of dead alien civilization that's hinted at throughout it.

I still enjoy the WataMote manga since I do enjoy the supporting cast, especially Yuri and Ucchi, but I will concede that the high school festival movie-making arc, which is only just now coming to an end, was stretched out for much too long, taking around two years from the chapter where Tomoko made the proposal to make the movie to the most recent chapter, showing the second half of the movie (but I'm still expecting one more chapter to tie up loose ends with the arc, since Yuri and Nemo probably want to talk to Tomoko about her getting cold feet about the "live" part of the presentation).

Admittedly, I think the movie arc would have finished a lot sooner if wasn't for the artist's persistent health problems which delayed many chapters or caused her to often only be able to put out half a chapter at a time.

We started watching Symphogear and are currently on season 3. I had heard covers of the songs before with the song linked below finally convincing me to try to show. The animation was rough season 1, but improves tremendously a long with the story. You can tell they kind of figured out what to do and I appreciate that every season is a tight 13 episodes. Chris is by far the best character, and I love all the Gundam references throughout the show. I was unsurprised to learn that the studio that made my favorite Macross season (Frontier) made this as well. I understand that it is essentially over at season 5, is there any OVA or movie worth watching after that? Hoping quality stays consistent past season 3.

Also my wife is convinced that its a lesbian show. I do not have experience with much anime besides Gundam. The characters just hold hands and say they are friends, is that enough for it to be lesbian?

Your wife is far more attentive than you. It is OVERWHELMINGLY a lesbian show. Admittedly, its not very in your face in season 1, but it becomes impossible to ignore in the later seasons. How bad is it? Chris is, ironically, the only major character who isn't a lesbian (though she's hinted at having been a child sex slave), as every other female character falls in love with one of the other female characters or is heavily implied to. There is a reason the show's fans nicknamed is "Symphogay".

I get that its implied. I am just surprised theres not been anything more then hand holding if they are in relationships with eachother. In season 2 it was just Hibiki and Miku, but S3 starts and its very clear Maria and Tsubasa are being set up as a pair. I just figured it would be more in your face with the other girls, but maybe thats just starting now where we are at.

Chris being molested as a kid was actually pretty dark and I am glad that has only been brought up season 1, no need to dig that shit up in my idol mecha girl show.

Symphogear is peak media, glad you're enjoying

Most people think S3/GX is the weakest season so if you enjoyed it then AXZ and XV should be treats.
Make sure to go back and watch the OVAs after each season, despite being little chibi comics they're 100% canon and have buildup to later seasons in. Keywords are useful too, lots of foreshadowing and techno jargon in there (the main villains of s5 are mentioned in S1's keywords, for instance). No movie yet, sadly.

As for the gayness, its pretty gay. Canon gay too, with one pairing

Noble Red was a blunder, that is all

Thanks for letting me know about the OVAs I will make sure to grab them after finishing S3 and catch up. Yeah its pretty good, I wouldnt call it great but its very easy to watch. The pacing feels goodbecause of the short seasons and the music has been excellant. I love the parts in Macross when the j pop kicks in during the fights and this is just an anime of that.
