Unless you have some massive media property like DBZ, there is no way creating your own soundtrack will be worth the lack of royalties. It's more likely a combination of not wanting to start multiple contracts where they can be fucked by fine print, as well as being afraid the original opening will drive away potential customers (ie, the same reason why some video games have an edgier cover in the USA version).The real reason is because they're bigger jews than you think they are. A big reason why soundtracks were changed is because the dub companies got royalties for using their music instead of the original Japanese score.
It's an anime I loved, but god damn the ending ruined a ton of good will.Gurren Lagann
