I don't recall any "child porn" but the kids do get hurt and are constantly in danger. Ozen also makes that one boy dress up like a maid. Anyway, Check out Somali and the Forest Spirit or for something without the danger and Hakumei & Mikochi. The latter is a slice of life show.

Having read the manga, they honestly needed that 80 minute slam dunk to nail the prologue, because what comes next in Oshi no Ko is all gas no brakes. That and it made me happy it hit #1 on MAL for a time

That's literally nothing special anymore. Without fail, popular, hyped new anime always hit #1 when the first episode drops. It's the worst kind of astroturfing.

MAL'S rankings in general are just completely fucked, I don't bother with checking that out anymore because Zoomer/Alpha newcomer fans just drive me up the wall. Last I had checked, 75% of the top 100 most popular anime were from the 2010s and 2020s, and it's completely kimochi warui. It's probably worse now.

Yeah MAL's ratings are fucked and run entirely by hype, I'm expecting a mid-to-high 8 by the end of the season once all the hype dies out. I'm pleasantly surprised because based off the first PV, I wasn't very optimistic.

Most of the zoomers go on AniList because it didn't take 15 years for it to get a dark mode, also the UI is more standard with other websites (along with the API not being hot dogshit, like come the fuck on MAL API I can't use it to search for anything properly). It's funny because the scores on AniList are way less inflated than MAL when its usually the other way around. Oshi no Ko is only 4th place with a 90% rating as opposed to the like 94% rating it has on MAL. The top is still all popular shit from the last 10 years plus the usuals (Gintama, S;G, LOGH, and FMAB).

If you want something in that exact vibe and are willing to read a book Made in Abyss is literally just the chinese child porn cartoon version of Roadside Picnic (russian book the Stalker games and about 80 other slav franchises are spawned from)

IIRC, Somali's mangaka got severely ill & went on a hiatus. Great anime tho, which makes it sadder.

MAL is only good as a database, reviews and scores on their is practically useless.
Though I'm not sure which is the shittier list, MALs top 50 ranked by score or its top 50 ranked by popularity.

I just keep it around to remember what I've watched. Everything else on the site is based purely on emotion, and possibly some thumbs on the scales

I personally have more drive to watch everything in the top 50 by popularity (most of the titles are stuff that would've easily been watched by now anyway), but that's just barely with every passing season.
 
Resumed my reading of dragon ball super manga. Right now I am at Moro Arc.

Reading the full color version, it looks really good, it really helps in a series where the hair design and color dictates the form.

It id funny to see how some characters changed the colors in first series and super to align with the anime version.

What are some full colors editions that you guys like?
 
Finally got around to watching Girls Und Panzer Finale and it's really good. I thought the world cup was against universities rather than re-matches, but the fights until now (especially the re-match against the Japanese) were kino. The ova with the sneaking session was hilarious.
It's sad that the Russian team lost and hope the finale will be against the British since they already had a final fight against ze Germans and their bullshit super tanks
One negative I'd mention is that the main characters are less interesting because they pretty much had their character development in the original series, the opponents are more interesting because they try to innovate or have their own quirks.

Definitely interesting and worth a watch, but damn depressing if you watch it at the wrong time in your life or in the wrong mindset.

Finally finished Tomo-chan after getting swamped at work and forgetting about it for two damn weeks. It was a nice little SoL romance featuring a cute and busty red-haired tomboy best friend. The sound and visuals are pretty standard "modern animu" fair (uninteresting backgrounds, CGI cars everywhere etc.) so don't expect a 10/10 animu spectacle. The main pairing of Tomo and Jun is the draw, and the characters can have quite a bit of interesting nuance at times. I'd rank them higher than say Uzaki's pairings because even after 2 seasons Uzaki remains pretty basic (apart from her huge tits). Tomo-chan is a nice friend-to-girlfriend SoL animu with the usual genre antics throughout, a good little show. The series wraps up with a kiss and a romance firmly established. I'll take that over a cliffhanger and endless waiting for a 2nd season that will never come.
